How does you game fit the theme?
Our level design was heavily inspired by the theme "It is not real".

An illusionist has trapped you in a labyrinth that forces you to question the very nature of your reality.
You will have to put aside what you think you know, because nothing is as it seems. It is not real.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Almost entirely, yes. The only exceptions are the following:

* The skybox for the maze (which is largely not visible in the game) was a free asset that 5hadowduck found on the Unity asset store.

* SpellMender spent two weeks before the jam working on the player movement and camera code. The scene at the end of the game was developed by him during that time.

* The grass and tree objects found in the final scene were free on the Unity asset store.

* While a lot of the animations were derived from Mixamo all of the models are original.

It was great!
Some more information about the way to go would be a good add up, just to make it clearer to the player if he takes the "right" path.

Nonetheless, great game, and well done on it ! Congrats !

Developer

Glad you enjoyed our game! And thanks for the feedback! We'll make sure to apply more prompts in future projects.

I want a duck shirt like that

Cool game! I felt a bit disoriented at times but probably just due to mouse sensitivity. Felt like I had a clear direction with where I should go or what I should do! I fell in love with the skeleton model so much, reminded me of oldschool games. Awesome!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We were inspired by console gaming of the early 90s. We're glad that showed through!

Developer(+1)

"I want a duck shirt like that"
Hmmmmmmm...... I'll see what I can do ;P

Submitted(+3)

Love the idea! super fun, combat felt good and i like the diegetic health where your character turns red. Great work!

Developer(+2)

Thanks a ton! The character turning red is totally intentional... it's a feature 8^)

Submitted(+4)

Very much liked the duck on the back of the shirt, also kept running headlong into the walls, but still was lost in the labrynth.

Developer(+1)

THANKS!!! I like ducks.

Aw snap! Sorry you got stuck. Did you fight the skeleton? He drops an item that lets you see the right way forward for a short time.

The game has potential, that's for sure, however I'd say that the character controller is pretty stiff, and the combat system wasn't too exciting . The game fits the theme well and the various surprises took me off guard from time to time, I also liked the art style (though the last scene could have had better lighting, I know it's hard but yeah), as well as the the illusionist character, would have liked to hear more from him

I cri... I just... I cri T_T

Edit: I was just acting dramatic :) Shoulda been more clear on that, lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback @TheThirdWay Games! We'll be sure to improve those aspects in the future!

Submitted

I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to say that in a mean way lol, making character controllers is hard, especially in a 3d environment. With a few tweaks (like making the mouse sensitivity adjustable, because it was extremely high for me) it could be way better than how it is now

(+1)

Haha, sorry for coming off as dramatic. I really do appreciate the feedback. Its weird because some are saying the mouse movement is too tight while others are saying its too loose. I think in the future I'll give an option to control mouse sensitivity.

For real, thanks for your feedback and good luck this jam!

The design, mechanics, and graphics were good. The music was a bit repetitive though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks I'm glad you liked it! Our sound guy made the music from scratch during the jam while also juggling a full-time job and 2 different band's rehearsals and a few performances. So I'm personally really happy with the results given the time constraints.

Developer

Thanks for playing our game! Runestomper is a talented musician and we'll be sure to pass your feedback along to them! Be sure to check out more of their work here: https://runestomper.com/album-releases

It is a really cool game and it really was able to confuse me quite a few times... It was very fun to play and I loved every minute of it ^^ Keep up the good work :3

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!! I'm so glad you liked it!

(+4)

Very nice! Love the atmopshere

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We were really proud of our artist's work on the environment. He really brought life to our game.

How far did you get?

(+1)

I got through the entire game. I was hoping to find a different portal in the end. Walked around the forest for a few minutes lol

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

Developer(+1)

As the artist, It's my favorite part too. ;P

Submitted(+4)

It was a cool quick game. It was mysterious at first, and then I just continued getting confused and freaked out by the magician's labyrinth. Very well made! While playing my player became red all of a sudden and I wasn't sure what that meant though.

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for the review! Were you able to make it to the end?

The player becoming red sometimes when taking a hit is a known bug. We patched a number of bugs before release, and had to pick and choose our battles. We definitely want to patch it in the future!

Is there anything else you might change about our game?

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, I made it to the end while being red... and also the camera control was a little bit stiff, as well as the combat. I think you should focus on those for the future.

(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Good luck this jam!

Submitted(+4)

Cool idea and very well made. the NPC is also very nice.

Developer

The illusionist was our favorite too! We had a lot of fun with him. Glad you enjoyed our game!
If you were to change one thing about our game what would it be?

Submitted

I always wondered how much life i had left XD
But that is whining on a high level

Submitted(+4)

Damn the idea is really cool. The combat was a bit meh and it was kinda short but it is probably the most unique game I have played from this jam by far.

Developer

That's high praise! Tell us about your experience with combat. Too easy? Too hard? While combat wasn't the core focus for us this time around we definitely want to make it satisfying in the future!

Submitted(+3)

Camera is little wobbly, and makes remembering directions quite difficult, otherwise I enjoyed playing it, keep up the good work!

Developer

Yes, we tried to mitigate some of the issues that appeared in the webGL build with 3D camera movement. We'll work to remedy that in the future.

That aside, what did you enjoy about it? What else would you have liked to see in the game?

Developer(+1)

Just want to follow up on the camera issue. For the best experience we recommend using the downloadable version.

Submitted(+4)

I think the idea is very original, and with a little more work it can be a very attractive product, well done!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you! Our art direction was inspired by early 90s console gaming. Our team had a lot of fun with the concept. How do you think we could have improved?

Submitted

As improvements, I think that a pause menu or a player life bar would have been cool. I love the aesthetics!

Developer

Like the secret dialog at the end says: Full release coming 2035!

Skelly boi drank enough milk

Developer (1 edit)

They pack quite a kick, don't they?
Were you able to make it to the end?
We hope you enjoyed!

Developer(+1)

Calcium rich with deadly kicks!

Submitted(+4)

Skeleton kicked me to death. 10/10 would recommend

Developer

"Git dunk'd on!"
Hope you're able to give the game another try! We'd love for you to make it to the end!
Thanks for the review, Brad. Anything you would recommend for future releases?

Submitted(+1)

Biggest suggestion would be to get the animations flowing a little smoother. Although I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy holding down block and gliding around the map!

Developer

Indeed! We enjoyed the gliding as well; though not enough to make it a staple of future games. We thank you for your insight.
