Rated! ;) Cool art. Cover style reminds me to Take On Me by AHA :P
Another cool BeyBlade btw :)
Thank you if you rate my game as well.
All the best, keep it up!
Game's Take on the Theme
You are a spinning top in constant orbit around the boss in the arena, manipulating your spin trajectory in order to evade attacks is key to victory.
Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
Yes
I also made a game inspired by BeyBlade, well done!! I really like, the graphics are cool and the way the bey moves is really natural, trully feels physical, I just find some attacks hard to avoid but it may be just me. I rate graphics fun and music on top, but I like everything, also, if you have some time, please rate my game too, thanks!!
Hey it's beyblade.
If we hadn't settled on our game idea, we would have gone for beyblade physics too. The rebound mechanic is a bit difficult to get my head around but really fun once we started playing.
I did encounter a weird bug where the entire center area of the area is blacked out with only our player + a few projectiles are visible.
Great game regardless
ya there was an issue rendering a "lava ring" attack it was intended to be an area denying attack forcing players to think more about where they were and not wailing on the boss sadly I couldn't stop it from having rending issues, still not sure what causes it. Seems to happen on low end pc specs and the web browser not sure why tho
fun gameplay and was cool to feel like a beyblade fighting bosses. controls were a bit hard to get adjusted to with your rebound mechanic but once i got used to it the play felt a lot better!
Lot's of fun, and really cool movement mechanics in this game. The screen goes black after a certain boss attack and i'm getting hit by something that i can see, I like the effect of not being able to see much so maybe adjust the black objects alpha channel so the players view is dimmed after the attack and not completely obscured.
Hey, JamesMiller13! Glad you had fun with our game and found the movement mechanics enjoyable! Just to offer some clarification, the black square that occasionally covers most of the arena is a bugged art asset that doesn't properly render in the current build. You can imagine that a large pool of lava forms around the eye, making it dangerous to approach. If you want to survive and make it to the other bosses, I'd recommend hugging the edge of the arena and eventually the attack will end, allowing you to continue your onslaught. Either way, thank you very much for your feedback! :)
The game is really cool, and the mechanic of rotating around the boss makes the game much more interesting. Just to add, on mine there was a bug where the background was completely black for a few seconds.
davedalus was the code behind it but it uses centripetal force as the main mechanic like a planet circling a sun inputting an option just gives a small boost in that direction rebound just reverses your direction entirely. If we didn't do tap to move the game would just move to erratically so we restricted the movement to just tapping to make it more coherent
I was definitely expecting more of a learning curve for the movement, but it felt natural very quickly!
I had a couple of occasions where most of my screen would go black, I assume an asset not loading? I also had some difficulty discerning what on-screen was an attack telegraph and what was the actual attack.
The music was a great addition to the tension of the fight.
Hey, nerdwellrounded! I'm the music composer of the project, and I wanted to thank you for your feedback!
I'm glad you enjoyed the movement and that the learning curve felt natural! The black square on the screen is indeed an incomplete asset we couldn't finish before the deadline, you can imagine a pool of lava around the eye boss. If you want to avoid it, just hug the edges of the screen and the black void will fade soon enough. The laser telegraph was also something that I agree needed more work, though I'm ultimately happy that we submitted a finished build at all. I'm also really touched you enjoyed the music! Thank you once again for your feedback, take care! :)
The movement here is really fun! The tip to tap directional keys was a game-changer, and the game was just the perfect speed once I got in the groove of it. Great job!
Hey! Wanted to hop in and mention that I feel you about the conflicts and life forces, but I think you did a great job. My favorite component is the way you've made the controls really feel like you're in bowl battling it out. The top take on the spin theme is amazing.
we used Godot too! How did you like it?
although I was not the coder on the project deadiless is an amazing coder and he really hit a homerun with the core mechanics with godot he really wanted it to feel like you were being drawn in as if it were real centripical force which he did amazingly at. He had said he was very proud of what he had done. Tho the engine is very powerful I think the coder is what made the mechanics so fun @deadiless thx buddy :3
There was a lot more i wanted to get done but there was a lot of hold ups this month from ice storms knocking out power, scheduling conflicts, motivations, the fires that forced evacuations, pc failures and more unexpected events that are personal. We had it rough, but, we did get something made. Even if its not up to snuff I'm happy with out it turned out (kinda) ^^'' there is no polish but there is a game here.
notes from the art side of things:
I really disliked the perspective we choose for this game, it was difficult to make things look cool and still follow through the game's mechanics. As the artist I wanted a lot more features such as screen shake better arenas and health bars as well as backgrounds but due to the limitations of the issues we encountered we were stripped down to the bone on what could be done.
a lot more effects could have been added as they are in the games files and even updated stuff that just weren't swapped out a lot of this is still the test art so im sad to see all that art go to waste but worry not they were be put up on my itch for free.
Additional note please don't change game engine speed without talking with your artist xD the animations were created at a set speed and the engine speed doesn't cooperate with it if you don't follow the same thing in mind "speeding up" an animation to that speed still messes with production. This wasn't much of an issue for our game but it was at first.
