Pretty good, maybe after game jam you could add animations to the shadows.

How does you game fit the theme?
The enemies are shadowpeople and aren't real and can't hurt you. All a figment of the players imagination, created by the stress of being alone deep in a forest.
The ending though, might suggest that in fact, nothing you're experiencing is real
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
We wrote all the code, but most assets aren't made by us, but they've been credited in the description and in the readme.

Wonderful eerie atmosphere! Loved playing through the creepy pixel graphics forest! Amazing job on this submission!
Great game. Rated it. The graphics are good and it relates to the theme. Pls check out my game as well if you dont mind - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-7/rate/1418152
Great game. I love horror games so I always appreciate a good jump scare haha the first time I saw "them" it got me good haha. Nicely done! I hope you'll check out my game as well! :)
Great game! I really like retro aesthetics. Fighting enemies with a flashlight is a very cool mechanic. Ambient sounds create a very disturbing atmosphere. I think that sprinting would be a nice addition to the gameplay. Overall, a very well-made game. Keep it up!
If you have a minute, please check my game too :)
I really hope you dont take this the wrong way... I did not like that at all!!! haha
It's incredible how many devs on here managed to get me to play a genre that I don't enjoy.
The nice retro look got my attention first and then when I felt like I needed fresh pants already (the first time I heard... them) I saw a glow in the distance.
I wanted to quit but I also had to find out if I could get there.
I'm sure you spent a lot of time designing your game and you did a really great job but I can proudly tell you that your game can be finished by just running, keeping one eye closed and quietly saying "no no no no no no please leave me alone"
Honestly this is the best type of feedback we could get on the game!
You're absolutely right! A lot of the designing went into level and atmosphere, and while planning a lot for great mechanics, we ended up with a simple one. Unfortunately, timeconstraints and covid (I'm still knocked out) got to us and we couldn't do exactly what we wanted, but we're still super proud of what we managed to make in a short amount of time
I also take the "I saw a glow in the distance" as a compliment :P I guess I did my job right!
Thank you for awesome feedback, this is super valuable! Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts, and also play the game! <3
Rated !!! would you kindly rate mine too!?, I'd really appreciate it if you do, Thanks!

Loved the creepy, unsettling atmosphere. You did a great job with the PS1-style graphics, and the sound design was very well done, too. Would have loved to see a bit more gameplay since I was so intrigued by the setting, but this is still really impressive for the time you had to make it!
This was pretty damn good. The graphics especially, the mood, and even the map you wandered were excellent. Even the theme helped make this even more mysterious.
The gameplay however fell a bit short. Not only was there only 1 type of shadowpeople, and as thus 1 type of non-threat, they also apparated through floors, which kind of broke the horror mood of it for me as I was laughing for them to come above the ground so I could vanquish them. Additionally, the road was long, so I kind of expected some kind of variation.
Other than that I enjoyed it, definitely one of the better done spoopier submissions. Even the title is spoopy.
Thank you so much, and thank you for the feedback!
Yeah we weren't able to do as much playtesting and bugfixing and tweaking as we wanted to, mostly due to time constraints and illnesses, but all of this feedback is super helpful! We'll take it with us untill next game (or tweak and update this one in the future, who knows
This is super helpful to a baby gamedev, thank you so much!
I'm a big fan of the graphics and I think the flashlight mechanic was really well executed!
Love it. Very spoopy. Don't think I've played a game with this mechanic since Alan Wake.
