Cool game! I really like the fake 3d arystyle! I was quite surprised to see the undo button actually working, which is a nice touch for a puzzle game like this!

Cute artstyle!

Hey, it' me again.

You have done so much since I played the beta version on Sunday. It's amazing that this was developed by one person. I love this art style.

I think the weakest point of the game is the interpretation of the theme. I believe you could integrate "side-effect" to the gameplay, similar to LinkSider. For example, when the cake passes on a special belt tile it will create new entities on the side or remove/modify the tiles on the side.

Some background music could add a lot to the experience.

Maybe I should have abandoned my game and accept your offer to design levels for this game. I could also create music. We would have 1 great game instead of 2 good games :D

Hi again! Thank you (again) for playing my game (again)!

Agreed, the link to side effects is a bit weak… I think the linked blocks moving in sync definitely counts as a side effect, but I only have one level with them.

And yea, I wish I had some more time to add the music. I had some ideas, but no time.

Haha, I’m glad you didn’t abandon your game tho… Side Vein Effect ended up being quite nice!

Cool, nicely presented puzzle game! Particularly enjoyed the penultimate level. I wasn't sure about the link with the theme, but it sounds like you had more planned for the puzzle mechanics from the other comments.

Really nice, I was hoping for more puzzles with the synced blocks.
I really appreciate there's an undo - that's quite rare for jam games.

I'm getting  a slight uncanny valley feel from this. Not sure why, maybe I'm secretly a duck...
I really like the tweening of the duck, the only thing there is a rotation, but theat might have been skipped cause the shadows are baked?

Thanks! Yeah the limited level number is mostly due to time limitations and my lack of level design skills lol. I did want to have a few more with the synced blocks, and especially some where the various mechanics are combined.

I’m getting a slight uncanny valley feel from this.

Ah! That might be cos the 3D is fake. It’s entirely image assets & tiles rendered in Blender. (Well there is the Z axis for layering but still, pretty fake). That simplified a lot of things (like combining the wall shapes, and having nice SSS) but it does come with limitations.

I suppose in theory it could be possible to render a 360-degree rotation animation and play it back to rotate the duck, but I just didn’t get to sprite animations.

maybe I’m secretly a duck

You’re already a secret pocket cat, how can you be both?

Maybe I just want to think I'm a pocket kitty to overlook the fact I'm actual a ducky. Who saw this one coming? Not me...

I might be a bit sleep deprived from the jam.

I think this was a very well done puzzle game with a lovely intro. The puzzles are good, though I'm not a substantial connoisseur of puzzle games. The main recommendations I would have for things to further develop is firstly a level selector. It's rather frustrating to have to repeat the same levels if I close the page. Secondarily, this might seem unusual to say but the animation needs a bit of work as the movement is unusual, but I unfortunately have no experience in animation and don't know how to resolve this. It just feels unusual.

Overall the story was fun as was the game play. I think it ended up being quite good overall as a game, well done.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it!

Yes, a level selector and progress persistence were definitely some things I would have added if I found more time. As for the animations, I’m quite happy with how the blocks move, but I agree that the cake animation would need a rework.

I was going to add a “jumping” animation from catapults (yes they’re supposed to be catapults lol), and add an animation to show the belt rotation. Also, yeah, I guess the movements do look a bit unnatural, as they’re more symbolic than physics-based. Perhaps something could be done about that with some experimentation and smarter movement paths.

I really appreciate your thoughts!

I should have specified, the unusual movement is specifically for the cakes. I agree with you that the blocks move quite nice.

Great puzzle design!

This game is great deal of fun! Neat story, fun but difficult puzzles in a good combination! Nicely executed. Too bad the side-effects seems to only be a part of the story, not the gameplay itself, I feel something could have been done there maybe. Overall, it's a fun game with cute and proper graphics :)

Not sure if it was just me (Firefox on Windows) but the cake had some graphical glitch where it for a frame or two moves back/forward. Doesn't really ruin the experience, and I feel like it's probably a Firefox issue rather than with the game.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah that’s true… The original side effect idea was to do a few more levels with linked blocks like the last one… But when I ran out of time, most of the side effect theme got loaded into the story, which I didn’t manage to integrate too well with the rest of the gameplay.

The glitching cake is a known bug side effect of the hallucinations.

Thanks for the feedback!!

I agree. It's a little bit thin on the theme, but it's a pretty fun and good looking game!

I have the same glitching issue on Firefox on Linux btw.

I enjoyed the puzzles!

I love the artwork, nice and crisp.  Great mechanic and very difficult puzzles for me but I might not have the mind for it.  Nice game!
