This looks so beautiful! Really awesome you guys made it all!

Please update the web version if you manage to fix it, since I don't hace a windows PC at reach I can't play it properly :C

Developer

Good news! We fixed the web build! It was this issue https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/88192

This game was beautiful, I was shocked when I saw it was all made from scratch. Especially the water, very pretty. There's something very relaxing about it, maybe the simple controls or the atmosphere. My only gripe would be that it was a little too slow for me, but that's an easy fix. I hope you all continue working on it, it's definitely worth fleshing out all the features! Great work.

Developer

Thanks so much! Yeah, we agree that it would be good if the sailing was a bit faster. We ran into some issues with all the forces interacting, and it was most stable at that speed, but I think we can speed it up given a bit more time to work out the issues. I hope we do get a chance to update it some time in the future!

You can fix and reupload web version, it is fine with Jam's rules. Let me know if you do

Developer

Yeah, we recently realized that we are allowed to do that! Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten a chance to figure out what the issue is. It seems like Godot just stops rendering all out geometry when we hit a certain amount of polygons, but the limit seems very low so I suspect there’s something else going on. I’ll definitely let you know if we update the web build!

I think the fishing mechanic didn't work for me? It always ended abruptly and I don't know why and also the boat could be faster. But overall it's pretty and can see this as a full game in the future! :)

Developer(+1)

Ah! So you can only fish when you are in proximity of a fishing spot. I suspect what happened is your boat kept drifting forward while you were fishing and left the spot.

Thank you for playing!

Ooh makes sense, I think stopping the boat automatically for the player could be Quality Of Life improvement, but making the whole game more realistic and challenging is also a possible way where to aim your game! :)

The sailing is nice and smooth, could be a little faster but still enjoyed it :)

Developer

Agreed it could be a little faster, that’s something we’d like to tweak in the future. Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

The fishing minigame is awesome—definitely the highlight for me! Sailing felt a bit slow, though. I think speeding it up, even if it means adjusting the distance of objectives, would make the game feel more engaging. Overall, a fun experience with a neat concept. Well done!

Glad you enjoyed fishing!

The fishing minigame is peak. Sailing feels a bit slow though, my monke brain would prefer for it to go faster even if the goal is made proportionally further.

Tryed the game and the shaders/textures of the water and the boat don't load on Brave idk
But from what I can see from the photos it looks like a really fun and chill game! Congrats!

Developer

Yeah, the web build is broken unfortunately :( It was working fine when we tested it the day before, but on submission day something broke and the web build doesn’t display anything on the main sailing scene (definitely not just your browser, I see the issue too).

If you are on Windows you can download it from that page and try the exe! That works properly!

Didn’t understand everything in the beginning but after reading the controls started to work my way through the water. A calm background music would have been nice but what you did is really impressive for 1 week. I am not sure if the storm is that slow but I didn’t see it once. Won the game though and had a nice experience with it.

Developer

Ah, yep. The storm doesn’t actually catch you yet. We needed a few more hours to get that part all wired up but didn’t quite get to it. So the only threat at the moment is crashing into rocks or beaching yourself on the sand.

Glad you had a good time! Hopefully we’ll be able to revisit post-jam and add in some of the planned systems and features!

Extremely impressive, that you have made a working boat alongside a water system and wind mechanic. Unfortunately, the core gameplay is extremely hard (to understand?). Played it for ~5 min and didnt catch a fish or get money once.

Developer

Thanks so much! Yeah, we spent a lot of our time on the water, wind, shaders, etc. and definitely didn’t end up getting enough UI/tutorials in for explaining the core gameplay loop.

So, to catch a fish, you basically need to “park” on a fishing spot. You align your sail with the wind to sail around, and then un-align it to slow down/stop on top of a fishing spot so you can do your fishing.

The intention was to have the storm slowly catch up with you, so that you need to balance your time, but for now you can kind of spend as long as you want fishing (at least until the waves push you out of the fishing spot or into a rock).

Ah, that’s why the fishing Minigame randomly stopped for me, was thinking that I was just too bad at it xD

I had a hard time understanding the controls, but after reading them I think they are pretty interesting. I haven't played many boating games, but the idea of aligning your sail to the wind isn't something I've seen before. It feels a little odd that can seemingly align your sail with the wind and then move in any direction(?), and it can feel pretty bad when you are having a hard time aligning yourself. the fishing minigame i also found a bit hard to understand. It would keep ending as I sailed over it, and i wasn't sure how properly position the catching circle on fish that weren't exactly on the radius.  I think the biggest thing the game probably needs in its current state is UI/etc that better conveys what's going on, but If you were to expand the game out, i think it could be cool to have stuff you can do/manage on your boat when you are having a hard time catching the wind. The game also looks nice, and the logo is awesome.

Developer(+1)

Hey! Yeah, the sail mechanic was borrowed from Sea of Thieves actually. We originally had more “realistic” sailing mechanics, where you couldn’t just go in any direction, and unfortunately we felt that was was a bit too hard to understand, so we switched to this simplified model which we knew people had some experience with (in Sea of Thieves). It is true that it’s a bit hard to tell whether or not you have the sail aligned properly. We ran out of time to add a more accurate wind indicator (i.e. something like wispy wind lines), so you kind of just need to go by the direction the clouds and sea foam are moving, and watch the sail and listen for the sail flapping noises.

For the fishing minigame, you can only fish while you are on the fishing spot, so if your sail is still aligned with the wind, the ship will keep going and you auto-stop fishing once you are no longer in the spot. I agree that we could have made that a bit clearer, but that was another thing we ran out of time to do :(

Love the suggestions about stuff to manage while the wind isn’t in your favor, and totally agreed that more UI/tutorializing are necessary. Thank you for playing!

Moving is a bit hard and not sure i understood how to fish properly

Developer

Yeah, sorry, we ran out of time to add any tutorials. You need to align the sail with the wind with Q/E to move the boat, and then you can turn with A/D or the arrow keys. You can start fishing with spacebar when on a fishing spot, and then you use the mouse to try to keep the fishing target on a fish until the bar fills up.

Like the concept. Good Luck!
