Great Efforts...

Your game was fun and to make the player feel the unique athmosphere of the game is already a lot of work and thoughts. Congratulations! I want to see what games you can do in the future :)

Good job on participating in a game jam as a newbie!

About the game: Some sound / music goes a long way, the graphics can obviously be improved. Gameplay is relatively slow. As a rule of thumb: Make the game twice and fast and try how it feels.

I liked your game. Well done for making it in just a week as a new developer! Good job!

Congrats on such a well built game for being so new, I was no where near as good as this when I first started. I also appreciate the Metroid inspiration :)

For some pointers, I think adding a sound track helps make games feel more atmospheric. For me, I had 0 time when considering music, so I just used Freesound.org for basic sound effects and background tracks, you can search for a lot on there. Adding audio to Unity is incredibly quick and easy too, you could do it in 10 minutes tbh.

Do you happen to be using forces for your player's movement? The player feels a bit floaty and quite slow in general. You can remedy this by having the RigidBody2D of your player gravityScale change depending on if your upwards velocity is positive or negative. This makes jumps feel way better to use in my opinion. And also just increase the horizontal move speed a bit.

For one last thing, I think it would be better if the mini platforms were semi solid, so you could jump upwards through them, but won't fall down. For my game, I did this easily by making a box (with rigidbody (set to kinematic) and box collider), and putting a "Platform Effector 2D" onto it. Select the "use one way" box, and it should work!

Overall, great job!

Thank you for the feed back i defenitly rushed the game. it was around 11pm when i finished and i was worried sound would be so difficult to add that i just scrappped it, definetly will try the free sound thing

Great job, jams are the right place to test your skills and improve them! I would suggest you always expose the parameters of your movements and etc, so you can tweak them easily, as current movement feels too slow.

I think sound would add a lot to the atmosphere of the game. But it already gave me Alien vibes. Well done! Hope you'll keep up game developing =)

Pretty neat game, really could the inspiration from Metroid :)

Hope you'll also rate mine :) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690

It's cool when a person with little experience starts participating in jams, and it's great that the game was released on time and looks complete (except for the lack of sound). For the future, it's better to do everything in the same style so that the player doesn't stand out so much (you can just circle this sprite). In general, congratulations on a successful submission and a good project.

This is really impressive considering the experience you have with unity and C#; With my second ever game jam with over a year of experience I couldn't even finish a game to submit, so really well done! The game could use some sound effects and music tho, you can try Bosca Ceoil for music (brackeys has a tutorial on how to use it) and 'bfxr' for some easy randomly generated SFX, there is a download for both programs here on itch and I would highly recommend it for future game jams!

It's great for and entry with only 2 months of coding experience, I remember struggling the shit out of basic coding back in high school... (I decided to go into art later) The jumping near the beginning was quite annoying as I keep bumping my head on the second platform, everything else was fine! Keep it up brother

very nice game for doing this 2 months, and good job on finishing a game especially for a gamejam of 1 week, keep at it!

Fun little game. I liked how the game world changed after you reached the midpoint, I think you could have leaned more into that and had more destroyed rooms. My main complaint is just the slow movement speed and unresponsive platforming, it sometimes felt like it took unnecessarily long to reach places. Overall it was a fun experience though, good job!

Overall very nice game and u made it in just a week, not everybody can do that. If im gonna be real and give good feedback then i think u know the graphics could use some work. Other than that and player feeling a little wierd(probably bc of animations) the game is really cool! Hope u will get better at making games and create something that will win a gamejam

Hee-ho. Nice game. Metroid doors are nice

Hey that was pretty good for a first go. I beat the game and had a good time doing it.  I liked the switch to detonation mode and how  the changed as a result.

The jump could use a little bit of work - maybe just need to adjust the spacing  of platforms because in some areas I kept bumping my head.  Another option is to use a Platform Effector2D component on your platforms, to allow the player to jump up through them but still  land on top of them.

I also liked the level design. Reminded me a lot of Metroid for sure. Nice work!

Developer

i thought i would have to do some crazy spaghetti code to get that type of platform. Definitely using the platform effector 2D next time. Thanks. :D

Nice submission! I like the Metroid feeling with the doors, escape sequence and overall feel of the level design. A bit of sound effects and music would go a really long way towards giving everything a nice level of polish. The camera felt a bit close -- I think it's an appropriate choice given the style of game but pulling it out a bit further would make things feel a bit less claustrophobic. Good work!

Really good for only two months of experience. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos on platformer controls and trying to apply it to this game as practice.

Made it to the boss! Great job with the art and level design, it really shines. A bit more polish and you'll have something fantastic.  Keep it up!

Made it to the boss, just a few things
Great art and level design, just needs a little polish, but otherwise well done for 7 days!
