How does your game fit the theme?
With Dream Catcher we embraced the theme of "diving deeper" by immersing players into an intense experience where they dive further into the heart of fear. As Meek, a dream-walking spirit, you're immediately drawn into a surreal world that captures the essence of venturing into the unknown depths. This theme resonates as you navigate through the haunting landscape of the Abyss, each step emboldening your resolve. Adding an extra layer of challenge, we've interwoven a second theme 'travel and terror' making sure your journey isn't just a run but a nerve-wracking expedition.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All of the code and Graphics were created during the jam by Josh and Rayner.
The sound FX and music were purchased from splice.

Cool game! It took a few tries for me to understand how the game worked, but I really enjoyed it once I figured it out. I think it would help the experience a lot if you implemented some way to see how fast you are currently moving (either a meter or having the animation change). Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much PhantomDev! We did have animations drawn for the running but time got scarce and we thought it was more important to prioritise other elements! Will definately add to a future build! Glad you enjoyed the game!

Very cool art and feeling. I'm not big on horror and too difficult for me mechanically - I got a bit stuck in the beginning, but it 100% fits the theme and I love the art style!

Thanks Flo and love your honesty we understand the game is not for everyone, hope you still took something out of it cheers!

Such an original concept. The mechanics are simple but so well designed. They make the game feel complete.

Congratulations!

Developer

Thanks so much, originality was very important to us so it’s great to hear you think we hit the mark! Appreciate your words 😊

Great little game here could even work well on mobile. I loved the ambience/art style and sound it all went together to create a great immersive game. also loved you took into account when designing the itch page so it all fits together with the darkenss. well done guys

Developer

Thanks so much for the great feedback! Thanks to yourself and others suggesting it’s highly likely we will rework this for mobile so I’ll notify you if we do! Appreciate your time for playing and the feedback! 😊

Loved the feel of the game! The art and sound pulled it together really well and the mechanics were simple enough to understand. Well done!

A nice and simple game! It has unique controls, great audio and visuals, and a very polished feel. I totally get how you incorporated the diving deeper theme, but I think you could emphasize it a bit more, maybe having different backgrounds or decor the deeper you get? Its simplicity made it great, but also a bit lacking in replayability.

Developer

Hey Shrimp Moose, Thanks for the great feedback! Thanks for noticing all of those things about the game and pointing out what we could improve, will definately try to implement those things in a future build :)

The mechanics were simple enough but I can tell there's a lot of depth (pun intended) to them, just another way this game knocks it out of the park! Love the art, sound, and mechanics!

Developer

Thanks for your awesome feedback Tom, We did spend a lot of time trying to come up with interesting mechanics for the game, im glad you noticed and had a play around with it! Appreciate you!

This game is great! Great art, great sound design, and the gameplay loop is pretty simple, but effective. Tho I had some difficoulties balancing the walk speed at the start, I think a clearer indicator of the walking speed would be nice (just the animation slowing or speeding up). I like the interpretation of the theme of diving deeper, making the player "dive deeper" into the game and immersing all their attention in each careful movement! Also I could really see it being part of something bigger, up the good work!

Thanks so much for the kind words and appreciate the in depth feedback! We had planned to implement some running animations but it was out of the scope (even though we had drawn them) we are looking to have them redone by an actual animator for the mobile version which we hope to release.  Glad you seemed to enjoy the game Distru!

Lol this game actually made me jump 😆 It works so well! I saw it is in a vertical format so I tried it out on my phone and I had fun, I really enjoyed it :)

Developer(+1)

Driann, thanks for the awesome feedback mate! We’re keen on making this into a mobile game so stay tuned :) love that you got a jump out of it! xD

Very cool art style and audio! But the mechanics were a bit confusing for some reason. Great job on this!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback Experty! yeah the mechanics are a bit challenging to get we agree, we will remedy this in the future to make the game easier to understand!

the graphics and audio were outstanding, but in the fun department the game is lacking :/

Loved the graphics and audio but didn’t really understand how to play it

Developer(+1)

Its definitely a challenging mechanic, you have to make very subtle movements to avoid the danger and check the top and bottom of the path to see which monster is waiting for you, I wrote some tips below the about section of the game if that helps :)

Submitted(+1)

The game has some great style and feels like a nice simple mobile game.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, we are thinking we might polish it and do a mobile build! :)

Submitted(+1)

I like the sound and graphics, but i cant figure out how to avoid the danger, i can see it with the light but nothing i do avoids the monsters.

Developer

Hey thanks for the feedback, You have to slowly move your mouse up or down to move away from the monster, very sublte movements increase your speed to move away, hope that helps!

Submitted(+1)

I could'nt get it :/ but love the graphics

Developer

Hey thats okay its a very challenging mechanic! Glad you at least enjoyed the visuals :)
