What do you like about your game?
This is my first game that i ever made public, so its very near and dear to my heart. I really enjoy the story and sometimes the graphics can be very scary.

For sensitive people like me, it was rather unsettling. Got the jumpscare game over on phase 3 and I was afraid to get another jumpscare from there to the end.

But the VN was nice.

Fun little VN with a great story. I got attached to Portobello and  now I am gonna miss him.

Nice little story, I wish my narrative was this fleshed out xD sorry

Sharing his first creation is always a great accomplishment! Especially since  you succeeded on publishing during a game jam. It can be a hard time to accept being judged for his artistic work. But that's it, you are a new game dev! Congrats.

It's a good story at the end of the day, I think it's a heartfelt sweet narrative with some interesting body horror endings interspersed. Sometimes I feel like the choices telegraph one thing and then the player character just goes ballistic in another way, but it does circle around usually.

I love the art style, it is well-fitted to the story and writing. I know others have mentioned the length but I think its a perfectly fine length to iterate through- especially when using Ren'py features - which is why they exist for VNs.

For endings, I would put 1/X endings everytime you get one; just a thing I expect with ren'py games.

Great Release~ hope youre proud of your work.

Awesome work! Feels like a complete game) Got three endings.
One suggestion. Maybe you should add some typing sounds, during dialog.

A well-rounded story game you have made! I enjoyed the story a great deal.  It feels unnerving. I love the unexpected twists it takes. With the creature. And the little choices you can make. Good One!

Your Game Cool

Wow. Super creepy and cool! Reminded me a lot of the HP Lovecraft movies from the 80's. Like Re-Animator.

Very original. The ball of flesh is a deeply compelling character. It would make a fantastic short film if you 'flesh' it out a little. [see what I did there?]

Great job!

Nice history

Dude the jumpscare was something else!

I liked the story quite a bit, it was witty, and really used what little there was effectively. We had only one character to talk with, but it was an engaging arc. Right now I still  think the name "How to train your abomination" still fits.

Oddly cute visual novel. Gonna miss the ball of flesh Portobello.

This game made me sick but also I wanted more, it took me I loved how you got to pick at the end to look at the back or not, I looked and got jumped scared hard omg, I was not expecting such a jumpscare. the art is nuts I love it, it's scary.. the sounds just want to make me cry, it's good!

The game even has a save feature, and a fully working settings menu, and it's super clean.

Great little game and I enjoyed the story of how you find the monster on the table and over time you become kinder bonded/friends then all of a sudden you die, I loved it took the theme legitimately too.

Great little game I have fun playing it. you should 100% be proud of your game!

Favorite lines in no particular order:

  • "pOrToBeLLo"
  • "Can i see your speaking hole?"
  • "oH yUo mEaN mY gLoW uP"
  • "In the end, you ate the whole plate"

Humorous, touching, and surprisingly unnerving. I enjoyed exploring the evil routes just to see what would happen. >:) Seriously though you did a good job making Portobello both pitiable and repulsive, in a way that's kind of uncomfortable to think about. Like I'd like to think I would be a little nicer than the protag to a little flesh ball that started growing in my basement...but would I? Really? Would I be able to accept his bulging eyes and weird talkhole, or even his decision to name himself something so ridiculous? The part where he creates a mouth to conform to your idea of normalcy is even more heartbreaking than I realized. :_; Bridging that gap seems difficult if I honestly think about it, but he deserves it.  He deserves the world. I wish I could have let him see the sun.

For something put together in just two weeks I found unexpected depth and intimacy in it; I have mad respect for anyone who can pull that off. Phenomenal entry.

Hi, very cool game, it is very tense from the beginning. I have a mix of emotions at the moment, as I just died and got jumpscared for looking at the (supposed) butthole of a monster. Very good job, I got scared and had fun at the same moment :333

Good luck with it man! <3333

I do not like horror games. However, this one was funny enough and goofy enough to keep me playing to the one ending I got! I like how this game takes horror and doesn't try to scare you, more rather gross you out a little (but that's probably I was nice to Portobello, and this still counts, as If the other routes make it scarier, It's nice that a game has multiple 'scare' levels, which makes it more accessible!) The gameplay is of course a classic interactive story, but honestly in this context it really didn't need much more (although it could have been more interactive). The art was a nice balance of kinda gross but cartoony, making it easier for people who are more adverse to playing horror games (like me :)) The story was also interesting, keeping it interesting whilst having a decently unique story, which is always appreciated! Some things that were kinda missing were some sound effects for talking. Overall, this game is a well done, nicely accessible horror/comedy (as you said) that has a nice, unique twist on the genre. Nice work, maybe you could expand upon this in the future!

Portobello T.T
Great job! Loved the theme. Now we require a monster girl version XD

Submitted

Great story and very well presented - I enjoyed playing it.

I would've like a bit more gameplay in it personally, but as an interactive story it certainly does the trick!

I miss Portobello. Good stuff! I liked it, the only thing that could have been a nice addition would have been some dialogue sounds, but I bet that would have been quite difficult to make for a flesh ball
