Fun adventure game with interesting mechanics!
Great submission with a lot of fun details, like the player character's smooth walking animation or being able to rocket jump with a pushing spell!
The only thing that I didn't like were the spell casting controls as they felt bit off at times (though it might be just me, it took me a while to get used to the way spells are aimed)
yea we had a bit of trouble getting the casting smoother. Thx for playing:)
Well, I certainly did blow myself up a lot!
Fun lil' game :) Did you all do all of the art yourselves?
Congrats!
thanks for playing! Yes We did all the art and music.
That's amazing! The buildings are especially nice.
I remember being genuinely shocked when I was chased down by a group of farmers. 馃槀
Pretty cool game! Liked the sound effects too. It took me a while to figure out that it was the effects of my spells (which i was spamming) that was killing me again and again. The health of the enemies were a little too much though, and the game is a bit too difficult. Great Work on the Jam!
Blowing myself in a huge explosion got a laugh out of me, it's a fun concept. I see the comments about how hard it is with keeping lives and health, and I'd say it probably would have been better to drop lives altogether. Accidently killing yourself trying out a new spell is part of the fun, and games that kill you in funny and unpredictable ways often have short resets.
that鈥檚 actually a really good point you have:) thx for playing!
i love the idea, especially killing the farmer pigs by accident since i deserved the farmers' rage. those pigs didnt deserve death! solid game, nice job!
Thanks for playing!
Really cool concept, the art is adorable and gorgeous (Some particle effects like smoke out of the chimneys, or leaves falling from trees/bushes would really make the world come alive !).
The animation with the wand is pretty cool, but I think it hinders on the gameplay experience, you can't aim backwards, or it doesn't even aim at all where you're pointing, due to it being mid animation (don't know if it's a bug or not). There is a small bug upon respawning where the character gets stuck in a pose, where you can't really aim anymore.
For a jam, the game is pretty hard, especially with no ways of getting health back, but otherwise it's a pretty fun game some interesting mechanics, that fit the theme really well, and could easily be expanded upon (have some spells interact with each other for combos for example, throw your fireballs further with wind or something).
Great polished entry over all, these are just thought I had while playing that I think could improve an already great game !
Thanks for the entry.
Those enemies are hard to kill
I wish I gained something for killing them
I like how I can use the wind spell to fly and make enemies to fly too
Having the speels damage me too when it鈥檚 at max power is an interesting concept, nice unexpected consequence
Very nice visuals. and the spells were fun to use! I did find the game to be a bit unforgiving though... there didn't seem to be a way to get more lives or health, so I wasn't able to beat it. Let me know if that is a mechanic and I just missed it.
Yea we were under a big time crunch for this submission and the levels were pushed back to the end, so we weren't able to test some of the last ones as much as we would have liked to. Our original plan was to make a whole new area after the farm that had healing, but thats how these things go lol. (Our team always makes it our goal to not over scope our time and we always do :)
I really loved the art, especially the houses
loved your game as well! I will play and leave a review asap :)
Really liked the spritework, the fireball and lightning spells looked great and felt great to cast. Good use of unintended consequences as well, caught me off guard a number of times. Cool game!
thanks for playing and the kind words :)
really hard game =D
Thanks for playing!
The spell mechanic in this game embodies the theme of the jam super strongly, so well done with that! I also found the spells to be a lot of fun in general, especially the wind one. I feel like the game punishes you a bit too harshly towards the end, as you don't regain lives, and if you make it really far you start right at the beginning. There were also some small glitches with the sounds where they would just keep playing even after I died and respawned, leading to some very loud consequences haha. Overall solid game, well done!
thank you for playing our game! Haha the sound was an area that I wish we had more time to work on. Im glad you enjoyed the spells.
Loved the art style and music .....also the sprite animations are cool! .... i felt the controls could be little better and also if it had to use only the keyboard to play the game (since its a 2D game), it would be much better. But overall nice game...had fun!
I very much enjoyed playing around with all the spells. I laughed so hard when I insta-killed myself with the first fireball I cast lol. The different consequences of the spells were a clever idea, and plays well into the theme and your lore! You managed to pack a lot of juice into it, and the music was great! I think the enemies could use some balancing since you are already fighting yourself, and it can be difficult to aim without a reticle or something. Great work overall!
Thanks for playing our game!
I really enjoyed the charm of the art style. And some of the effects were really cool. I thought it was a clever tie-in to the theme as well.
Some suggestions for improvement:
- Maybe it's just me but for the first couple of levels I didn't realize how much damage I was doing to myself with spells. Perhaps more clarity around when I'm taking damage would help.
- The night level was a little too dark. I couldn't see myself or enemies.
- It wasn't always easy to be precise with my spell casting direction. Maybe some subtle indication of that could help without being distracting.
- I may have missed it, but I wish there was some volume control because music / SFX were a bit loud for me.
Overall, I think it's a great entry and has a lot of cool stuff in a short amount of time. Great job!
Thanks for playing our game!
Haha I wish we had more time to flesh out the tutorial(and many other things- mostly playtesting). To clarify on aiming- the spells all follow mouse direction- except lightning, which actually strikes where your mouse is ( and random other spots depending on charge time.) Sound did end up being very loud XD. thanks for feedback and very much enjoyed your game as well!
Nice submission, especially for your first.
Liked the art and sound, especially the fireball blast.
The effects were pretty cool too.
The jumping portion of the game was very challenging, probably a little too difficult from a control perspective.
But overall it was a lot of fun.
Thanks for submitting hope you make more!
thanks for playing! I enjoyed your game as well!
Finished it. Liked the wind magic. Blasting yourself foward or upward and pushing enemies into spits of spikes is fun. The game fits the theme of the game pretty well with the explosions and lighting. Poor pigs. I think there was a massive spike in difficulty after the third level. It also required a few blind jumps. For other players make sure not to kill the second goblin in the first level of the game to prevent a game freeze.
Thanks for playing our game despite some bugs! I agree with you completely. The final levels were more rushed and less tested. I will play yours as soon as I can.
Game froze on me.
The image below is where it froze.
Yeah, we just noticed it and added a bug description to the game page. Thanks for the screenshot though. The bug is avoidable (see game page), and we hope you give it a second shot!
