In what way does your game fit the theme?
You can rewind bullets that haven't yet hit anything and collect them again, or use them as a boomerang... This is key in the boss battle at the end!
Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All of the code is written by my self, art, design, sounds and similar were all done by me. Only the Music and Fonts were by other people, seen in the credits and on the page.

This game is really cool, and a lot polished. However I really don't like that when you die you have to restart the level from the beginning and that when you lose all your lives you have to restart the whole game, it feels unfairly unforgiving. Besides this, nice entry!
Cool, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback, there was an limitless mode option in the settings that you could have put on, it was so harsh to simulate the original Mario bros games, but I'll definitely make it a lot bigger for the final release, thanks again!
Hi great game really smooth and polished!! I just think its a bit harsh that you get killed in one shot.
I'm glad you liked it! And thanks for the feedback :D
Really nice game! The controls feel good and the artwork also looks very nice.
The shooting mechanic can just be skipped and run through the level avoiding the enemies, maybe adding some way to force the player into using the shoot-rewind tech would be nice. The background also leaves a black void at the top and bottom of the level, but that might be intended and didn't feel bad at all, so no problem.
But apart from that, the game has a simple idea and manages to build nice levels around it. Everything feels like a part of the same game and I had a good time playing it. Good job and keep it up!
I would really appreciate if you could check out my game and leave a rating, thanks :)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I've seen the issue about skipping levels so in the last two I tried to enforce the shooting mechanic a bit more, especially by adding the boss fight which requires the use of the rewind mechanic, although I'm not sure how well it actually worked. The background was a problem I knew about - I thought it looked kind of cool but a lot of people have mentioned it so on the newgrounds release I have locked the camera to not go above / below it :D Thanks for all the feedback, I'll definitely try to check out your game if I get the chance :)
Solid entry! I love the double jump animation! The graphics are clean and the audio is good! I think there could be more visual feedback for when you hit an enemy or die. For example, a death animation (Although my game doesn't have that lol). Also it would be more fun if the player didn't die in 1 hit. Maybe 2 or 3 hits would be nicely balanced.
As for the bullets, I think the rewind mechanic was a bit useless, since most of the time my bullets would hit a wall, so rewinding them wasn't possible. It also doesn't seem necessary to beat levels.
Overall though, you did a good job! The game is fun and movement felt good! One thing you could do is increase the timescale a bit! It can make the game faster and usually, more fun!
Thanks, glad you liked it! I've heard the death feedback a lot, apparently the flashing wasn't good enough so I'll be sure to update that :D... When it comes to the 1 hit I was trying to replicate the challenge from the original Mario brothers game so I'm still weary about changing it 🤷♂️ and yeah the rewind mechanic is practically useless which is why I threw in the boss battle at the end that required it... Could definitely have done better there though, and the movement is faster in the more up to date version on newgrounds in the description, you were definitely right with that suggestion, it really does make the game feel better when it's going faster!
Nice game with an interesting idea. Had fun playing it. I have only one suggestion though - give the player more health) Apart from that, the game is pretty good!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I've had this suggestion a lot, and there is a "limitless mode" in the settings for unlimited lives :D ... It's limited to 3 automatically to create the challenge introduced by the original Mario brothers games.
The game is pretty fun, good game design, nice idea and great music. Maybe the jump's sound effect is a bit too loud, but it's fine, you did well in general
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it! I'll be sure to take what you said into consideration for the full release 😄
I died too fast XD. Probably make the bullet more visible or a glowing bullet would help. Cool idea. Good job!
Ah I'm sorry to here! :D Thanks for the feedback!
Really love the rebounding bullets and the side-scroller gameplay! However, the controls could be less sluggish plus the graphics could better tell which areas are spikes and which areas are platforms.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it! All these have been fixed in the latest update, which is on newgrounds... If you want the link it is in the description of the game :)
I was really surprised by the minigame, you guys had a lot of work here. I LOVED your game, its pretty, cute and works well. Its not very complicated and easy to understand. When I was playing with the limitless mode (cause I keept diying everytime), the boss didnt died even if I used all the bullets at him. But the rest was just perfect working!
If you guys feel like, please go take a look at our game too <3
I'm glad you enjoyed it :D For one person I'm pretty proud tbh, probably the only thing I've made that I'd call fun lol. The minigame also only took like 10 minutes or so, but I'm glad you liked it. The boss is an interesting one, you had to use the rewind mechanic to hit him when the hatch at the top was open, I could have definitely made this more obvious, and for the bosses in the final version I'm definitely going to make their mechanics more obvious... All the same I'm glad you enjoyed it and will definitely try to check out your game if I get the chance!
Ahhhh Now I got it! Makes sense when you tell me how I should kill the boss. Its mechanics seems pretty cool, and I believe you can make it looks perfect in no time. Maybe introducing like you did with the others. Great job for just one person!! I'll be around to see what happens with this project for sure!
Thanks a lot, I'm glad to hear it!
This has a really cool concept and brilliant execution of the theme! And the fact that you made a minigame as well is amazing!
Thanks I really appreciate it! The minigame didn't take me long, probably ten minutes or so 😂 but never the less I'm glad you liked it :D
This was a fun game, kinda punishing to die and go way back but it was fun ver the less. congrats!
Thanks, it was kind of intentionally punishing because the game was so small, but if you couldn't make it to the end, there is the "limitless mode" in the settings :)
This is a pretty cool game. The player speed feels a bit slow, and when you miss with the bullets and they hit a wall you can't get it back. The graphics are amazing, and the extra flip when the player jumps is great.
Thanks, glad you liked it! The player movement is a known issue and has since been updated on the newgrounds version, found in the game's description... The bullets hitting a wall was also intentional, just to make sure it wasn't too easy, although if too many people don't like this I'll switch it up. And thanks, this is the first game jam where I've focussed on graphics :D
I love this sound effects and graphics! Good job! Cool idea!
Thank you!
Very nice game! good visuals and sound effects
Awesome!!
Rate my game too pls :))))
Thanks, glad you liked it! And will do if I can find a way to play :D
Very Nice Man, i like the visual and game design os fun, rate my game too ;)
Thanks, glad you liked it! I'll try to check your's out later :)
I loved the game so much well done.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
The game was hard but very cool, I love the art and animation, especially the front flip on the double jump. Nice concept too!
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it! 😄
The normal mode is very hard! I instantly switched over to the endless mode. The particles and sound effects are really well done, but a particle/sound effect for when you die seems oddly missing, many times have I died only to find out a moment later. I think deaths in a game like this should be very impactful as you have such a limited amount of lives. The level design is pretty good, especially the particles showing where the platforms will move across, but the spikes are often off screen, leading to many "leap of faith moments". Also I didn't find myself using the bullets too often, I think this game could benefit greatly with a score counter to incentivize the player to kill as many enemies as possible. This game is very great none the less. But a weird bug occurred when I was fighting the boss, I stood on top of it and I got launched into space and died when I fell down... anyways sorry for the long review but this game was very interesting.
Thanks a lot! Glad you found the endless mode :)... I'm going to update this game after the jam so I've noted all of these things down. Thanks a lot for the input, it'll be very helpful! That bug is certainly interesting, I'll have to look into that, kind of funny though :D. And thanks for the long review, it does help a lot, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Such beautiful art style and game design, I like the idea of having to use the bullets as a boomerang sometimes, a really cool twist on the generic shooting games :D. Hope you try mine too https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722968
Thanks! Will definitely check out your game when I get the chance :D
Liked the art style and it's difficulty level!
Thanks man!
