This game is a masterpiece, congratulations to the three devs for making a so well-rounded game. The art is impeccable, the story has also been developed and the mechanics introduced would be enough for a campaign of several hours, but the strongest point is the animations, I also couldn't help but notice the inspiration from Undertale in some parts.
Thank you for the kind words. And yes, boughgough is definitely a Flowey-inspired character.
This is just so good. Between the art, the music and the writing, it tells a really nice story, like genuinely. One of my favorite games for sure in this jam. You style is great, and the presence of a few characters makes the world seem alive. Good vibes for sure!
Got the sad ending first i guess i didn't think enough for the choice ;-;
but i played again for the other ending lol.
Ggs for that game!
(oh also you can bug inside a wall when going to the dream world lol)
Thanks! Wait I can't believe we didn't check what would happen if you're inside one of the walls in the other world while switching... sorry for that oversight.
Great take on the theme.
My feedback for Daydreamer:
What your game does well:
Your game's art is cohesive. No asset felt out of place.
The controls are simple, and don't ask much of the player. This allows them to enjoy the story that the developers want to tell. The ending is a moment players can relate to.
The gameplay is a brilliant execution of the theme 'inside out', tying the setting and the puzzles together.
Dialog felt paced and legible, despite the use of the star-themed font. It worked in the game's favor.
What your game doesn't do well:
I have a hunch that the 'Z' key was chosen to return Ashley to the real world because of the letter Z's association with sleeping and coffee by extension. From a controls standpoint this is could be uncomfortable for the player's left hand at times.
At the end when Boughdough begins to cry, it could have a lot more impact. Right now it falls short of its full potential because the player doesn't spend a ton of time with them to be emotionally attached.
Areas of Opportunity:
This is the first game I've played in the jam that left me wanting more. More puzzles, more tension between Ashley and her boss., etc.
It's great start for a project, and it has a lot of potential to be a bigger, scalable project. You have all the core components, it's just a matter of building and combining them.
I hope this feedback helps!
The game is definitely incomplete, yes. We had several pages of dialogue and sprites for other characters, as well as more puzzle designs, but we ran out of time to implement them ultimately. Sorry about that.
I think that's great, though! This is a really solid prototype, and one of my top rated for this jam. The fact that you have so much more to implement means you all can continue this project.
No need to apologize. I'm @salsero on Discord if your team ever wants to talk games.
I really enjoyed this game! On my first attempt I got stuck in a room without the box. Maybe you could add a feature to reset objects somehow or something.
Other than that, one of the best games of the jam.
Regards
Really enjoyed this! I did have to start over because I accidentally got the shelf stuck on the corner of the room, but it's a minor complaint. The writing, graphics, sound, concept, puzzles were all top-notch.
I wouldn't worry about the hitching, it seems to be an issue with Godot loading in particles/shaders for the first time in a web build. My last game got hit with it too. Fingers crossed they can solve it in the next release.
Great job!
Thank you for playing and for giving us feedback! The only solution to the lag spikes from particles that I know (which I have previously used, just not in this game due to time constraints) is to render them all at the start of the game or at some loading point. It's a bit of a clunky solution and I do hope they add a fix to that in later versions. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
Great tip! Thanks for that. I suppose it'll add a few seconds to the initial load time but worth it if it stops the stuttering.
Fantastic graphics and enjoyed the relaxing gameplay, story was a nice length, performance was a bit up and down but was prewarned and playable so can't complain.
One of the best game I've played so far in this Jam.
The graphics are just TOP TIER, this is VERY HIGH quality work. Every other aspects such as Audio, concept and the theme approach are just great.
=> The only area of improvement I see is there not enough pure gameplay but that's a very subjective point of view. But that's forgived due to the huge work you did on every other aspects.
Congrats!!!
You’re absolutely right about the gameplay. We had several other NPCs with sprites and dialogue and a few puzzle designs we would have liked to implement, but in the end we unfortunately ran out of time.
Good art, and suitable music. Impressive work!
and that was quite an ending.
Such a beautiful experience! The art for the reality, dream world, and the characters were great. My personal favorite is how drastic the music changes when you switch between planes. When I first got into the dream realm, the music immediately got me immersed! I did had a instance where I accidently push a crate to a wall and I was unable to get it out and I was stuck from it. Besides that, it was a really nice entry!
A beautiful and finished game, though I'm stuck in one of the rooms where I can't get out) The drawing is a bomb !
Good luck with further projects)
Thanks! I do recommend resetting the game and getting to the ending, as that’s one of the things we’re most proud of.
I can't believe this short game jam game made me so emotional at the end. Amazing work on this though! The style reminds me of old flash games I used to play, but much more polished. The swapping mechanic between worlds and the puzzles were really well done. The game feels very polished, and the only "bug" I ran into was a long pause after completing the cabinet on the pressure plate puzzle. All of the elements work well together to make a cohesive, fun to play game.
Good Game!
Thanks so much! :)
Beautiful design, idea and graphics! Well done!
Thank you very much! We greatly appreciate it. ^^
Incredible polish! Art and sound design are amazing! The cutscenes and transitions are great and I could really relate with the main character! Excellent submission!
Great job guys. I loved the cast of characters and their art. I did get stuck on one of the puzzles at first and had to reset. Not sure if there was a way out of this.
Oh dear, I haven’t seen that happen before. Definitely a bug. Glad you enjoyed the rest, in spite of that 😅
yeah this is the one i was talking about 😅
This is practically professional work! the whole thing has immense levels of polish put into it, with a bit more work this could turn into a commercial game! i love the interactions with the NPCs one side note, i got softlocked in the second room, maybe have a coffee there
everything about this game is really well done, the music fits it perfectly and i’m confused on how did you make all of this art in a weekend and a bit more (AND [small] CUTSCENES?!?!)
overall: 9/10
My secret is barely getting any sleep :P. Sorry about the softlock, how exactly did you do that? We didn’t have much time for playtesting so some things may have slipped past.
i went to the dream world when the door was locked (the room with the eye creature), i went to the dream world and had no way back
i bet you could make better games with sleep :)
