  • The different wizards with different abilities was nice but gameplay wise felt lacking with the lack of sound and feel with the shooting, The shooting was quite slow and the impact wasn't really felt when landing attacks. There was also a big imbalance with the wizards with the black and fire wizards doing way more damage and the pink wizard giving health instead of reducing it.
  • While the concept of a multiplayer game on a single computer is interesting, I found the overall execution to be quite basic and lacking in depth. It seems there was more focus on the multiplayer aspect without much consideration for other gameplay elements. For this game to be more competitive in garnering votes, it would benefit from a more developed and engaging gameplay experience. Incorporating varied challenges, enhancing the storyline, or introducing innovative mechanics could significantly elevate the game's appeal. As it stands, it falls short in offering a compelling experience that stands out in today's gaming landscape.

Hey  asimple_dev !

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Hi Ilias!

I’m good, I can answer some questions right now.

I like Game Jams, I like it because you can interact with people more, and for now I don’t know what I can suggest to make Game Jams better.

Maybe the original legends of zelda or the pokemon games.

Probably it’s story, I like video games that has a vast and complex story.

So when I first started making games, I wanted to make games on game engines that are simple and easy to learn, so I hopped on to scratch and tried making projects there but it didn’t quite go as expected, so I hopped on other game engines like construct 2, GameMaker studio 2, and even roblox studio, but i settled down on GDevelop because to me it’s simple, easy to learn and use.

Hey again  asimple-dev,

Okay, well, you know, I never played the original Zelda and the Pokemon games. Maybe I tested some Pokemon on old Gameboys once or twice, but I never got to play them fully.

The first zelda i played was Zelda: twilight princess , i think .

I never tried Construct 2, GameMaker Studio 2, Roblox Studio, or GDevelop.

For me, it's been a long time since I've used Unreal. I tried Unity once too, but mostly Unreal.

Thank you for taking your time and answering.

How are you? My name is Ilias.

I tested your game, 'Wizard Arena.'

So tell me , did dumbeldore get a an entire game made for him ?

Questions:

Did you implement any optimization techniques, or did you choose to use only in-engine optimizations?

What engine and tools did you use to create your game, including the graphics?

How challenging was it to develop your game? Did you face any significant obstacles?

What inspired your game idea and gameplay? Could you share the story behind the game's name?

How did you get into video game development?

Note: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedbacks from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks!

Hey Ilias!

Thanks for testing my game.

And about your question, no… He didn’t

Answers:

I used only in-engine optimizations.

I picked GDevelop for My game engine and piskel for My graphics because that’s the only engine that I’m used to.

It was not a challenging to develop my game, it just had a few bugs here and there but not a game breaking bug.

I was inspired by two player games that me and my sister used to play together. The story of the game is quite straightforward, there’s a tournament happening where wizards and their staff companions fight in an arena… Made of grass… I probably should change the colors or something.

As a kid I always wondered how do you actually make a game? so I decided, when I grow up I want to be a game developer.

Your game was great Ilias.

Thanks again for testing my game!

Sadly I suck at controlling two players at the same time so I could not experience the battle aspect of this game :( An AI would have been good to have to fight against. Good work on the different types of Wizards as well :)

I might try adding a Player VS AI mode in the future

Interesting game! I would place some objects on the map to collect, so each wizard can upgrade his skills and kill the opponent faster. Keep improving it ;)

Developer

I might try adding stuff tomorrow

Good game! I appreciate your work

Thanks!

I don’t understand why everyone is complaining about the balance, you just need to make a fiery mage for a donation and everything will be fine :)

Fun little game, but with some balance issues ( to say the least :P )

I think the UI was nice, but a bit too simple. Be a bit more directive in what you give the player. First time i thought the interface showed me the controls while actually, it gave me the option to select a wizard ( very nice touch and adds to replayability ).

The gameplay itself was kinda slow and with only having one attack going on, gets quite boring too. Adding a bit more options to limit the other player would be a nice improvement.

As for the wizards, i found that Fire trumped all. One hit, 2-3 dps ( i think? ) Which is insane on the total amount of 10.  Dibs on fire!

Besides this feedback, it was just a solid entry and you did a good job in getting this done within the limits :)

Interesting idea! Giving each wizard a different attack is cool! I think some work on balancing is needed tho.

I think each character's ability should be written somewhere on the character select screen so that players know exactly what they can do. Also having a simple graphic showing the cooldown for the attack would be nice.

Either way, it is a nice simple game that could be expanded with more abilities and characters if you wanted!

Nice job! Keep it up!

Very easy to understand, felt the fights were a bit one sided depending on which wizard you used

Developer

yeah, it's a bit unbalanced

It was a blast to see a game made by the GDevelop engine! Curious to see more entries with this engine!
