Really pretty game with great feedback when interacting with things. I found it -really- difficult, lol. I never felt like there were enough jumps (and there were times when the entire screen near me felt too empty for me to properly get anywhere), but maybe I'm just bad at the game, hahaha. Overall great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah I have the difficulty ramped up pretty high. The highest score I've been able to get (as the developer) was 1600 and that was with a lot of luck. haha. It certainly needs some tuning! haha

Everything is about Design and Visuals in it - and about much agility.   Very artistic from the 1st second to the last. It took some time to figure out that activating all on-screen functions & menus are bound to our little "feathered ball" :-) No much time to rest...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! It definitely needs a proper tutorial! haha

Submitted(+1)

Super fun to play, super clean visual/audio design! Tuning on jump hight, game speed and resource management landed on a really good spot too. Great job on that one.

To give some useful construcive feedback: I felt a bit disapointed about how little my final score was celebrated, especially if I made a new personal best. If you're planning on doing a post-jam version, milestone goals to work towards would be a great addition. I really like the idea of blocks giving more points based on hight to reward risk-taking. A combo-system would be a great addition to the score maths imo.

I did feel like there is kind of a thematic disconnect between rabbit jumping around and "slashing"?  Maybe I'm just overthinking it though, it's an arcade-style game after all.

As for the actual gameplay, the purple pickup might as well be an insta-kill. Making all boxes purple is almost impossible to recover from as far as I could tell. Apart from that its tuned very well and really isn't missing much polish.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the awesome feedback! I like a lot of these ideas! :D

Not sure how in-depth I might go post-jam. Still haven't decided if I want to even really pursue it post-jam or just use it as more of a learning experience. Personally, it was more of a hail-mary last-minute idea that I threw together in a little over half a day total (started it when the submission due dates started).

If I do decide to pursue it though I will absolutely take your advice into consideration! Thanks so much for the response and critique! :D

Damn, I wouldn't have guessed. The game seems very clean for being put together in such a short timeframe (considering there were no rules against starting to work on your game way ahead of the actual jam, which is really odd btw).  Music was pre-existing though, was it? Sounds really good

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Nope. Everything from scratch except the input system, some scripts, and a few sounds. I composed the music myself. (Music was my #1 well before games. Haha)

Thanks for the kind words! I had started on another project with a friend 2 weeks before the jam submission dates but it fell through due to life so I just quickly slapped this together so I could at least say I entered. Haha.

Edit: I forgot, I did use a loop I had on my computer for the lead sound in the music (royalty-free commercial use).  Everything else though was all me. :P

So much polish on this one. The game feel is just peeeeerfect.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun and super polished! This game looks really good with the theme and it plays really well! My only negative is that the game needed a tutorial but the game was really easy to pick up.

Developer

yeah, it definitely needs one. Just ran out of time. Haha. Thanks for the feedback! :D

Jaw dropping high quality game! The presentation is very professional! Everything graphical in this game is very well designed and just in the right place. Working on gamepad is another big merit. Congratulations on accomplishing all this! Regarding gameplay, I've two suggestions:

  1. The beginning of the game could be easier. So the players could get used to the mechanics and feel more confident overtime as they play. I'd advise not to punish the players too hard in their first steps;
  2. The bar's depletion (life bar, maybe?) is too high. If the player jumps, the depletion could be smaller. Because a lot of times that I was playing, when I was getting into the groove, start to feeling the flow and almost reaching nirvana... I lost. Of course, practice can get me there. But a little help is welcome!

It's all I have to say. A brilliant well polished game! Good job!

Developer(+1)

oh wow thanks! Yeah, I probably shouldn't have used a bar. Basically it's a 'jump meter's. Essentially you get 4 jumps. Everytime you touch a cyan block it replenishes 1 jump, and everytime you hit a red block it depletes 1 jump.

A tutorial is definitely in need. I didn't have the time to make a proper one. :(

Thanks so much for the feedback! :D

This game felt confusing and difficult at first, but was much more enjoyable once I got the hang of how it works (Took me a bit to figure out that purple = bad). I think the jump meter was a little too strict, and the transition from menu to gameplay was a cool concept but it just didn’t work for me. The movement felt really smooth though, and it looked fantastic visually. It is really well polished, and I think it’s definitely a cool groundwork that’s worth building from. Really good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the menu was a pretty last minute thing as I was running out of time. Also didn't have time for a proper tutorial so I just went with "menu+trial and error = tutorial". Haha.

Submitted(+1)

That was lots of fun! One minor thing, I liked the gameplay-as-menu, but when I crashed into the start button I'd often die immediately after as gravity suddenly changed and I didn't time the first just right. It might be better to reset the rabbit's position on game start, or at least reset it's velocity. I also would have loved a quick restart instead of returning to the menu.

Developer

thanks! Yeah, the menu was quite last minute and definitely needs room for improvement. Thanks so much! :D

Submitted(+1)

Amazing job dude! Flip the screen and we have a great mobile game ready to ship. Also, it feels that there is room to add tons of other objects that behave differently. Soundtrack and visuals absolutely nailed the theme of this jam.

Developer

Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed it! :D

Submitted(+1)

The Web version doesn't work properly. This might be helpful, it certainly was for me.

I don't really have much else to say. Some more visual effects would be nice, like some bloom or ripple waves or a more interesting background. Maybe some explanation of the game in the game. I liked the interactive menu, obviously. A pretty tough game, though.

Developer (1 edit)

yeah, html5 is spotty. There is a downloadable EXE if that helps any. :p thanks for the feedback!

Edit: thanks for the link! I will definitely work this in!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, I had to download it to play it. I spent pretty much the last 2 hours debugging my HTML build...

Developer

yeah, just got to check the link out. Thanks! I will definitely work that in. Html5 is pretty hit or Mis with GM. Originally wasn't even planning to do html5 but changed my mind. :p thanks again!

(+2)

This was very creative and smooth controls. A little too hard for me, but still fun. :)

(+1)

Good game! - Hard to figure out what to do initially, but once I did, I had fun! - smooth and playable...

Submitted(+2)

A Super-Duper well-polished game, and it's really unique too. It's just really hard, and with little to no in-game explanation, it was hard to understand at first. For a while, I couldn't even get the game to play because It hadn't occurred to me to move the player onto the play button. I also struggled to get games going, because sometimes I was just screwed and fell immediately. But the music, gameplay, and art all kept me playing, so nice job.

Developer(+1)

thanks for the feedback. Yeah the menu pseudo-tutorial was more of a last minute 'I need something to teach people how the game works'. Haha. It is far from perfect! If I expand it I will definitely do something more cohesive and less 'figure it out'. Haha. Thanks for playing! :)

Submitted(+1)

yeaah this game is hard. too hard. but super fun :D

Developer

Thanks! yeah...I might have put the difficulty too high... haha.

Submitted(+2)

is hard, but is one those game that it doesnt matter how hard it is... it makes me want to keep playing and playing until I get better, the real unforgiving part for me was the bar deppleting down too fast the game it self is perfect for me as it is, probably the most fun I had with any game in the jam so far, amazing job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words!! Yeah I probably should have done something other than a Bar. Basically, it s a 'jump meter'. You get 4 jumps that deplete every time you, well, jump. haha. Hitting cyan blocks replenish your jumps and red ones diminish them. Also, orange carrots completely fill your jump meter.I'm glad you had fun! I tried to aim for 'Difficult but fair'. :D

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! Very good presentation. However the gravity is unforgiving! I think I'm not supposed to hit the red blocks but I'm not sure I could figure out all the rules correctly.

Developer(+1)
  • Anything Red : Bad
  • Anything Cyan / Green : Good
  • Orange Carrot : Good
  • Don't let the jump meter run out at the top (or you won't be able to jump anymore)

And yeah, I wanted it to be difficult but I think I made it a bit too difficult. haha. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! I Love the Main Menu Idea and the Over Whole Concept! It Was Hard at First but I Figured Out the Game Pretty Quickly, Such a Catchy Game!

Developer

Thanks so much!! Yeah I will definitely need to tweak the difficulty! haha.

Submitted(+1)

It's quite difficult - but fun to play once you get hang of the controls! I love the visual effects, especially the neat little holes in the background which seem to reveal a whole world of particles beneath. I also like the inclusion of a cute character but abstracted into the neon style - something I also tried to do in my game. You definitely pulled it off! nice work.

Developer

Wow thanks! That means so much!! Yeah I really wanted to do the 'celeste' space blocks. And the rabbit turned out better than I thought. It was originally just 3 pixels ( a nose with two below it) but I thought, well just go for the x and it fit much better. I did notice you guys little rocketship! At first I didn't realize it was a little character until It blinked! haha. So Cute!

Anywho, thanks so much!! :D

Submitted(+1)

I played this game over and over and over again!!!  Not sure if I played well (highest score was just 308) but I enjoyed every single round!  I think the game would benefit if there was more health but other than that, a solid entry!  Or maybe you can add a power up that rains cyan block all over, something like the cyan parachute but better :)

Also, wow, this game looks, sound and feels amazing!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

haha thanks! That means a lot!! Yeah the difficulty is pretty high currently I definitely need to balance it better. I like the block idea! I was thinking of doing a cannon that spins around and blasts blocks out pretty fast but I ran out of time. There was so much more I could have added but owell, it's a jam. :p glad you liked it!! :)

Edit: and also 300 is pretty good! I average between 500-600 and I made the thing! Haha. My highest has been 1600 now but I got lucky with RNG and some really close calls! Haha

Submitted(+1)

Woah, this is addicting!! Challenging too! A lot of good ideas and mechanics here. I like how the title screen doubles as a tutorial practice room that makes sure you know how to control it before you can start the game. The slow down blocks were really cool too!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Funny enough, the title screen tutorial idea was a last minute thought. I originally wanted to so a full on tutorial but had to re-scope and figured 'welp, if they learn to hit the play button they know how the game works'. Haha. Guess I'll keep it but with some adjustments. :p

Thanks so much for playing!!

Submitted(+1)

One of the best parts of making games is those unexpected ideas that happen in the moment or on accident. What you did is brilliant, you should totally keep it :D
