What an interesting concept! The music/sound effects at the beginning is really effective. The sounds the mysterious character makes were too loud for me, but if they were quieter I think they would be really engaging, kind of like one of my favorite characters from FFXIV. I appreciate the tutorial, though I was a little confused about how to get past it. After a while I got there, though :) I don't think I quite figured out what to do before I died, but I jumped around and killed a few things! I might go back and try the easy mode, see how that goes. Very interesting game though!
Sorry about the sounds for the Mysterious man, it seems to be a rather common bug
And about the easy mode: the ony hing it does is doubling your iframes :)
A quick tip about solving the puzzles: your character usually hints at the sulution!
I did see that towards the end, that the character told me what to do. Then I couldn't figure out how to break the sand though :( I'm sure if I kept playing I'd get there.
You have to either cause an earthquake or land a meteorite there :)
I like the intro. Really gets you excited to play the game.
For some reason for me the sound effect for the dialogue playing was way louder than the rest of the game.
I think this is the first game of played with a focus on platforming stuff, and the elements puzzle is a really cool idea and well implemented. I found it kind of hard to tell what I was supposed to be attacking when the wheel defender showed up since a lot of other obstacles spawned at the same time that also just looked like a spinning orb.
Cool game!
Really cool concept! I like the creative take on the theme. The fact that each one of the elements had a different puzzle obstacle to it was really cool to see, made progressing trough the levels a lot more interesting! Even though some of them were just... "purple"
Having to constantly re-spin to get what you want after you defeat all the wheel defenders did get a bit tedious. I wish instead of it being completely random, it still picked an element at random, but eventually made sure to land on all of them, I had to re-spin like 30 times on one level to get what I want... The levels were pretty well designed. Each one of them was a GAUNTLET to beat though, especially because of that elementalist wheel defender... damn he was ANNOYING. Each one of the levels probably took me more than 30 minutes to beat, and there was so many! Almost to the point where it didn't feel like a boss rush... (maybe im just bad though? i didn't really see anyone else struggling as much i was so maybe im actually just really bad lmao)
The bosses themselves weren't much easier either. I really liked the boss designs though, loved how chaotic the wheel made them sometimes, especially on the third phase of the wheel fight... what even was that... There was some really annoying stuff though, like if you got darkness or the water rising element at any point it made it basically impossible, and the warnings for the lightning on the second boss were practically useless because of how chaotic they were, like even if you stand in the safe areas most of the time they hit you. Overall though, the bosses are a really fun experience, great job on them!
The combat was nice, but most of the time didn't feel very good. There was such low invincibility frames that it was so easy to get stun locked by enemies, which just got very frustrating. Also, the attack animation too so long that it just doesn't very good to use. Apparently you have more iframes on easy mode? i don't think shouldn't be the case. The low iframes makes it more annoying, not harder. I think with just more invincibility frames and a faster attack the combat would feel a lot better! Other than that though, the character felt really nice to control, very responsive, especially liked the jumping and falling animations!
This was a really cool experience, beating the game genuinely felt like an accomplishment. I think I got the standard ending? I killed the wheel and a bunch of those mysterious figures watched me kneel to the king? I think? Definitely not replaying it to get a different ending though, I think I spent like 6 hours straight beating it. No idea how you guys were able to put this much story, and content, and bosses into this in only a month. This is an insanely cool game!
Thank you soooo much for playng, beating the game and submitting a really in-depth review!!!!
When you re-spin the wheel you are supposed to be able to choose wich element to use (as shown in the second screenshot, you can stop the wheel!), maybe there was a bug but we've designed every level so that if you do everythign correctly you shoudn't have to spin more than 3 times (exept for the last level)
The darkness and water I agree are too hard in comparison to other effects, but once ou get the "quiet" poewer you can stop them!
The elementalist is supposed to be a foe that you arn't supposed to fight unless you are really powerful (or desperate :) )
The only change done by "easy mode" is the iframes change, it makes a bit easier without changing the combat
The attack is a bit slow, it was intended to be a running attack, with a quicker version when you are standing still, but I ran out of time :)
The other ending is nothing much, don't worry about not replaying (there is not much replyability, only thing that can change is the level up) I completely understand (the other ending is a classic bad ending where you repair the wheel, to know how to unlock it you pick up the translator hidden in the first boss arena and the wheel literally tells you what to do)
We were able to put this much amount of content mostly because we are using GameMaker, wich is a really quick way of making games (and I reused the code from the bosses for the later enemies :) )
Again, thank ypu so much for playing, hope this clears everything up, if you have more questions ask away!
oh my god, I fully didn't get that you could choose the element when you spin the wheel, that would've made things a lot easier lol. I'm gonna be honest, I misread "press E to stop" as "press E to skip" (no idea how) and I thought pressing E just skipped the animation for rolling the wheel, thats definitely on me lol
Sorry :)
When the jam ends I'll put a pop-up tutorial to explain it!
Really awesome concept! The mix of puzzle and platforming feels super engaging, and the elemental mechanics make for some really fun challenges. Congratulations! ❤🌻
Cool use of spin! Though boss fight portions seems a bit missing! The lore, sound and visuals are really cool though as are the mechanics
Good game! It feels more like a platformer than a boss rush, but I think it still fits the category in its own way. The roulette mechanic is very interesting and original. I feel like the combat could be improved, maybe a bit more attack range. Another important detail is the invincibility time after taking damage; I think it should last a bit longer. Sometimes, if an enemy hits you while being very close, you don’t have time to react, and you die even if you have full health.
P.S. I imagine you’re using GM’s Glow filter. This filter is quite heavy, though I guess people with more modern PCs won’t notice it. My computer isn’t very powerful, so in the areas where you use the effect, the game runs extremely slow. Everything in the menu and the opening story runs at like 4 FPS. I’m just mentioning this so you can consider it in the future if you want your game to be playable for all kinds of audiences. There are much more optimized shaders for this effect that you can download, or you could make your own.
Either way, great game!
Thank you for the in-depth review!
The iframes upon getting hit can be dobled by turning on easy mode in the settings!
And about the shaders, I'm trying to learn how to build shaders in gamemaker but it's really hard :)
Next time I'll put an option in the settings to disable them, sorry about your fps!
great work on this! really fantastic visuals and love the difficulty of it which made me want to keep going. wish there was more!
You actually finished the game? Thank you so much for playing!!!!!
What ending did you get?
great game, love the visuals and gameplay
Difficult but exciting. Also the intro is very cool.
Great job.
Really enjoyed the music and mood setting that you did. Great job!
I like the cutscene a lot! And your implementation of the theme is really creative. Control will need some work to be more intuitive in my opinion.
Thank you for the feedback!
How should I improve the controls?
I think the attack range should be longer. I know it is short to increase difficulty, but you have to get really close to the enemies to damage them. When you attack, your character cannot move for a moment, I think its unecessary in a fast paced game like this and make the control a bit stiff.
For the attack range it is intended because otherwise enemies later on would be too easy while the stopping while attacking, yes, that could use some work :)
Thank you for the in depth explenation!
Love the intro, love the game concept of the arena changing depending on the wheel! I think the wind-up to the attack should be a bit shorter, especially for a more fast-paced game like this. Nice job!
Thanks for the feedback!
Nice game and quite good idea for enemies very good take on the theme. Bit hard to get use to the combat but still good game and good work on it
That intro goes hard, and that creep wont stop following me around, fight me wheel of elements >:(! haha but seriously really good game, tough but a great take on the theme
just gave me a whole cinematic experience with the opening cutscene, great implimentation of the spin mechanic.
Those enemies are so tricky and the earth quake cutscene is so well done! Good job!
Thank you!
The intro cutscene is a really cinematic and hooked me right in. Talking about gameplay, the combat felt a bit stiff, but its fun to play. Good job!
The cutscenes? Absolute cinema! ✋👨🦳🤚
The game itself has a really interesting concept with huge potential and solid replayability (which is no easy feat!). That said, the combat feels a bit off, which is a big deal since it plays such a key role.
I really enjoyed the puzzle elements and the overall atmosphere — it all comes together really well!
Thanks for the feedback!
The idea behind the combat is that it's really precise, I hope it being kinda difficult didn't take away from the rest of the game!
Fun game with a lot going on, I really liked the little intro cutscene, but I was left a bit confused on how to enter the first level.
I liked the music and the intuitive gameplay, but felt the combat was a bit unfair/overly difficult and could just use some minor tweaks.
i liked music good job
