How does your game fit the theme?
A Whole Life's Worth of Time~
Did you use any assets?
Aside from the font & whatever I didn't change of GB Studio's template, everything made from scratch.

This was beautiful! Instead of playing a game, it was like reading a comic during my daily ride (which I also like to do). The subtle use of colors in different spots was really nice. I felt for the different people, and it made me think of favorite trees in my life that I really do have emotional attachments too as well. Here's a photo of the game on a Game Boy Color. I have a higher resolution version that I would be happy to email you.
Absolutely I will! You're next on my list thanks to your kind words!
I really like the original use of the Game Boy, for this project, even if some people will ask the question of "game or book", I would say that it is a reading game ;) . It deserves a nice little soundtrack, but maybe it's a choice not to put one ? Can I know the software with which you made the drawings? 160x144 pixels I guess? Thanks for this original project, and good luck :) .
Thanks for playing.
Not having audio wasn't much of a choice as I don't have a good experience with sound design nor I have any person to help with making/adding BGM to a GB Studio.
For the graphics, I drew them normally with drawing apps and converted them to GB style pixel art using this tool: http://yrlab.zatunen.com/webgl/gbpic/gbpic.html
I wish I had a real Game Boy, if it's not too much to ask can you take a photo of any of the screens with characters on them? I'd like to show how it looks in a real Game Boy device to a friend.
No problem to take one or more pictures with the characters, I'll send it to you later today. Just it's a Game Boy DMG with IPS screen, so it's not the real screen of the original Game Boy :) .
For the musics, I made myself my first ones for my game of the Jam, and that requires really a lot of time, so if you need one for a future game, or even to complete this one, don't hesitate to contact me I could make one for you ;) .
I also know GB pic since very little time, but it's true that it's a practical software, even if I make mine with GIMP, with the Game Boy dedicated color palette ;) .
Ah, I didn't notice it was an emulator. Thanks for the images. It looks real, but now after you told me, yeah, it's not actual GB footage.
Can I have your permission to share these images on social media? (I can link to your page if you want.)
GB Pic is really practical... I haven't tried to make sprites in it yet, only backgrounds, but I think it could work for that too! (I can do pixel art, but it's easier to make detailed art the way I did.)
Thanks for the suggestion about music. I can't pay you, and I haven't decided if I really want to have BGM in here, but can I have you as an option to ask if I decided in the future?
No problem to share my images of course :) .
For the music it was of course a voluntary proposal, so without payment ;) .
I'll try to make a music that I'll see fit to your game before the end of the week, and I'll send it to you, if you don't like it don't use it I'll keep it for one of my future projects, no problem ;) .
I give you my mail : jhumberset@gmail.com , send me a mail telling me you are the creator of "I look around" and I will send you this ;) .
Thank you very much, after you send it to me I'll tell you whether I decided to use it or not.
Give me your email or send me one to mine so I can get yours. That I send you my prototype ;) .
I very much enjoyed the story :) It is nice to have a more emotionally touching entry in the jam.
The drawings were all very nice as well! How did you go about drawing it? I'm assuming you made a digital illustration and then converted it to the proper resolution for GB?
Glad you liked it... I got emotional while writing it (by the end,) so I'm happy that it touched you~
The drawings were normally drawn in an app, then converted to pixel art via this tool: http://yrlab.zatunen.com/webgl/gbpic/gbpic.html
Nice story, liked it. Good artwork. Could be less linear - I was just clicking A repeatedly.
Thanks for reading... This one is intentionally linear, though I understand that it might make it boring to some people. Glad you liked the artwork~
Really nice story, i enjoyed it!
Thanks for playing~ Glad you enjoyed it.
It was a cool story, you got some emotions out of me. It took ma too long to figure out who I was, lol.
Glad it brought emotions out of you~
While I wrote that it's a story about a Tree on the game's page. I tried to make it as ambiguous as possible in the game/story itself until you connect the clues. I always wanted to make a game like this, (with a Tree as the protagnist,) glad this Jam gave me the opportunity.
i'm not much of a visual novel guy so i can't say much about this. theres certainly a consistant art style here and its presented quite nicely.
however, i would have liked to see some kind of sprite effects in certain scenes to make it look a bit more lively. maybe some rain or beams of sunlight that flicker? light effects are easy. just draw an angled line/bar and set it to 60 fps in the scene. in the sprite editor, make one frame of the light beam, and one frame without.
this concludes my analysis of this entry.
I was so focused on finishing these drawings on time, that animations never crossed my mind at all... Thanks for this analyisis, and the simple way you suggested to add movement to the rain. I'll see what I can do to improve it.
I love this! "I look around, and absorb the beautiful art. I am happy. " "I read the story. I am happy"
I try to write this story only in the present tense.
I am happy about the result.
I look around for your comments.
