Wow - great game!  This fondly reminds me of Montezuma's Revenge for the Commodore 64.  Loved it!

Developer

Thank you very much! The game was slightly inspired by Panama Joe (which was the name that Montezuma's Revenge was released under on the ZX Spectrum), as well as other classics of the era such as Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy and Auf Wiedersehen Monty.

It takes a while to load on my machine. The music is immediately fun, whimsical and delightful. The sound effects are perfect. Graphics are very on point for that old retro computer feel. Great to see that there is gamepad support. Background art is beautiful and level designs are well thought out. I can tell there was a lot of testing to get this right instead of just slapping something together like a lot of the others. Attention to detail throughout. This is brilliant. Amazing work!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind review! I truly appreciate it.
The issue with the loading speed of the game has been puzzling me for a while now. On my own system it takes anything between 3 - 10 seconds to load, using either Edge or Chrome. Several other players have reported anywhere from roughly the same loading times, up to 3 minutes. I have not been able to track down the actual cause of this.

Submitted(+1)

Not sure if this would be the culprit but are you using ogg format for the music? Switching from mp4 to ogg helped me cut the loading time on my game in half.

Developer

Thank you for that tip! Yes, I am using ogg music in the game. I'll definitely try out mp4 audio and see if that makes a change.

Submitted(+1)

I meant that I was using mp4 before and switched to ogg to shrink down the size

Developer

Ah ok, I understand. Sorry, lack of sleep short circuited my brain there for a bit lol.

I gotta play it again tomorrow

One of my favourite in this jam

Thank you so much! I'm glad that you enjoy it.

Wow, such a well made game. Dogging around the enemy's feels good, the music is great and the artwork is really well done. Really feels like you are playing an old retro game. Great work

Thank you so much for the kind words!

A fun platformer, you can tell this game is a contender for the win, the level of polish is great and it radiates old school and hardcore platformers.

Overall great job

Developer

Thank you so very much!

Really good and polished one, the level opening up in a maze like I really loved. Cool aestethic and music too

Developer

Thank you so much!

This one is definitely amazing.

This definitely doesn’t feel like it was made in only one week. This is one polished game.

Thank you for sharing.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!
Most of my time was spent on level design and getting the game as polished as possible, since the actual coding of the game mechanics were deceptively simple. All the enemies / hazards run off the same code, with variables that can be changed to change the look, speed and behavior of each one. The toughest part was in creating each room and keeping the game challenging, but not impossible to finish.

Your gameplay and level design are very fantastic. I can't stop playing the game. The sound is also good :)

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm very glad that you enjoy the game.

Really great 80s platformer, brought me back to very old 1Bit games vibe. Great job, btw my best score was 60 collected!

Developer

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Submitted(+1)

wow it's super polish! i really liked it! i can't manage to put all of the 100 orbs down, but the maps are great! also love the music!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!

This was super tough! I did eventually chicken out though, not feeling like I had a direction and getting a bit too frustrated making small mistakes and getting killed over and over. I am not very good at games. The visuals are really neat, and I think it's super classy with the room names and overall the aesthetic is really good. Great work!

Developer(+1)

I'm sorry to hear that the game was too tough, but thank you so much for your kind words!

A hardcore platformer challange that gives such a throw back to old games of this kind. grueling, yet well designed. My best run got me to 54/100 remaining. That being said all the rooms were well designed and communicate their intentions clearly to the player. The scale felt so vast! Unrelated, but really great cover art! All around great submission

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! As for the cover art, it was done by DarcTyde's resident digital artist, Pat Eade. I'm semi-okay at making pixel art sprites, but that man is a wizard at using Krita and a tablet.

I think this game is very successful in what it proposes, from the sharp gameplay to the almost-got-there difficulty, just as you would expect from games of this genre. Makes me want to play it more after the rating period. Also very suprised to see how complete it is. Good job!

Developer

Thank you very much! The entire idea when going into this was to make a complete game at a smaller scale, while still keeping it challenging and engaging. I'm very happy to see that I may have succeeded with that.

Submitted(+2)

You really nailed that 80s computer game aesthetic!

The gameplay is absolutely rock solid. While the platforming is extremely challenging, I never felt like the game screwed me over. I did a few runs, and after learning the patterns and taking my time, I would usually be able to pass a section. That being said, the best I was able to achieve was 34 orbs. However, I’m not a master at platforming games.

The music and art were great and felt very cohesive. This honestly feels like a complete game. I also loved the backstory and relation to the limitation. Having to return the orbs is great haha! I also appreciate the separate story button. Good for people like me who want to read and good so people can skip if they want.

Overall, really fantastic work on this!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words. It is very much appreciated.

Submitted(+1)

I couldn't get below 80-70 orbs, but I'm sure some hardcore gamers will be delighted :P

The controls are nice, but it's sometimes hard to judge the jumps.

Developer(+1)

Thank you. My apologies for the difficulty of the game. I've tried to make it much more beginner friendly than the games I drew inspiration from, but it seems that it's still a bit too tough.

Submitted(+1)

I really like the visual style, I will definitely try something similar in the following games

Developer

Thank you very much for that.

This is incredible! I love the music.
