Wow, this was fantastic! Addictive, even, to try to get a higher score! I've been playing most of these on GBC but I think this one actually looks, and definitely sounds, better on a DMG. I like seeing JH10's posts with actual hardware, so here's another one.
Great job!
An excellent arcade game, the games are really short, I still managed to make 825 pts! The rotating system is well designed, but the bugs come a bit too fast from the start. The stone system is well done to avoid spinning by spamming the button! nice achievement :) .
Pretty fun arcade experience! I definitely wouldn't have been able to make something like this.
I'm really bad at shmups but always enjoy playing them, which kind of sums up my experience playing your game (my high score is about 350). The circular movement is a quite unique game mechanic, I haven't really seen this before. Great music and fitting sound effects.
Really cool to see an entry made with a dev kit I wasn't aware of.
I say Yes ! A little to hard for me.
I like the art of this game, the cover looks really good! Played this in school today and it was very fun!
Very cool game! Interesting to see something made with GBSDK - it looks very impressive to me. The circular movement is a sweet find and it works well. It offers quite a challenge to keep alive but not in a frustrating way. The graphics are nice and balanced.
Fun stuff!
The controls felt great, the circular movement and the teleporting were sweet, although I found that using the teleporter quickly became more of a hinderance than a help with all of the enemies/obstacles around (maybe I just need to git gud though).
The only thing that was a bit wonky for me was the hit boxes. There were a few times that I was surprised I died because I thought I had enough space between the bug and I. Understandably, with a bug's sprawling features, it makes it tough to fit that design neatly into a defined square hit box, especially when the movement is not on a strict tile grid either.
My highscore was mid 600's I think? I actually feel differently than GumpyFunction on this one; the difficulty rise doesn't feel too tedious to me in the beginning. While it is slower at first, it still holds my interest since I want to see just how fast I can wipe out the freshly spawned bugs before they can get to the outer perimeter.
Also, don't get me wrong, I love GB Studio, but it's nice to see a game made through different means! Nice work.
Thanks for the feedback! That's a good point about the hitboxes. The trouble is, making them smaller also makes the enemies harder to hit with bullets, so it's a bit of a balancing act. Though, now that I think about it, I could modify the collision system so enemy-bullet collisions use different boxes from enemy-player ones. Hmmm...
Oh that sounds awesome! It's already a very fun title so I think that an addition like that would make it even better :D
Great game for a 7 day jam! I found it to be quite satisfying once the enemy and obstacle spawns started coming in thick and fast. And zipping across the screen on B press to get out of a sticky situation feels awesome.
I would say though that it takes too long to get to that sweet spot where you have a decent difficulty to make it exciting to me. I found myself just kind of waiting for the first minute to pass when restarting, then it would get quite exciting. If the difficulty ramped up more quickly over time then that would be good. But perhaps the best way to solve this problem would be to include difficulty modes so the player can choose the intensity they want. Then you could have highscores for each mode too. But all in all, I think this is a fantastic entry.
Music was rad too.
Really well done!
Thanks for the feedback! I had the same concerns about difficulty, but just wasn't sure what the general skill level of the players would be like and didn't have time for a difficulty selector. I might just come back and add that in a future update!
Totally, I have had similar issues with my game. So hard to figure out a reasonable difficulty progression in a jam because there really isnt enough time to get proper feedback. But I'm looking forward to everyone's v1.1s!
I like the controls and that circular setup a lot! Plus you used such an uncommon software to make the game! I'm really impressed!
Fun game, I really like the teleporting mechanic.
Thanks! Glad you like it!
