Nice rpg. If you can fix the sprite collisions, it would become even better.

The main character animation is so cool! I love the ears movement while he is walking.

Submitted(+3)

I love the cast you have, and the character art/animations made me laugh

Not much to add that other commenters haven't, other than in the tile set I love the trees, but the pathway looks a little too puffy/3D as though it is a wall.

Cozy game with a quirky cast of interesting characters! As some of the other commenters have noted, the collision and movement are the biggest issues for me, but I still enjoyed my time playing! Nice job, and good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! I very much enjoyed making Race's goofy characters come to life haha.

Very cute characters and an overall cozy vibe. I like the characters. One thing I'd look into is the technical implementation as the bounding box for Cath doesn't really fit to the perspective, i.e. I would get stuck with my head a lot unexpectedly. Also, the dialogue didn't really fit a natural progression of the player knowledge at times - at first, I just know I'm looking for something and then I speak to another character and it's suddenly about pumpkin soup. But for the scope of a jam, these are minor issues and the result is still a very enjoyable game!

All of my cat dreams have come alive thanks to this game. Thank you!

So cute! Love all the cat puns and cute characters!

Thanks for the kind words! Making all the characters was probably all of our favorite parts (even when my designs were hard for the artists lul)

Nice work-- right from the start I liked the music in this game, and the music together with the falling leaves did a nice job of setting the autumn tone.  The dialog system was also nice and worked well with the options, etc., and I thought the story nicely expressed the feeling of trying to help someone who is ill and sometimes feeling helpless at it.  You've received some good feedback from others; I'm a Unity user and it looks like this might be Godot, but you might look into either sorting layers on sprites or transparency settings on the camera so that your player can walk "in front of" and "behind" your trees and other objects depending on the relative Y positions of each, which will allow you to shrink the size of the colliders considerably.   Nice work!

I am glad you enjoyed the game! Thank you for your feedback!

Thanks for the feedback, I am still learning Godot, as i have never used it before this jam, and I am still teaching myself programming with this being my second game, so there are some obvious bugs. I spent a lot of this project simply assembling everything that I was sent, as i've never worked with a team, so this was definitely a good learning experience for me haha. Next time i would like to spend more time actually getting to program, and less time doing other things haha

Thank you for playing - and I'm very glad you liked the music!

ok Im gonna throw my two cents here first of I like the game the quirky anthropomorphic characters and they all had fun and intresting dialogue the quest system was cool tbh at the end it did felt like a fetch quest(minor complaint) also one BIG complaint I have is that there is no omni directional movement idk if its intentional or not since there are no UP and DOWN sprites but omni direction should be here regardless its easy to implement too maybe its intentional idk but I think it should be implemented, the collision is also pretty weird I got softlocked on a tree and a pond which made me almost quit since I was at the end also I would just press the interact button randomly far from npcs and the dialogue would still trigger another big complaint is that the full screen of the web version dosent work so I downloaded the windows version and on full screen the artwork is streched tbh I like everything about this game like the characters and the simple plot but I want it to have a bit of polish like the collision and the movement but overall I loved the game even though I addressed a laundry list of problems but I loved it. I want this game to really succeed and so hopefully most of these problems would be fixed in a update if you guys want to do one or maybe try to not repeat the same mistakes for your next game Good Job.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed the game! Yeah we really bit off more than we could chew this time, but fingers crossed we're gonna be more reasonable and well organised for our next jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! I made the sprite for Cath (MC) and originally we were going to do the front and back-facing sprites but decided against it because we liked the look of the side sprites. I will definitely take your comments into consideration for future designs!

Great job on this overall. It reminds me of the google doodle Olympic games game. The collision boxes for the player was a little annoying cause I kept bumping into signs and other things. I think I might have soft-locked myself somehow cause I got the quest to talk to the seagull but he won't say anything. I had gotten the peanuts and given them to the red panda before I ever interacted with him, who pointed me to the fox who also basically has nothing to say to me.

Another few  improvements that could be made are the tiles don't quite line up in some places and the transition areas could be delineated a little more since it is impossible to tell if you can walk from one map to the next, it seems like there's a few places I should be able to but I can only go north from the starting area. Lastly with the chat system the skip button being the same as choose an option is a little annoying as well due to trying to skip to the end of the dialogue so I can read faster and accidentally picking an option when I didn't mean to.

Anyway good job putting the chat system together, I wanted to do the same for my game but it's a big undertaking and you did a good job. I also liked the text animation touch in some places.

Developer

Thank you for playing, and thank you for your detailed feedback! I believe our dev, RaceAce, is planning on a post-jam bug-fix update, so some of the issues you mentioned may be resolved :] We're glad you enjoyed it!

Developer

Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed the game!

Just to clarify, with the issues regarding the tiles, is it more so to do with the tileset itself and how it looks that can cause things to look accessible when they are not, or more an issue with the map layout?

There just seemed to be some parts where the tiles themselves weren't lining up an example is where the edge of the water is, I also noticed the other thing you were talking about of it not being clear whether or not you could continue or not but here's a snippet:

As for the transition areas, I mean this:

Doesn't look traversable but it takes you to a whole other map. Given that:

This seems like it should take me to another map as well, however it either doesn't or I didn't progress far enough for it to allow me to.

Otherwise yeah there were some parts that some areas seemed like I was just not able to go there but I managed to wiggle through some gaps, still got stuck eventually:

One such example in the northern map to the west side:

The bush below and to the left of me is passable, that's how I got back here.

Developer

Ah, thank you for clarifying! This was a pretty big project, with it being the first game jam for several of us, so hopefully we’ll iron things out next time :D

It’s a super cozy game! I enjoyed exploring the surroundings and searching for a cure for grandma. The music and visuals together create the perfect atmosphere for the autumn quest! PS: I got stuck between trees a few times while wandering in the wild but managed to get out eventually.

Thank you for playing, and we're so glad you enjoyed it! (And I'm glad you liked the music, haha!)

I enjoyed the colorful cast of characters this game features.

The collision with environment features behaved a little strange, and anywhere I went I found I had to feel may way through the environment. In fac,  I managed to hard lock myself by getting stuck between colliders.

There were some esoteric jokes that I did not get, but I still enjoyed discovering them. I was a little spooked that the time on the clock tree matched the time on my computer clock when I saw it, but I never confirmed whether it updated if I stayed longer.

All and all I had a cozy and fascinating journey through this game. Thank you so much for making it!

We're so glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for playing! I believe RaceAce, our dev, was able to figure out what was causing the issues with the colliders, and may be planning a post-jam bug fix! Thank you greatly for your feedback :]

I love to hear that! You can count on me to give it a second try at some point :)

Loved that little penguin guy! Great work :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! And who doesn't love an adorable penguin??? Especially one that dances!

I feel like the introductory text runs automatically a little too fast, especially since this is our first introduction to this world and these characters. And some indicator of when the player is expected to interact to advance to the next screen in that introductory scene would be great! As well as some icon in the textboxes telling the player that they can advance dialogue if they do. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors in dialogue but that is minor. There is some antialiasing with the font in the menus which looks a bit off. 8 directional movement for player would have been nice as well. There are some awkward spots with collisions which I saw you got some comments on already. I got stuck between a green and red tree (to the right of the house with the bird) and could not continue the game I had to start over.

Great work on the art, it has fantastic direction and perfectly encapsulates the cozy theme. The mystery aspect is nice as it lends into the tropes of such while also maintaining that cozy feeling. The character animations and sprites are really charming, esp the penguin is my fav. I liked the dialogue. You say you wanted to make something to be proud of, PLEASE be proud of this! This is amazing! Kudos to you, well done!!! Can't wait to see what you do next

Developer

Thank you for playing, and thank you for your detailed feedback! I believe our dev, RaceAce, is planning on having a post-jam bug fix update to address the issues with the colliders and some other bugs we found :) We're so glad you enjoyed it, and I agree our artists did amazing! They took the cozy theme and ran with it for sure!
