Not a fan of the first boss, but the visuals and sound design are really tight. You might want to work on a pause menu cause I did get stuck trying to back out. Overall it was a good experience

Developer

Thank you so much! And I really appreciate your suggestion as well. If I have time in the future, I’d love to work on this and fix all the issues that I, unfortunately, had to submit the game with due to the time limit. Pause menu is now on the list, along with adjusting the boss difficulty levels! 😉

The first boss really messed with me until I realized there was a trick, actually liked the bit of problem solving with it.  The rest of the bosses were fun, but I wanted to see more of the hidden tricks.  Music was great and had a great overall feel to it.  Great job!

Developer

Thank you, Mr. Ninja!

The Spinyang? Yes, actually, the plan was to start with an easier opponent and gradually increase the difficulty. But in the end, this one ended up being the first boss. I tried to build as many creative mechanics around the spinning concept as possible, and that's how this idea came about. Thanks! :)

Dopamine receptors overloaded :D, really reminds me of the older arcade games where you shot against asteroids or aliens, I think you could add some more elements to add more challenge with like the first boss, you could take inspiration of bullet hells and for example lets say you give one of the bosses an orbiting satellite or moon that absorbs bullets, then you create a pattern that forces the player to chase and go with that orbiting object, or make use of the environment.

Overall a good game, good music, fast paced and I liked the small comments in between stages.

Developer

Dopamine receptors overloaded :D – I loved that, it made me laugh, you really got the essence! :)

And everything you wrote perfectly reflects what I originally planned. Thank you for your suggestions, and I will definitely draw from them if I have the time and opportunity to continue this game. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of setting my expectations too high, given the very short time frame. So, from boss 3 onwards, I had to generalize, and I didn’t have time to refine them the way I did with the first two. What you mentioned is pretty much what I originally envisioned. Thanks for your feedback, and for stopping by. It’s a valuable comment! :)

Great feel. Love the retro style.

Please rate my game. Just started game dev, so this is my first ever game jam.

Developer

Thank you!
I rated your game! I left a comment on your page. Thank you for your rating as well! :)

The game animation are awesome ! I was in the game just after it started. Shooting the bosses is so satisfying, I can't stop shooting again and again. The design and the VFX clearly brings me in.

Amazing job !

Developer

It felt really great to read your review because everything you described was exactly what I aimed to achieve and create. I wish I had 1-2 more weeks to work on it—then the XP system could have been usable, with more bosses, effects, and even more satisfying content and dynamics. Thank you so much! :)

I had a great time playing the game! Over time, it gets a little bit repetitive, but the initial UX is enjoyable. :D 🌻

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying it out! :) Yes, unfortunately, I didn't have time to fully develop every single boss, even though that was my original plan. I just ran out of time.

Submitted(+2)

Had fun with this, it's awesome

Developer

Thanks a lot!

The game is too fun, I love the visuals :D

Thank you!

The visual effects look really cool and the game controls smooth! Shooting lasers at the boss is very satisfying with the sounds they make.

I wish the other bosses had a unique twist like the first boss... maybe they did but I never figured them out. I just kept blasting until I won XD It was an entertaining game!

A big negative is that the game application felt very intrusive to run (does not close properly and runs in the background, application does not show up on the task bar, application must be terminated from the task manager). I'm honestly wondering if it's eating up some of my computer's memory in the background even while closed.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your kind words and for trying out my game! :)

Yes, the issues you mentioned are things we also noticed, and I see them as negatives too. However, since I worked on the game alongside my job, I ran out of time and couldn’t fix them. It might be because I experimented with new graphical solutions to ensure it runs on everyone’s system, and somehow the process remains in the background. My apologies! It bothers me too, but I didn’t have the chance to edit it in time - maybe in a future update.

I really appreciate your feedback!

The UI is absolutely stunning, the controls feel super intuitive, and the boss battles were definitely challenging, but it was still very fun. The part I most enjoyed was the special effects, they really make you feel like you're playing an extremely fast game while still having control of everything.

Developer

Thank you for your kind words and for trying out my game, Mr. Tui! 😊

I'll be honest, this is really good

the controls, the bosses, the music are very well done

The only strange thing that happened is that the music kept playing, even after I closed the game

But at least some cool music is playing while I write this :)

Developer

Thank you so much! :)

Yes, unfortunately, this is a known issue that bothered us as well, and we noticed it during testing. Sadly, we ran out of time to fix it, as we could only submit the game shortly before the deadline. But if I get the chance to update it in the future, I’d definitely like to address this.

All the best!

I like the game, especially UI is very lovely made. I would gladly finish the game, BUT man, these flashes. I may, perhaps, be a bit photosensitive, so like at first I just didn't look at these flashes on boss death, but then comes the boss 5, which just constantly flickers when you attack him and on him I gave up, because it was unpleasant to look at the screen. So yeah, would be cool to have some kind of setting, which disables these flashes or something (for example Everhood has it, so both type of players, photosensitive or not, can enjoy the game). And then don't forget, that you need some kind of warning, that your game has such kind of stuff, cuz there could be people more photosensitive, than me.

For other small moments I noticed:

- Perhaps could introduce controls before first level start, like show the screen like you do with other levels. Yeah, I figured out by myself, that I can move with WASD and shoot with space, but I had a feeling, that maybe I'm unaware of some other controls, like maybe I have some shield ability or something and dev just forgot to introduce the controls at all.

- Bosses 2-5 felt a bit weak compare to first one, iirc 2nd can shoot laser and other ones just float. Could add some kind of bullet hell patterns to make it more interesting and increase bosses hp a bit.

Your observations are spot on, and you might not believe this: not only was this the original plan, but some of these features were actually implemented in the game because I had considered them. Unfortunately, as I kept working, I realized I was running out of time, so I had to focus on the core elements just to be able to submit the game. As a result, these features didn't make it into the final version - despite the fact that many of the necessary functions were already written along the way.

Your additional points are also completely valid; that was my original vision. Sadly, I couldn't fully execute my initial plan due to time constraints, but what you described aligns closely with what I was aiming for. I was able to properly develop around the first two bosses, but after that, the others ended up using more generic behavior with some randomization. Originally, I planned to have 25 unique bosses, but in the end, I had to settle for 10—and honestly, I'm just happy I managed to get that many done.

As for the controls, there's an image with them available on the game's profile page, and they can also be accessed in-game by pressing F1.

Thank you so much for taking the time to test the game!

Wishing you all the best! :)

Developer(+1)

So... what do you actually think about this game? Did you manage to defeat all the bosses? They get pretty tough towards the end! :P

Hmmm getting a virus warning when trying to run this. What version of windows is it designed for? My defender might be acting up

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, we also experienced this during testing yesterday (I have no idea why, but I can guarantee it's not a virus).

The game was made on Windows 7 using GM 1.4.9. We tested it on both Windows 7 and Windows 10, and Windows 10’s antivirus flagged it for us as well.

After that, we tested it on VirusTotal, where it got a 1/70 detection rate (just like Windows Media Player and other basic programs :D), so I can assure you it's not a virus, but I don’t know why it's being flagged.

The only thing I can think of is that the game writes an INI file when saving, but even that happens exclusively in the localappdata sandbox environment, so there’s nothing to worry about.

Feel free to check it on VirusTotal yourself.

Which operating system did you try it on? I think it should work just fine on Windows 11 as well.

All the best!

I'm on windows 11! and don't worry I do trust you haha just figured might be good to put a disclaimer out to others who try and run it!

Awesome shooter! Very satisfying gameplay, visuals and music. The bosses are unique and cool!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying out my game and sharing your opinion! 🤓

Very good! :)

(1 edit) (+3)

I didn't download the game but I support every indie devs making awesome games, so that's a 5* from me :-)

Could you post a YT video of your game, that would be awesome.

OOPS: I cannot vote since I didn't participate in the jam :-(

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Hmm, a YouTube video? Not a bad idea! I'll make it today and share the link soon.

Hopefully, this will help a bit because, as far as I can see, not many people have rated my game yet.

Wishing you all the best! :)

Developer(+1)

What I promised, I delivered.
Well, you asked for a video, so I made one.
But since it's a video, it comes with music too!

Absolutely amazing!

The most fun game I played in this jam so far!

Other than jumpscaring me on game start (an offense I take very seriously) it's all awesome!

The controls are smooth, the music is exiting, the artstile is chaotic, the text in-between levels is funny...

This game doesn't really have any flaws!

Also yes, I'm going to give you extra points for spinning in your chair while programming

Developer(+3)

I love your comment! Thank you so much! :)

And also for taking the time to play (and as I can see, testing the other games as well).

I didn’t mean to scare you, sorry about that! The idea was to make the game start with a bang! But after this comment, maybe others will be more cautious too. :P

I wish I had more time to develop all the bosses in even more detail, one by one.

I’m really happy you enjoyed the game. And yes, I spun in my chair so much that I’m now sitting on a gym ball in front of my PC. :)

I gotta go, my coffee’s ready. Wishing you a wonderful day!

Submitted(+2)

The jupscare worked really well for an adrenalyn-filled start!

Wishing a wonderful day to you too!
