External Credits
I, Hydro Dev, made the game using the Godot Engine, I made the art using Aseprite and I made the music using Bosca Ceoil. The sfx (Dying, Killing and Sparing) were generated using ChipTone by SFBGames. The Evil Doctor's strange, robotic accent voice was made using the "Robotic Voice Generator" in the LingoJam Site. The Fonts were all made in/by Aseprite.
How did you/your team interpret the theme?
You are trapped in a Evil Doctor's bunker who uses you for his experiment. He always tells you "You are not a Hero" (<- the theme). He tries to influence your decisions by telling you that the whole time. The different ending's names are also "You are not a Hero" and similar.
How was your/your team's experience in this jam?
It was very nice. It feels good to finally finish a game... and this time in time for the game jam! Woohoo! I actually didn't learn much (probably nothing) but it was worth it as in the end I at least have a finished project! Sadly the game doesn't have very much different (pixel) art which is the main goal of this game jam but I don't really care that much afterall. At least I have a finished project, as I said.

the voice takes me back to microsoft sam.
I'll take that as a compliment... but I don't know who "Microsoft Sam" was or how he sounded. Haha. I can only assume he was an AI Assistent. Thanks for playing!
good concept.
it's true what it says on the game page some sprites look blurry.
overall good game.
Thanks for playing! I am glad you liked it. :D
I like the concept here! Plot's pretty nice, and I liked how the last option for "all spare" ending has the spare button be completely random if it triggers, and the transtition between meeting a character, choosing, and sparing/killing is great.
The rest of it needs some work, however. The space between all the characters needs to be shortened, and there's really no need for a jump button. The player character's also a bit too blurry, and the music tends to play much louder than the mad scientist's voice. I'd also love some subtitles, since it' s hard to understand them. These really combine to make it too tedious to go back and play the other endings.
Other than that, the game's still pretty good. Just needs some polish.
Thank you for playing! The last option with the spare button isn't triggered randomly... you have to press it 5 times and risk getting killed there... I guess the voice wasn't clear enough or I didn't make it say the right words... to shorten the space between characters is actually a good idea and I though of that. I shortened it while making it - originally it was WAAAAAAAAY longer. I don't know why the player is blurry... in the game engine he is perfect and the art is very good but in html it's bad for some reason... maybe because I made the game run good on older computers too? Subtitles is something that I should've added but I was too lazy :P. The music is louder than the scientist sometimes... sorry for that - I think that makes the game sound a little bit unnatural in a way I didn't intend it... Some polish would probably help I guess as it doesn't have much game feel, at least I don't think it has some. Maybe when I make gamedev content on youtube I'll remake the game??? Would be cool. Anyways, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, that's funny, we almost have the same name! You can be proud to have finished a game, this is really satisfying to have a game completed from A to Z, even if it is small, it helps a lot to keep the motivation for the next projects :)
I'm always happy when I see creators making all of their assets by themselves, bonus points for that. I enjoyed the game, it's a quite simple gameplay, but thanks to the choices we have to do, it adds a good replay value to see all the endings.
My only complaint would be about the panning of the musics/voices. Indeed, sometimes, with my headphones, I hear the voices/musics only on the left side, I don't know if this is a bug from Godot Engine or not, but it's a very small issue!
Congratulations for your game!
Thanks! I really enjoy hearing from others that they liked my game! I don't know how to fix the headphones problem though... sorry. I will try to figure out how to fix it for my next game though. And it's kinda funny that we have the same name as you noticed ;).
I like the overall presentation and the creepy atmosphere, it's amazing that you did all of that by yourself, especially the music is awesome :) The voice acting was a great idea but like others have mentioned before I would have liked additional subtitles too. And a replay button in the end screen would have been perfect because when there are different endings I just have to get them all xD You did a great job, thanks for sharing your hard work :)
Thank you for playing the game! I am glad you enjoyed it. I will hopefully add subtitles next time I make a game with voice(s). I don't know how to make the game start over again... I tried it but I get an error everytime... I understand the problem but I don't know how to fix it. Next time I will hopefully know how to make it. Again, thank you for playing and enjoying the game! :D
Please don't worry that's just some nice to have stuff and there was only a limited time :) To be honest I have no idea how those restart buttons work... :( I am no programmer and I think it's amazing that you are such an all rounder! You did a great job and reloading the game for the different endings was something that couldn't stop me :D
if you mean restart scene make a node 2d then add child (touchscreen or something like that ) then add a script to node 2d click touchscreen add signal if ..... Is pressed :
Get tree.rewind current scene
I dont remember it mostly but thats it
Thank you for trying to help ':)! I will search it up in the internet though so I know for sure if you are right.
Nice job on the robotic voice generator, it automatically created a certain Portal-like feeling I liked!
Haha, I'm glad you liked it and understood it! Many don't understand it which I can totally understand. I am reliefed to see that it's not totally very unaudible or how it's called.
I love how there's an atmosphere on this game even though you only used limited assets for making it. The little touches you made with the voice, music, and the cinematic transitions put it all together. Good job!
Thank you for noticing those! I really tried to make them create a good atmosphere.
I love decision making game , but as the other stated I didn't get the story. Adding a subtitle will be a very good idea , half the time I made my decision based on look... would this make me a racist???
This is a game so don't worry, you won't be a racist because of a game haha. And yes, I really shoudl've added subtitles. I explained the story as a reply to a comment for someone with the name "MsCarrot" something. You can check it out.
Loved the atmoshphere of the game. Nothing to say more
Thanks for playing! I am glad that you liked it.
Great concept, good pixel art and the voice generator you used gives it this creepy vibe. I love it!
I am glad that you enjoyed it! :D
The idea is good, you could improve the game by adding subtitles to make the story easier to understand, I also had a weird line on the left of the screen while playing but that was not a problem at all, the corridor looks can also be improved I think. I've got two endings on the four, it was nice. Each characters death animation was good.
Thanks! Yes, I know I should've added subtitles... but I was too lazy. Haha... Oh, and I don't know how to fix that thing with the weird line... I think it's because I made the project also work fine on older computers but I am not sure. In the editor it works well. I am happy that you liked the game though! And yes, I really should've made more decorations especially for the corridor.
I feel like I can't add anything new that hasn't been said by other comments, but I do have to extra agree the transition/fade to black with the Kill/Spare buttons is a really nice touch.
Thanks! I am glad that you also enjoyed my game! :D
Neat game! Weird that the art was kinda blurry. Maybe a setting in your game editor to turn off anti-aliasing? I liked the different endings based on your decisions. The first time I played, the screen turned red on the old guy with food and just stopped. Not sure what happened. I clicked spare, spare, and spare that time.
Sorry for the art being blurry! I will try to make my next game not have this problem but I can't guarantee that. When not played in the browser (so when played in the editor) it looks perfectly fine. By the way, when the screen turns red it means that you got killed by the evil doctor. There is a chance he gets bored of your decisions and just gets rid of you! He said that in the beginning ;)
But as many have problem I updated the game with a voice when dying telling you that you died before the game shuts down. I don't know how to make it go back to the beginning sadly... Oh, and you won't die everytime you choose "Spare". Only sometimes. It's kind of random.
I didn't get the story cause I couldn't quite catch what the voice is saying. Probably would be better if there is a subtitle. I played it twice and both I get the same ending. Overall, I think this is a decent game.
Sorry about that! I knew that I should add subtitles but I was just too lazy. If you want I can maybe explain you the story... if you are interested.
I am interested! Can you explain more?
Well you are trapped in a bunker of an evil doctor. He uses you and other prisoners for his experiment, known as, "You are not a Hero". You have to walk in a long hallway and all you know is that, well 1. the hallway is long, 2. if he is bored by something you do he will kill you and 3. "YOU ARE NOT A HERO (here)"! Then you walk in the hallway and you choose if you kill the others and knowing nothing will happen to you or you spare them knowing that you may get killed for that and you have to start al over again. There are different endings. 1. If you kill all; 2. If you kill one or two; 3. if you kill no prisoner and you have to kill your dog; or 4. if you kill no prisoner but you do not kill your dog. Oh, you get to the dog if you kill none of the three prisoners.
Really cool little game. I like that it has diffrent endings according to your decisions. The music was really nice, but also a bit laggy (but that could also be my browser). All in all its a neat game idea :)
Thanks for playing! I think the music is laggy because it was made in Bosca Ceoil and that sometimes lags... but I am not very sure. I am glad that you enjoyed it!
I'm super impressed reading that you developed this on your own! I think there are some really nice touches to it, such as the smooth transition to black with the spare/kill instead of just cutting to them. The ending screens were a nice addition as well! I managed to get four of the endings but I don't know if I missed one of them.
Apart from some of the endings only playing music in one ear of my headphones, it worked perfectly as well, nice work!
There are only four endings so that means you got all of them! :D Good job on that... I thought that it would be hard and that many would get mad because they die! But I see that nobody minds them! I am glad that you liked my game and the transitions, etc. I don't know if I could've done anything for your headphones problem... Thanks for playing! I really appreciate others playing my game! :D
First of all, I think you did a really good job with the music. It has a lot of charm to it, and adds a lot to the atmosphere. It's a little detail, but i liked the button animations a lot. Overall, you did a great job at making sure the different parts of the game added to the atmosphere of the game, things like the way the voice sounded made it feel more dark and serious.
A thing i would have liked to have seen however, because it's important to be able to understand what the voice was saying as well as the fact that it's an artificial voice, and just a good idea in general for games with dialogue, would be subtitles. it would also make the game possible to be played by people who are hard of hearing.
Great Job!
Thanks for playing! And thanks for your feedback! I am glad you liked the music and that you noticed how the voice got deeper the more serious it gets! I was hoping that people will notice it. I knew that not adding subtitles would be a problem but because of the limited time I didn't want to have to learn something new (add subtitles AND make the look good). But yes, next time I will try to add subtitles! I am also glad that you didn't mind that the game closed when you died (at least I think so because you didn't write that in your comment). I was afraid that some would be VERY annoyed by that. :D
