It is a horror game. There is spooky stuff. The AI is very, very aggressive and A-poses at you half the time, which takes a lot of the fun and immersion out of it, and I’m lowering the design score because this game is what you get if you swapped out Phasmophobia’s ‘identify the spirit’ mechanic for a ‘key hunt item find’ mechanic instead, and I value originality in game design. It could also use improved sound or perhaps some music.
Karen would not let me into the house, she stood by the door and gave me a death glare. I tried to explain I was from the moving company, but she did not care.
Needs more subtlety, and less headbutts to really build the scares.
I do appreciate that what items you need for a stage are randomized though!
itch.io won't let me download this game, its the only one that the download won't start for.
Good concept but the gameplay just didn't felt good to me. I like the idea of retrieving things from haunted houses and I really think you can build something great on that idea. It felt a bit slow entering the House and searching for things. The ghost was more funny than scary to me, but maybe I watched too many horror films. Don't be discouraged and keep going, like I said the idea is very cool behind this one.
Theme: Kind of spooky, but the effect was muddled by lack of ghost animations and camera clipping issues.
Fun: Find and bring items while being chased is a good core mechanic. The sprint should be more noticeable, and you should be able to outpace the ghosts or have some other means of escape. Ghosts having colliders and bodyblocking you from leaving rooms and/or ramming you into corners for a quick restart wasn't too fun. Having some way to scare the spooks away or being able to tell that they are coming with sufficient time to hide could also help
Game Design: Overall, a good idea that has some performance and gameplay issues. There are probably too many dynamic light sources in the game scene, as the menu scene (level select) works like a charm. You should remove colliders from some objects that you can pick up, as dropping them and stepping on them can launch you. The camera clipping could be an issue with the near clipping plane (I don't know UE that well to tell), but it deffinetly hinders the experience near walls or the ceiling. I also had a problem between the "use" and "pick up" keys (at first I was confused why I couldn't get the flashlight) - try and have as few controls and possible, merge some if neccessary.
Regardless, this is a very presentable game and after a few fixes I'd love to revisit it and play it through.
This game has a horror theme, and it's scary, until you see the monster, which sort of ruins the scare. In terms of enjoyment, the game feels choppy with low frame rate, (regardless of hardware), although it brings a decent concept. It is a little hard though, and I felt the ghost was too fast. The game looks pleasing, but is a little glitchy. I liked how everything was random so you could replay the game. Overall it is a great game that needs some polishing.
Thanks for your review. Any ideas for in the future to make the monster better :D? Did you know that you can sprint (left shift)? Because in that case you can outrun the ghost
Thanks for your review! Sadly I wasn’t able to fix the low framerate and camera clipping in time, :(. Do you have suggestions to make a better monster?
Hi! I'll rewrite me review to include this feedback, as I'm doing for all other entries - apologies for this lazy review, I'll make a better one :)
10/10 for the horror theme! Couldn't finish the job because I couldn't figure out how not to die since the ghost always moves as fast as me :) Also noticed a few issues with the AI pathfinding especially around doors. Apart from that, the fact that needed items are randomized potentially makes for great replayability. Good concept overall, enjoyed my time as a ghost mover!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game! I forgot to post that you can sprint by holding the shift key :/ The pathfinding is indeed a bit buggy with the doors, it likes to get stuck sometimes haha
Ah the sprinting was so subtle I didn't even notice, but it does make a difference, thanks for letting me know :D
ok this game is really good, its really really scary, the ghost is really lame tho, makes no noise and just floats at you. the walking speed is stupidly slow, you would think the in game character would want to get in n out a lil faster then crawling. but all in all a really nice and well made game, definetely a good base for a full game.
Thanks for your review! I am glad you found the game scary :) Do you have any suggestions for make the ghost better? I forgot to mention in the description that you can sprint (shift key), thus should make the game a bit easier if the ghost is close to you ;)
