I'm an average joe :)
I was really impressed with the art, music, and gameplay. I'm also pretty please with myself that I beat it. Good job!
Mechanically solid, and fun to play! Definitely enjoyed raging at the jumps! Needs a stronger theme tying though
You know, sometimes I do like games like these. They really test me and my patience and I'm glad that I made it to the end. Some of these traps felt a bit unfair at first but since you have that quick respawn and checkpoints it's fine. Nice athmosphere, tight gameplay and I like the retro feel.
The way the traps work is on the 4th frame of the animation it checks if the player is still in the collider and kills you if you are, you you have 3 frames to escape the traps after triggering them. I've been thinking that maybe instead of making every single gravestone a trap, to only make certain ones instant death traps and have it be a memory, trial and error type game, more along the lines of I wanna be the Boshy. Thank you so much for your comment! I did all the artwork as a first pass, never touch again, as fast as I could style so I'm surprised so many people enjoy it!
i personally hate rage games, especially platformers with a passion, and this one is no exeption, i will rate you fairly for the great art and sound but i wont give any feedback becouse it would all be negative.
Give I wanna be the boshy or I wanna be the guy another shot! This game is designed to have 3 frames to escape the traps, boshy and the guy aren't so kind. If I were to further develop this I would steer more towards that type of memory, trial and error based game play and add a story and probably replace the blob being the main character. Thank you for your comment! I had so much fun with this game and playing and rating everyone's games!
Spooky little game, VERY clean and solid gameplay. The theme is spooky, but it isn’t horror - it’s more like Halloween-themed. It’s not a horror game, but it is a good game!
Thank you for your comment! VERY clean game play?! :D You're too kind!
The most horrifying thing about this game is my utter lack of competence when it comes to jump & run games :) The art style is great, very sleek animations... great job for just one week.
Cheers! I have so many ideas for ways I could have made this game more horror-ish and wish I had added some story but overall I had a blast this game jam!
A platformer rage-game. Not my thing, but I can appreciate the pixel art. One comment I got during streaming is that it's not super clear what can and what can't kill you - I was surprised the flowers did that to me. Also the limited visibility makes it a lot harder for a scrub like me - maybe that's intentional, but limits the audience by a bit in the game jam.
I only added the darkness to better fit the theme of the jam. The traps all kill you on the 4th frame of the animation, so for the flowers thats when the pollen hits the ground, I should have made an animation for the player to be covered in a bit of pollen when you die to the flower to show that its the dust thats deadly. I almost want to steer the game towards instant death traps and trial and error game play, then it better fits the rage platformer style. Thanks for your kind comments!
Nice work! The game is not scary but it is horror themed :)
However, you don't tell the player anything really. Luckily I'm used to playing games, so jumping with space and moving with WASD is something I always do, but if someone else who doesn't play alot of games tries to play this, they might be confused.
Also, there is no indication of what is dangerous and what isn't. At first I didnt think the roses were dangerous because they didn't consistently kill me, but then they started killing me sometimes...
And the darkness around the whole screen just makes the player jump forward and hope for the best, and then you jump into a rose or a gravestone and just die, without the game teaching you that they're dangerous.
I actually think this game would be much better without all the darkness, it would probably be a great rage game if you could see the entire screen. But right now, it just feels extremely unfair playing it.
I read this comment and we still had a 20 hour extension on the jam to resubmit, so I took advantage of the jam extension and took several of your comments to heart. I added a 4th checkpoint towards the end of the game back in, I lightened up the darkness a bit, and I added some basic instructions to the title screen. After seeing every game submitted to the jam and the voting criteria, there are several more changes I could have made to make this better fit the theme and give the player a bit of a backstory, but alas, that is why its a jam. Thanks for your comment! It was most constructive and I hope it gives you joy to know you had a direct impact on the final state of my entry! Cheers!
