Hey there!
It was a very fun game.
I really liked the graphics, they looked neat!
The controls were tricky but I managed to get through an entire level!
And level 2 seems to be the same level but a different story line.
Was it on purpose that Vlad's cigarette smoke particles cover up the entire playing field lol?
Well done for a jam game! :)

How does you game fit the theme?
Choosing a character doesn't affect the gameplay. But it does affect the story.
Experience the level with all 5 players - each of them controls a different character.
Watch how each of them plays on their own, and experience his own life story.
However, as you go through th game you find out they're all connected, and each one effects the other.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes!
Comments
Thanks for playing and the positive comment!
Yes, it's on purpose that they cover up the screen, basically all 5 levels (not only the first 2) are the same platform-wise.
The difficulty (and the difference between the levels) comes from the story of the person who plays in the lower screen - which affects the platformer up top.
I see!
It's an interesting concept that there's always a person accompanying you and commenting, so that you're 'not alone', especially if it influences the game play.
Yeah that smoke particle is funny! That might actually be a fun idea also that you can jump on the smoke particles, maybe for another game.
Very interesting as a concept!
Really deep atmosphere, but the unpredictable controls really detracted from my enjoyment so much that I had to stop playing because I was getting very frustrated. It’s not that the game is difficult, the controls often feel unresponsive and overresponsive, it’s never just right. Have a look at this! https://gmtk.itch.io/platformer-toolkit
Hope you’ll adjust the controls so I can play the rest of the story!
Here’s also my play-through video… beware of frustrated gamer! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1585147542
The combination of the unsettling music, color scheme, backstories and how they were directed synthesized a really engaging atmosphere, making this game really addictive! I had a really good time playing through this one.
Some issues I had were that the stories ended too abruptly (no conclusion or whatsoever), some graphic inconsistencies (some sprite assets were much more artistically complex/simpler than others + blurry UI) and that I didn't understand your explanation on the theme too well.
As some have stated, the controller was indeed very sensitive and imprecise, but since I actually enjoy trial and error games, especially when you get rewarded as you get past the segments (with the continuation of the story, in this case), I didn't see it as a bad thing.
Great work!
I liked the idea and how it played differently with each person.
The graphics and audio were alright. The gameplay was nerve-wracking as the character seems too hard to control. It moved too fast and has some slide/rolling thing running with the physics. It also sometimes don't seem to jump when I pressed up. I'm not sure if it was just the lack of that coyote effect, but it seems like jump just didn't register. It came to a point where I wasn't paying much attention to the dialogue anymore.
I liked the intertwined stories, though I haven't read all of the prompts. The smoke part at the end from Vlad was just too hard due to not being able to see the character who already moved way too fast.
I think I bugged the game somehow, I did not understand how to finish Nick's arc, but at some point when the cellphone rang it just dropped me between the traps, alive. I just caught the last coin and it sent me back to character choice, but Nick's option had no time set, as if I didn't really finish.
It's an interesting experience, just needs a more reliable platforming!
Thank you for the detailed feedback! Much appreciated.
I do agree the platforming is quite hard, and the lack of coyote effect doesn't help that. I didn't think it would affect the attention to the story sadly, so I'll take that into consideration next time with story-driven games.
Regarding the last level, you're basically supposed to be stuck and keep falling for the trap until a special solution is met, it's here in the comments if you want to take a look (I don't want to write it again, to not spoil for others. If you want to take a look, lookup "SPOILER ALERT").
Glad you found it interesting and once again thank you for much needed feedback :)
Nice game, I like the simplest of the art style and the implementation, great job
I kind of adored every aspect of this game. The style, music, difficult platforms filled with disturbing material, and chats below were funny. Naturally, I tried each character. Would you mind rating my game if you wanted to? If not, you may assist others in need of a rating category. It's entirely up to you which option you make. Continue making entertaining games:)
Wow, that was amazing! The controls are a bit janky, but the story is really good, that's an awesome take on the theme! It's the first time I've seen such a storytelling in a game, that was incredible.
I think I cheesed the last level by landing between two of the flamethrowers because my final time was not registered, and it didn't feel like the solution... But I can't find a way to end the level. I even tried to shut down my wifi, which would have been a genius solution, but it did nothing x).
Can you give at least a hint of the solution, so I can see the end ^^?
Thank you very much for the kind words!
I'm even more glad that you kept playing until the end :)
SPOILER ALERT:
You were correct! Well done first of all, not sure how many kept playing until the last level and actually figured out the creative solution, so kudos to you.
In the Update method I keep checking for internet connection. If a connection is not reachable - the last message trigger is disabled and you can collect the coin simply like any other level.
It seems to work on my end, so perhaps you were somehow connected in a different way besides Wi-Fi?
I'm not sure, as it's a simple line of code so I don't think something went wrong there. But I might be wrong.
Anyway - Your solution was indeed the correct one, so the genius one here is you, and you can count that as a win if you ask me :)
That's a VERY interesting take on a puzzle platformer, I liked it, although I think the movement is a bit too snappy and fast, it's difficult to controll it, but that might well be intended so.
The story and characters were really fleshed out for a 7 day game jam entry. I liked to music too. You might want to refine the controls though.
I really like the story in this one. The audio and the little cutscenes make it great. Only thing I would change is the screen size and maybe slowing the player down a little bit. Other than that, Well done!
I kinda loved everything in this game. :) The style, the MUSIC, the challenging platforms with all the disturbing stuff, and the conversations below were hilarious. Of course I tried all the characters :)
If you have time and don't mind, check out our also story intensive game. :)
idk if you intented to allow rolling the cude. it was silly but fun haha
died serval times as it roll off the edge :'(
anyway i like the story
Really incredible story driven platformer
Pros: really cool interpretation of the theme, amazing storytelling, great artstyle
Cons: some of the sound design was a bit abrasive, It took me 4 tries to get the web version to work and the download for windows didn't contain an exe (seemed to possibly be a project folder instead?), I also found the controls to be very difficult and imprecise though that may be a matter of preference.
Overall incredible platformer that tells a really cool story and I love a game with a cute artstyle but a dark storyline.
