How does your game fit the theme?
You move through doors to change the layout level, and you have to reach a door to reach the next level. At first, you don't know how the level might change.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, except for following some Brackeys tutorials for UI.

It's hard to remember what's through different doors so I just walked through random doors until I succeeded but apart from that it's a good short and simplistic game(I am definitely not biased due to making a game with a similar mechanic)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I loved your game, too. I definitely need to work on showing what is going to happen before you go through a door.

That was such a neat concept, blocks changing the shapes were funny but pleasing to look at. Also nice job on implementing slopes, they are impossible things to work on properly but in this case slopes did some visual improvements without being too janky in terms of gameplay.

Things went smoothly from stage 1 through 3, though I struggled a bit in stage 4.. Not sure if it's intended but that final stage seems to require memorization and blind experiments. I'd suggest adding indications for ground placements, which can be viewed before entering the door.

Developer

Thanks! I actually spent an entire day of the jam coding slopes, glad to hear that they worked well. I definitely want to work on telegraphing the ground placements.

Love the concept behind this game! I really like the level designs, they felt very thought out! Great work!

Great game to be honest, it is also similar to my game concept to some extent, really liked it well done.

amazing platform/puzzle game! I love the idea for the theme. Its very clever and the puzzles are fun to solve. Even with the simple art/ music the game feels very nice due to the other effects. One of the best puzzle platformers ive played so far! Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much!

The idea is really clever but a few things add up to make it feel a bit frustrating and finnicky:

  • no indication of where things will go
  • some platforms move much faster than the player
  • lots of platforms moving out from under you

The result is that the first time through any door is a guessing game for what direction (if any) you should be moving in; it feels like the only way to progress is memorising the patterns (maybe this was the intended experience?); and the early sections get boring/annoying as you have to replay them every time you fail to guess where you need to go at a new door.

You might want to consider either;

  • more forgiving transitions, put all doors on static or slower moving platforms
  • telegraph where things will move to so players can plan ahead
  • or, add a limited checkpoint or rewind mechanic to avoid early sections getting boring while you learn the later ones. You could maybe even have 2 stages to a level, the first where you can check what doors do to plan a route then the second where you play through and execute it.
Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback!  I will definitely try to implement those ideas after the jam is over. Do you have any suggestions for telegraphing the transitions?

Depends how explicit you want it to be, having coloured outlines of all the options at all time would probably make it too cluttered but you could probably do a preview when you get within a certain distant from a door. Alternatively you could do like a ghost platform that moves ahead of the real one.

I loved the simple graphics, the jump felt a little floaty but i loved the concept

The simplistic graphics look really pleasing. Good job with the colour pallettes. The idea is really fun and can be expanded further. The only problem I had was the controls which were a tad clanky. Adding coyote time and jump buffering would make the controls more responsive.

Developer

Thank you for the suggestions and for playing! I did add jump buffering, but it probably isn't forgiving enough.
