Sick battle system. I might be the wrong person to rate because I'm not a turn-based guy, but what you have here is really cool! I love the assets, the little bit of music. As it is, you can kind of mash like you said but the amount of detail you put into all the different stats is a good foundation. Great work

Thank you so much! My goal now is to learn how to give players feedback on things, like with animations and damage/heal numbers, enemy animations, etc.!

I always appreciate games made in PICO-8 a lot :] Visually, I like seeing people work with the palette (high marks for making the title screen feel like a genuine title screen for an old home computer game with the ticker tape... it's a little mesmerizing), and I also enjoy seeing how people work around the limitations. It's comparatively difficult to display a lot of information on a low-res screen, so I wanted to specifically compliment the abilities table that you included on the game page; it's akin to having a manual open for an older game. It probably seems like a no-brainer to have, but it's something that's surprisingly easy to have fall through the cracks when you're meeting jam deadlines (title screens are left out a lot of the time, too, for that matter). Jam games are the sum products of a lot of small ideas that start working together the more you're able to iterate on them, and I think the game experience here ended up pretty pleasant (hence why I'd have this much to say about what's otherwise a short PICO-8 game).

In the spirit of power, I stacked nothing but red banners and summarily crushed everything. It's what the health inspector would have wanted.

Thank you kindly! I’m really glad you appreciated all the little touches I put on this game! I wanted to make still a “game” by itself, while being fun, even when under the time pressure of coding it!

cool sprites and sounds ! nice

gonna be totally honest I have no idea what is going on in this game but the art looks really nice I just think you need some more clarification and explaining while you're playing, the icons alone aren't clear enough to me. Good job making such a nice looking first game jam but I highly recommend that when this jam is over you improve the clarification aspect and get some playtests again and see how people feel! dont stop creating things

THANK YOU!!! I 1000% agree, I did not have a tutorial in place and want to have one, just trying to learn dialogue boxes at <2 hours before submission was not happening haha

I can’t tell what is happening, but I won

Love the look of a PICO-8 game, and this game is no exception. The soundtrack is really nice too. I'm struggling to get ahold of the gameplay but I'm going to keep at it and try a few more times! A tutorial might be a helpful addition. Really impressive that this is your first game, nice work!

PICO-8!! Love the aesthetics here! Fun little robot fighting game! I do think there is some work to be done with balancing the combat. I was kind of just button mashing on the enemy robot (i never used heal) and I was able to beat the game. But overall, I love the concept and presentation!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah combat is mash heavy, I plan on fleshing out abilities in the future!

Cool game! I like the battle bot inspired theme! And I'm a sucker for pico-8

Fun game. I felt like tazing the enemy felt a bit op. I like the concept but wish that there was a bit more variety in the options that you can do. But all that matters is that I had fun and the presentation is neat!

Developer

Agreed, I definitely should have increased the cost/cooldown of the tazer. Plan was to have the enemy taze you as well and you really feel the impact of it!

i was a pro by the end, it was fun! i hope you expand upon it <3

Developer(+1)

glad you liked it! I’m already working on making it better :)

Cool little game. Nice music, nice art style. I like the character designs. Combat was fun once I got the hang of it. I found that I was generally using the same strat for every enemy - could use something to switch it up?

Developer(+1)

Agreed, i really wanted more variety, and the final product became just a numbers game. As i work on it more im giving the enemies different abilities and visual cues!

Developer

Honestly never thought abt combining mechs with construction equipment, thats really cool

Thank you! My friend nerostratos who came up with the music actually had the idea! It worked too well with what i had put together to not do it!
