How did you/your team interpret the theme?
you're not the hero, you're just a chest in the dungeon that the hero chases.

How was your/your team's experience in this jam?
fun, although the results are far from expectations.

Presentation's fantastic, and the concept's just as good. There's a lot done with only a few mechanics, and what mechanics there are are pretty clever.

Would've loved some music, but I'm not sure if that'd work with the limitations of the fantasy console you're using. Do agree that being thrown into a level with no time to think does make things a lot harder.

Overall, a great game! Definitely deserves to be expanded on.

thanks for playing and feedback.

actually this fantasy console can play great music especially for this game, it's just that I'm really bad at music :P

I really like the fact that it’s hard, you get dropped into it, and you are going to lose at first, but it’s okay, you get to “try again”! Very well done!

A really good and unique puzzle game.

Nice and simple with really good presentation.

PROS:

  • Pixel art is nice and clean throughout and even though there's only one frame for the chest movement "animation" it reads really well and serves its purpose nicely.
  • I like the slow introduction of more complex mechanics and even the first level of "just move to the right to start the game" gives you an idea of how responsive the movement is and what the game overall will feel like.
  • Thank you for not over-punishing players if they get caught and allowing them to stay on the current level they just failed rather than throwing them all the way back to the beginning. =)

CRITIQUE:

  • Some of the levels were a bit hard to read as soon as you dropped in and it felt bad to get caught because the hero was already too far past a trap or wall by the time I figured out what I needed to do. A 3-5 second countdown timer on level load to just buy players a couple more seconds before everything starts moving would greatly improve on quality of life there.
  • One or two of the levels depended on a monster to kill the hero and ended in a dead end after that monster. It looks like it's possible for the hero to actually path past their patrol without getting tagged if you get unlucky so I'd recommend always building in loops for the player to loop back every time the monster is the intended solution. That way if the hero manages to sneak past the monster the player has an out other than just getting caught and restarting.
  • The audio obviously wasn't the focus, but some of the sound effects were a bit choppy and broken up (hero killed audio stands out as an example).

Loved the concept! The pixel art was really well done and the level design was fun and interesting.

Really a nice and clean concept!

Everything in this game seems really solid, the only addition I could think of would be a simple settings menu to control the volume of the audio because it can get repetitive and it's a little loud for my liking.

Overall a super good job! Great work!

If you could find time, we'd love for you to check out our game! :)

It's a good game. The art is good, I like the music, the sound effects and the concept too. The chest is kinda slow so you have to spam the arrow key. I found some "bugs": 1. The hero will go back to the green button to open the green blocks even though he doesn't need to go through them anymore sometimes. It was especially noticable in a level but I forgot which D:. 2. You can walk through the hero without him opening you if you spam the arrow key fast enough. Other than those I liked the game.

Definitly one of the best concepts in the jam. At first i thought we will play as some kinda dangerous mimic like from Dark Souls 3 but it turned out the game was much more interesting. The pixel art is nice. My only issue is the way the characters move. I don't feel like spamming arrow keys is the best way to move around in a game like this. In my opinion the game would be much more interesting if it would be turned based or if the knight moves one grid at the same time you move one grid.

Really liked the concept on this one - the chest fleeing for its life was pretty funny stuff. Plus the little faces the knight and the chest made at the end of each level! I think this could be expanded on with more fun ways to create levels!

Fun game! I think that the level design is really imaginative. However, I would've liked to see more levels where the buttons and the minotaur interracted and the animation after dying is a bit long. That said, it was a really interesting concept to delve into and the art looked peng.

The concept of being a chest that doesn't want to be looted is funny :D I like the level design and the pixel art and animations are awesome too! The only thing that was a little bit irritating was that broken winning sound but that's just that kind of random stuff that happens sometimes and you shouldn't worry too much about it. Overall you did a great job and I had a lot of fun :) Thanks for sharing your hard work!

Developer

thanks for playing and feedback.

The broken sound is caused by poor optimization, the iris shot effect that eats up a lot of performance.

Omg this is so cute! I was giggling when I saw the chest jumping as I press the arrow button. I really like the idea and gameplay. I was stuck don't the place with 4 walls though. Good job nonetheless!

Very good idea for the game, gameplay is fun, and art looks great, but I stuck on level with the 4 walls...

Thanks for playing and telling the problem.

I got a new lesson, next time I will make a restart feature for puzzle games.

Really good idea, but I get in trouble on 4th or so level, where stuck in 4 walls

Having to spam the keys to move faster was a bit annoying but it's quite a pretty game

Developer

thanks for playing.

that's because the player's movements use a "grid based" system.

but thanks for the critique, I can learn if it's not good enough.

A really nice concept, the gameplay is fun and the style is great, you should continue the development

Submitted(+1)

I love idea of playing as a mimic! Also you can get soft locked on fourth level if you don't move when the hero stands on the button.

This is a super unique take on the theme, and the game plays really nicely as well! I actually had a look into the tic-80 tiny computer you used to make the game, and it honestly adds to how cool the game is!

Nice interpreting theme. Chest is too slow I think. Nice level design and art design.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing and feedback.

You can press the arrow buttons rapidly if you want to move the chest quickly.
