How does your game fit the theme?
Its a game about sailing a ship, gathering resources, and every few mins or so, the player has to battle against the storm which brings rogue waves, ghost ship and sharks. So There is a calm period and a Storm period.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, we were a team of 3, RiciTrix and HeadHunter42 were the main developers, and Admiral Grey was the Sole artist/Asset creator (RiciTrix also made all of the vfx and music and sfx)

Cool game, the water looked amazing and there’s some really cool concepts to expand on. I would have liked some form of minimap as while there wasn’t a need, it was easy to get lost and lose track of islands or have no idea what enemies are remaining if they’re offscreen.

I also felt like enemies weren’t a noticeable threat, even the waves didn’t do a lot of damage that I would tank them and heal later. With the low damage of enemies, I never felt like I needed to balance between driving and shooting, so I also was rarely on deck mode and then never changed after upgrading to the autofire. I saw mentions that more deck options would be added so hopefully those will make the game loop more engaging. I’d be excited to see a future update to this with more polish, great work!

Hee-ho. Good game

Neat game! I love the idea of having to let go of the helm to shoot the cannons and do stuff around the ship, also enjoyed upgrading my ship all the way to max level. The water is very well made too! Adding more juice to the game could probably make it look even cooler, like a big effect when you hit the enemy ship or shark, or adding animations or effects for when sharks and ships go down. Great stuff overall!! (:

A good game, enjoyable and relevant to the topic. I didn't find any critical bugs or errors. There are some minor changes, in addition to the previous comment, that I think are worth making:

  • close the leveling menu with the Esc key;
  • add anisotropic filtering to make sprites smoother;
  • make the bottom layer of water (which is dark) static so that the direction of the character's movement relative to the bottom is clearly visible;
  • add a collider for enemies so that they do not enter each other and the player.

These small changes will make the game even more enjoyable. Overall, great job!

Lovely game

I loved the idea that you could walk on the ship as it moves and i think this mechanic has more potential if you want to continue on this game.

i played it till i got all upgrades and it was quite nice.

The game was very good for the time available!

Having said that, here are some issues i found that i only mention in case you continue this game and not trying to be rude:

  • The waves or sea effect got me quite dizzy in combination with the ship turning.
  • The creates could be different for each material so you search for what you need and it is not rng
  • The cannonballs rotated along with the ship making some fun curveballs but not sure if you would want that
  • Enemy ships could spawn and move out of the borders
  • The 7th and 8th cannons ui was too low and out of the window and couldn't click (i m on 1920x1080

GJ however and as i said i would love to see the walking on the ship mechanic used in more ways

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! The jam actually inspired us to explore this concept further in 3D, but we will be releasing a few patches after voting concludes addressing the issues you mentioned as well as mechanics we really wanted to have but could not implement due to time constraints.  We agree that the ability to move around the ship was not used enough but we will be adding on deck ship repairing, crew mate management and maybe even a captain's quarters for a map and ship customization! We hope that you will try the game again once we made some progress on it! :D

very interesting idea to be able to zoom in and walk around the ship

Upgraded the ship and canons to max level :)

The game was entertaining.

Being able to move around on the ship really adds a lot to how fun this is.

Your game looks like it has some potential! I wished you made seamless world with no boundries and exploring it more rewarding. Right now there isn't much going on and it's only difficult in the beginning when you can't really protect for yourself. I really liked that you included a tutorial (a lot of games here lack those), and the fact that you can walk around the ship. Wished you could get to walk on the islands, cause right now you only walk to fire the guns, but it makes more sense to just gather stuff for level 2, cause it's not very convenient to fight without being able to maneuver. Overall, good job.

Developer

Yea we wanted to initially make it so you had to repair your ship as well, and be able to go treasure hunting on the islands, but as you can guess we could only do so much in 1 week. But Those are definitely things we are looking to add after the jam is over! Hope you will give it another try when we have made some decent progress by then ^^, and thank very much for the feedback!

I love the music, and the water effects go crazy!

Cute animation style, and the little guy on the boat is to die for. Wish he could have bigger role in the game, like having sleeping/eating needs, etc :)

Overall very nice game with unique animation

I think that this concept has loads of potential! I love the idea of sailing your ship, and then being able to instantly change to walking on deck to shoot the cannons.

Constructive feedback:

  • I personally feel that the camera rotating with the ship, along with the water shader, results in a bit of motion sickness. I'd look to experiment with keeping the camera at a fixed rotation, or at least add quite a bit more smoothing & delay to the rotation.
  • Getting the ship in position to shoot and also getting to the cannons in time to trigger the shot is quite difficult. I can definitely see how it may be a skill issue on my part (maybe I need to practice allowing the boat to rotate while I'm walking to the cannons), but there's potential here to make the combat a bit more approachable.
  • Other than the cannons, it would be nice to have other reasons to change over to walking along the ship deck.
    • Idea: After being shot by an enemy cannon, the player could have to patch up a hole on deck in order to stop damage over time to the ship. This would force the player decide between maneuvering the ship, or taking action on deck.

Overall, I really enjoy the concept, and I can see this idea being taken further. I'm looking forward to seeing where the three of you take this in the future. Well done!

Thank you so much for the feedback, we actually wanted to do all of those things, but due to the time constraints we had to go with literally the bare minimum 😅😅

It was hard at first, but ended up being really fun. Well done

really coo game! it did unfortunately make me a bit motion sick though! it was fun enough for me to push through it though lol

Cool game! I really liked the idea

It's a fine work to create this from scratch! It's fun to release the wheel and get to the cannons. My only complaint would be the way the water moves, it makes my head spin after a certain while.

Cheers!

The idea of driving and shooting at the same time is quite unique. What how chaotic would this be in multiplayer where different teams on different ships fight with each other. One sad suggestion is the way the water moves... it feels a little dizzy. Also try checking the Profiler in Godot to see what's eating up the load time, which should hopefully allow you to find the root cause of the lag spikes and fix it.

Overall it fits the theme, interesting mechanic.

Cool idea! I struggled a bit in combat manoeuvring the ship and shooting, but it was enjoyable.

Good work you guys.  Got to lv2 cannons before wiping a few storms in.  Very innovative control scheme, and good interpretation of theme; I think it'd be cool to upgrade the ship's mobility in different ways.
