I really lliked it!

Developer(+1)

thanks army! Glad you liked our game

I really liked how atmospheric it was, even with the cartoonish graphics - although that might just be my own fear of the deep ocean. I don't know if it was intended to be at all spooky, but I definitely got a bit creeped out as I went deeper, especially at one point when I tried to rise, and realized that there was a ceiling and escape from the depths wouldn't be as simple as "go up".

Developer

So you went very deep in the ocean :), we realize that for a lot of people deep ocean is scary, for us is fascinating and intriguin, we wanted to create the atmosphere of  the unknow whatever that means to everyone :) glad You noticed the small details we worked to create it thanks for your comment!

I really liked how you had a bit of variety in the mini games. Aside from just the memory game, there was also the one on holding down the arrows. I enjoyed the sound design overall. Definitely got the submarine vibe with the gentle beeping rhythm of the background. Felt like I was under the sea with the muted music. I did feel the mini game sounds were a little jarring and loud when contrasted with the soft ambient music so maybe there is some sound balancing that could be done to make the effect noises not too jarring. One little quality of life thing is that when the same symbol is shown for the memory pattern, I could only tell it was the same symbol because the sound beeped twice. If someone is hard of hearing or playing without the sound, I think it would be hard to play the memory game because of that. I think a visual indicator would be nice at that point. I loved how large the map seemed. It really felt like a deep ocean that I could go exploring in. It was nice after periods of what seemed like emptiness to suddenly start seeing the glowing fish. Wonderful mood shift as you get deeper and deeper into the ocean and how the areas started getting darker. There's some really nice ambience there! Really cool to see the neon theme used underwater rather than in a cityscape. Nice work on your submission!

Thanks a lot for the very detailed description of what you saw in our game, this kind of stuff really makes us smile and feel that we have a good idea here worth expanding, thanks alot also for all the feedback,  we definitely need to adjust the minigame sounds better, and about when the same symbols is shown twice you are totally right we need to make it more evident visually that will make it more inclusive we are 100% doing that part, thanks a lot for all your feedback and kind words!

It´s a great game!  I enjoy to play a lot !

Developer

Thanks a lot Roberto! we are glad you like it!

For starters i liked the ambient music! it gave me a calm feeling. Telling me that there is no rush to do anything.

I did though think that to capture these creatures was a bit tedious, or not tedious but maybe too many steps before you get them.

I liked the sound memorization part and the press directions in the correct order part! But maybe use them separately as their own parts beofre capturing the creature? and not to combine all of them in one capture..maybe use the directional things for one type of creature and the sound part another or something. And also the sound effects are tad too loud! :)

Other than that i liked the depth, athmosphere and the exploration in general. And nice graphics too! :) really cool!  A relaxing game!

Developer

Thanks for you feedback we planned to add more kind of minigames to capture the creatures so maybe we can have a better balance between them, we are glad that you liked the atmosphere was the thing that we worked the most, thanks a lot for your review!

Beautiful game! I loved the puzzles, they can create really pretty melodies.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much Coumarin, we really love that you've notice that the bioluminescent patrons can produce melodies as well. We really appreciate your commentary, glad you liked it!

Excellent use of the neon theme. It got a little scary going that deep, and I like how the colors changed.  Great mood for the music too.  Excellent work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your kind words! glad you enjoyed the mood :)

subnautica is amazing! and yes! we were planning to add some action bits but it was hard because of the time constrains, thanks a lot for all the feedback we will continue to work on this game we had so much fun doing it and we love the concept!

about the patters we realize that some of the patterns were making the puzzles harder than expected also the speed of the puzzles need adjustment, thank you for playing our game and taking the time to write a review!

thanks a lot for the feedback we are glad that you like it! about your comments

1. Yeah we decided to block the fullscreen because the UI implementation were part of the last bits of the jam and we didnt have chance to test it fully, we were afraid of messing up the ui controls with change of resolution or screen size, but of course we want to implement full screen

2-4. It has an ending is not a boss, but when you catch all the creatures an open the species catalogue you could see the endgame credits, of course that we wanted to add more stuff like bosses enemies and other stuff, but the time constrains limited us, the original plan for the jam was 20+ creatures, a big  boss reveal at the end, and of course we will consider more minigames too, thanks a lot for the feedback!

This was an interesting game. It had a surprising amount of depth into it (haha). I like the sense of exploration in a way that you don't know what's ahead of you as you venture further down. The gameplay was fine but could've used some refinement.

Some tips:

  • Give the user time to stop and read instructions. The starting screen about controls automatically goes away in a few seconds so the first time I had to exit the game and come back to it. The same issue comes across in the mini-game about memorizing patterns. On first time I was just looking at the patterns thinking what is this, and only after realized it was a memory game.
  • The memory game had 2 similar shaped symbols (the big and little 'O'). Be vary of doing something like this.
  • The goal of the game isn't obvious. At first I was trying to catch fish, but couldn't. Then I was trying to catch the glowy things but ended up chasing them as they all swam away. Only at some point I noticed the separate lure button.
  • After the memorization mini-game you had to go towards the target. I didn't get this at all. Was it another mini-game? I pressed towards the creature but the vessel didn't move. In the end the mini-game stopped and I had caught the creature. I don't know what happened.

All in all great job for a game jam. I see you ended up submitting 4 minutes before the deadline haha. So maybe you just didn't have time to refine some of the things.

Developer

Wow we love this kind of feedback thank you very much for all of this, this exactly the kind of stuff that makes you keep developing the games, about your recomendations:

First: yeah that screen was added post jam, I didnt wanted to affect to much the original build it felt unfair to update the game, we added because a lot of the comments where about we didnt have any tutorial or something, the change between the 2 miningames is rushed you are right we need to add more visual feedback and a little to let the player notice that is another stage

Second: yeah we noticed the O symbols was a mistake we are going to rework the patter to make them fit more in general with the memory idea and make them different enough

Third: you are totally right about this we didnt added anything in the game to know what to do, we added some info to the game pange an a trailer of how to catch creatures, but you are totally right about this

Forth: yeah it was another minigame when you need to use press the highlighted arrows to get "closer" to the fish and collect it

Yeah we were on stresss in the last minute, it was a miracle that we were able to upload a playable build, thanks alot for all the feedback is very helpful and we will keep working o this game we really like the process of making it and we see potential in the idea!

Passed. Cool, calm, meditative game! I really enjoyed diving, searching, I love these games.

The only thing I had (at some point when fishing) "broke" the driving part near the bathyscaphe, it worked the other way around (it closed for collection, opened for swimming). And I would like to be able to "look around", ie move the camera back to see more space.

I hope the project will develop, with me subscription and expectation. Good luck with development =)

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the experience, yeah we detected a bug with the capsule, it doesnt affect the mechanics just the animation, thanks for the feedback and yeah we are really happy with the idea and I think we are going to keep developing adding more content and polishing all the systems!

(+1)

The theme, visuals and music are good, rewards are missing, there is no sense of fulfillment while catching the creatures. It's hard to play for a long time due that. Overall is a good concept for a game.

Developer

thanks a lot for your feedback helpfulnerd we will work on future updates to add more rewards, creatures and things to do :D

Aw, really cute graphics!

Developer

Thanks!! We're glad you've liked the graphics!

It took me a second to realize there was a 'lure creature' button at the top when I got close to the underwater life! haha. I kept chasing them like "WTF!?". Really fun! I enjoyed exploring. At first it seemed overwhelming like I might get lost, but I just stuck to the sand and was fine. Great stuff! Awesome work!! :D

Developer(+1)

Glad you had a good time with our game is really heartwaming reading comments like this!  and yeah we need to explain our mechanics better!

Submitted(+1)

I must say, the strange sounds, unique style of graphics and disappearing anglerfish (?) all made this a strangely creepy experience. That's not bad, but probably not your intention. Either way, the gameplay appears to be just swimming deeper and deeper, and I wasn't able to capture any fish at all because they were too fast. Is there something I'm missing? I feel like you could explain the controls and the goal of the game better. Aside from that, I'll probably be the first to admit that slowly moving downwards by holding down a button isn't exactly riveting gameplay. I know I'm not supposed to be negative or discouraging, but seriosuly, fighting off my boredom was hard. The concept of a game is far less important than its execution and the fun you have with it. If you made the ship move faster, make it less floaty, increase the abundance of fish, make more gameplay, I expect people would give it higher ratings.

Developer

You are totally right, we are missing an ingame tutorial, we added a video to the game page of how to catch a jellyfish to explain the mechanics you can see it here

thanks for all your feedback is not discoraging at all, I think the most important thing missing for us was a good tutorial and more variety of creatures, the catching minigames are the things that breaks the etherna boredome of just swimming around, we plan to  keep working on the game adding content and more mechanics, thanks a lot for all the feedback is really appreciated!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

It has always been fun to play games where you have to explore something. It is a pity that there are not  many varieties of creatures.

Also when I tried to catch the last mob (worm) I failed (my memorizing skill isn't so good at far ^^) and when I came back I couldn't control the submarine and there was no light at all.

Nice work anyway!

Developer(+1)

the worm is pretty hard to catch we also had a hard time remembering the patterns ourself, is pretty nice to see that someone get that far, we were aiming for +20 creatures but the time constrains of the jam were too much, and we just wanted to have most of the system working, about the dissapering light we have been reported some bugs when you come back after the minigames, you were probably to close to the "land" thats were this bug happens, thanks a lot of for the feedback, we will iron all those bugs and of course we are going to add more creatures!

Submitted(+1)

I have a deep sea fascination, so this was pretty neat!!

glad you like it!
