How does you game fit the theme?
This game requires the player to switch back and forth between two characters to unblock certain obstacles to move forward.

To fit the theme of "You're Not Alone", I wanted to evoke a sense of helping and being helped by elements of the game, while preserving the agency of the player. I wanted the player to feel that while they might be alone, they can have faith that someone else is trying to find them as much as they're trying to find that someone.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
The assets (except for the font) and animations were done by me from a while back for a scrapped idea and had just been sitting in my library. The design, code, and music were done by me this week. The code is an Frankenstein adapted from many sources, but mostly written from scratch.

Amazing concept and beautiful art.
A bit tough to figure out in the beginning.

Level 2 was too long and    hard lol.

Thanks for playing!

Nice game! Love it! Beautiful art and a relaxing music... The level was a bit long though so it was a bit annoying if you die and have to replay everything... Good Job!

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback.

Very solid entry. Really like the twin swapping concept and I think it fits great with the theme.

The coherent art style and music effectively create a fun & cute aesthetic that sets a distinct tone for the game. I'm especially fond of the pixel art animations and background art.

Character controller also feels really nice which is a deal breaker in a lot of jam-entry platformers. Movement and jumping is smooth and satisfying. A pleasure to play with.

My only minor critiques mirror those of previous comments, notably the font (which had me squinting) and the character-swap camera pan which isn't so pleasant on the bigger levels.

All-in-all a great entry!

Editing to add that the scarves are adorable and a wonderful secondary motion for the animations!

Developer

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And yes the font will be the first to go!

This looks very nice. Characters are super cute and animations are also cool. Music is relaxing.

When I finished the tutorial level, I felt like it would be a puzzle game with a few small levels. But when I saw the second level, I was like "woah". IMHO it was too big xD.

Movement is good and responsive, however I would like to have a separate button to interact with buttons, because sometimes you just accidentally hit one and need to do it with another character to return back. It might be not a big problem, but the transitions are a bit slow-ish. Instead of showing every time what is exactly happening when you hit the button, maybe it is worth to show it only for the first time. Also for such a big level it would be nice to have a map of the whole level.

Overall, I think the level is too big. And when you need to backtrack back and forth, it would be much nicer to have more compact level

Developer

Haha, the art and music are too deceptive! I did intend for it to be a hard game, but I agree that if there were earlier smaller levels to ease into it it would've been less overwhelming. I'll definitely keep that in mind for my next project. Having a separate interact button is also a great idea and only showing the transition for the first time are great ideas. Thank you for your feedback!

Nice game! I love the art! nice gameplay mechanic too! it took me a while to figure out level 2 I think maybe one screen puzzles or maybe a shorter level could have helped introduce the mechanics. Otherwise awesome game!

Developer

Thanks for playing the game for a while and I'm glad you enjoyed the mechanic. I did intend the second level to be main game, and I kinda intended for the game to be a wide  expanse of exploration map, but it needs a lot more tuning!

Cool game, nice idea and great visuals!

Good execution of this innovative concept. Sometimes I wish the cutscenes for obstacle clearance were a bit quicker, but overall: great art, puzzles and fun.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Actually I even intentionally lengthened some cutscenes to make sure that the player knows that's unlocked, but sounds like that's probably not necessary. Thanks for your feedback. :)

This a cool idea and the game has a very cute art !

I would say that game would be less frustrating if we could swap between characters at anytime because a bump into a mecanism can involuntarily swap characters and slow us. Also it would be great to respawn near where we died with the character instead of retrying the level entirely.

Good job overall!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I think I need to improve on making sure that the player doesn't accidentally bump into the same button after being unfrozen. And I'll definitely think about adding a checkpoint mechanism too.

Cute game!

Your game looks so awesome! I really like the art style with the cute players / charaters  . Also the audio/musix/sfx was cool. However this is a good game but in the future for more projects or jams I think you should improve the UI by making the font more readable. Don't get me wrong this is a great game and a super cool submission. If you feel like helping out you could play my game or view other submissions from the low rating category. Its totally up to you and keep up the excellent game development.

Developer

Thanks for playing and the compliment! I agree with you on the font. It was a pretty last minute find (another reason not to leave UI to the last minute), but enough people have expressed the same view that it needs to be replaced the first thing after this game jam. :)

Cute game! Such cute characters! The music is very cool too, and the level is pretty!

I feel like the font is a bit hard to read though.

It feels a bit punishing to restart all over just for one missed jump.

It's a cute game anyway to congrat to you!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I realized after the deadline that some jumps should definitely be made easier, and maybe a checkpoint somewhere would've been nice.

I love this art! Beautiful game

THIS IS SO PRETTY! I can't believe you designed and made all this music in a week! love the twin theme, and puzzles are fun!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzles. Some of the sprites were actually from my archive so I didn't make them this week, I just edited my submission to be less misleading. I did make the music this week and for the first time in my life so I'm really glad people like it!

Submitted

Either way! it is amazingly beautiful. The music is masterful!! couldn't make that in a year if I tried! ^.^

WOW. This game looks BEAUTIFUL. The artstyle is so cute and the music is so relaxing! The characters look adorable and the levels have a very nice aethetic. I really like that you have to use buttons to switch characters in this game instead of just pressing a key on the keyboard. It adds more challenge and difficulty to the game.

Fantastic job on this game, it is the most beautiful game I've seen in the Jam yet!

Developer

Thank you for the high praise! I'm really glad you liked the art, music, and the button feature.

the art-style was great and very relaxing, the music tied it up nicely, I really liked the concept and there was some smart ideas with the puzzles. I did have some trouble reading the font on the menu, but it may have to do with my screen resolution. I which the camera panned a bit slower between characters on the bigger levels. Overall great game, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! That really highlights the importance of testing on different settings whenever possible. I did have concerns about performance of that big map but since it was okay on my computer I didn't think too much of it. A clearer font definitely would've helped!

Very nice pixel art and music !

Cool game. Rate mine too.

The gentle, slow music and a welcoming colour scheme gives this game a very relaxed, homely and wholesome vibe. I especially love how you use the buttons to switch between both characters, which gives an extra layer of challenge to the overall puzzle, because you have to be careful about which buttons you activate.

Good Job!

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the ambience and the button feature!

I love this art style. The soft colors in the background are beautiful and really pleasing to the eye and made the characters really stand out. The music also added to the vibe really well. The puzzles were tough but fair, and I loved how the big maps had you really thinking spatially and planning out where each character should go next. If I would change one thing, I think it would be nice if you could choose to interact with a button so it doesn’t get hit accidentally.

Really impressive work for such a short period, great job! My game is linked below if you’d like to give it a play.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I'm really glad to hear that you found the puzzles tough but fair as that's what I was going for. And thanks for the helpful advice about the button, I did accidentally press it a couple of times myself. Definitely something to improve next time.
