Handpainting game art is such a legend move, yall knocked it out of the park! This game is so cute and cozy, I really enjoyed playing it :)

Also, cool to see I'm not the only one who tried Godot for this jam!

This game is absolutely stunning! I ended up accidentally sequence breaking the game a few times, but I loved piecing everything together! Absolutely amazing artwork as well, and some lovely music and sfx! (especially the grass)

But I can't pet any of the animals so uh sorry 0/10 (joke)

This is a very sweet game! I love the unique artstyle and the writing is very wholesome! Great work :D

Nice game! the graphics are adorable. great job!

Wonderful art and music! Super impressive to see that it's all hand-painted work! Great work!

The visuals are such a treat, very distinct and just fitting for the overall atmosphere of the game. It made me want to stay with the game and meet all the characters as well as explore the forest. The technical implementation seemed solid but I did experience a crash in the end as well as some out of order dialogue when I got the notebook. Also, I felt that the walking speed was rather slow. These things aside, to me this is an outstanding entry that I greatly enjoyed. Good job!

Absolutely loved this! A great example of focusing on something small and simple and knocking it out of the forest (haha!) I adore the artstyle - perfectly encompasses the cozy theme! There were a couple things that I noticed that could be improved, though. First, (game audio guy, couldn't help but notice this one haha) I think the footsteps sound you had was a bit too 8-bit for the look of the game, which took me out of the immersion at first (not completely, though!). I think reworking it to better pair with the visuals would do wonders for upping your immersion factor.  I also noticed that when going through the dialogue, there isn't an option to skip to the end of the typing effect and read the whole message, causing me to accidentally miss quite a few dialogues when doing so out of habit (yes, I am a serial text-effect skipper haha - I blame Pokemon).

This next one is a bit of a 2-for-1 haha. So, I was trying to see if there was a pause menu or anywhere to see current quests and objectives when I hit the Tab key and realized it basically skips through the audio? It seems to reset or flip between ambiences and mess with the music as well. I assume this is something that was left over from testing, just found it by accident haha! I do highly suggest adding some sort of quest tracker, as the nature of games like this can often get people turned around and forget who needs what and in what order. It's not as big of a deal for a game this size, but something to keep in mind as it can be super easy to get turned around without one.

Final thing I noticed is just a little collision issue with the market stall and holdable objects. The objects seem to clip through the market stall when you're holding them, which looks a little funny but isn't a big deal by any means.

Overall, you folks did amazing. It's a genuine shame there aren't more ratings on this! The art, music, story - it's genuinely fantastic, especially considering you did this all within a 2-week jam, finished early, and everything was HAND PAINTED. Genuinely one of the coolest things I've ever seen. If you guys ever make more stuff together in the future, I will absolutely be playing it. 10/10.

Thanks for the detailed analysis!
I feel like you've been snooping on my team. You are spot-on, lol!

•Yes, the walking sound is not 100%, we re-did it 3 times, but ran out of time to get it exactly how we wanted.
•I didn't know about the tab thing, but I think you are right, it was probably leftover from someone testing.
•A completed game would definitely have some sort of journal or tracker, and an in-game menu and auto-saving. But we really were focusing on getting the core game loop working well.
•All items held are in front of everything else currently. I figured it was important to know what you are carrying, and it was a better bug than the clipping in-front/behind the player character with every step. Proper Z layer changes with items are also on the docket.

For sure! Getting walking sounds right can be deceptively difficult, so I totally get you there. Even worse is you can't really tell how it fits until it's in-game, so I can definitely understand how you ran out of time haha.

I think the core gameplay loop you have is great! The whole thing feels like a story-book and is something you could probably expand pretty easily, should you want too.

And you're definitely right that being able to see what you're holding, rather than it be hidden behind everything, is a much better problem haha - I genuinely only noticed it around the market stall, so it's a very small issue from what I've seen.

The art and the music and the game perfectly fit together. Congrats to the whole team for this game.

This artstyle is marvelous! And the story is really really cute, I love it! You guys did a great job assembling it all together! There is a thing tho, some quests were starting before I went to the designated area, so it was a lil difficult to catch up on the story. This didn't have any negative impact on the playthough! Keep up the good work!

I love this game! There’s tons of stuff you could do the improve this after the jam to make it feel more complete but it’s really great as is! I agree with another about varying quests but we only had so much time to make the game and the art is especially great.

Amazing jam game and criminally underrated

The art is so fantastic in this game! Really great work! The story was cute and sweet and everything felt very cozy, especially the music, that was really good too! There are a few tiny graphical issues that can be easily ironed out when the jam is over, its a fantastic little game, you should develop it further after the jam ends. I would vary up some of the quests a bit if you were to continue development, fetch and return quests can get repetitive so maybe a few simple mini games thrown in and do something with that giant pumpkin. Great game!!!

Submitted(+1)

Whoa I just clicked on the screenshot of the art... Those are all hand painted?!?! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Developer

Good ideas!
We had originally slated a mini game or two, but cut down to focus on the basics.
The idea for the giant pumpkin was from my 6 year old! Probably for some future easter egg, or extra conversations.

Man I adore the art style so much! The fact that someone made the assets hand drawn is incredible! Really makes the game stand out! I also enjoyed the story and found some of the interactions to be cute. Overall I think this game has a lot of quality and effort put into it, only suggestion I would have is to increase the player's speed a bit as walking from point-A to point-B took a while. Incredible job!

such a cozy vibe, its like stepping into a painting or a children's picture book

Developer(+1)

Oddly enough, our artist has illustrated 2 children's books, although what was required for the game was significantly different

The game was stunningly good. I waited for it so hard. The art, game and narrative design, music were well done. Found 1 or 2 bugs in the path, but nothing that would prevent me to reach this amazing ending (no spoil)!! You gotta play!!

Submitted(+1)

What a fantastic submission! The characters and dialogue are incredibly charming and it has without a doubt one of the most unique art styles I've seen in this jam. While playing it I was filled with comfy feelings of nostalgia for the children's picture books I'd have read to me as a child, which is a theme this game captures perfectly.  June in particular is so cute and cuddly looking you just want to reach into the screen and hug him! The only major gripe I have is that the orthogonal movement is very slow so I spent the entire game walking diagonally. If you ever make a game akin to this again whether it be in the form of a game jam or full, paid game I'd definitely check it out!

Developer

Thank you! Praise from you is high praise indeed!
I totally want stuffed animals of our characters.

this was amazing! I loved the controls!

Submitted(+1)

Such a beautiful game! And a charming story with a happy ending. :) Only thing I would have changed really was making the player speed faster. It felt frustratingly slow. But other than that I loved this! What a wonderful world to be immersed in. I hope you expand and build on this after the jam. :)

Well done to everyone on the team, especially your artist!

i absolutely love the way the player moves and turn and everything it's so cute!! (the movement speed could be a bit faster on the horizontal/vertical axis though) the characters are lovely, the sfx and music are great, and of course the art is outstanding.

it was really fun to play this cozy little game after seeing the progress on the discord, congrats to everyone!
