Beautiful game, when's the release? :)
Really impressed by the amount of polish you've managed to stuff into this game. Every move feels very responsive with the screen shake and post processing, and the whole game feels alive even though its just about sliding cards around. I also like how it isn't overwhelming at first and gradually ramps up. There's also the fact that cards comes in deck, making it possible to plan for what might come next. Great work on the game!
Thanks! Yeah polishing is like my favourite thing to do in game dev. I'm a big believer that making your game base actions juicy and "feeling good" makes the game several times more fun and re-playable by themselves.
This is the best game thus far! geat work im impressed!
This game looks amazing, if you are interested in working together let me know!
Thanks! I pretty much always fly solo on jams but I'll keep your offer in mind in case I wanna team up.
Holy moly. How did you get so much done in a month! The graphics and sounds were so much fun! I really enjoyed playing the game. Great work :D
Haha yeah, been making games for a loooong time so I kinda know what I'm doing and also know how much I can achieve to scope accordingly.
Oh my god, the polish on this one is out of this world! Amazing work! The art, the animations, the fully responsive screen size (even on 4k), the sounds, everything was smooth as hell! :) The gameplay itself I found a bit tricky, but other than that, it was an amazing jam experience!
Thanks for the praises! Can you explain a bit more what you found tricky on the gameplay? I tried to make it very simple at the start, just sliding cards on the board and grabbing stars. And then the player kinda builds up the complexity themselves by choosing different skills.
Top notch. Extremely polished, fun, and creative game. Everything looks and feels right. The sounds, music, the voice overs, all went well together and made this game feel like I should have paid for it :). I don’t think I have any complaints whatsoever. Well done!
Truly fabulous presentation. Loved the art style and all of the amazing little touches you made like the screen shake. Sounds effects and voice over were on point, and I personally thought the music was just fine and perfect for the kind of game where you need to be thinking about your next move. I need to spend a bit more time playing this as the combinations and how you trigger them were not at all obvious to me in the actual game. I would be really interested to know your solution used for the leaderboards - i.e. did you do that from scratch or utilise an existing service? Because I'd be quite keen to be able to utilise an "itch approved" solution for my own projects. This is a great entry and I have a sneaking suspicion that you are going to rate very very highly. Awesome work.
Thanks! I think the music ended up pretty ok on this. I'm not great at making music and here my main goal was to just make something chill that fits the pacing of the game and doesn't completely mismatch the theme/mood.
The leaderboards use an existing service I've made some years ago which I've been using on all my score based games. Of course the client side can be found in the sources but that won't really help you that much without the server side. It's really simple though, just turn data to JSON, throw it to a PHP script which deserializes it (does some simple verification too to make spoofing not so easy) and dumps it to a MySQL database. And then the same in other direction too for loading the scores. So basically the 101 PHP/MySQL intro tutorial the internet is filled with.
Fun game! Nice voice effects. Great presentation
Love the artwork and colour pallette. SFX adds to the experience and is well balanced. For the music, I wonder if something a bit more "medieval" would add to the vibe? Good instructions, easy to get started.
Thanks! For the music I consider myself a complete newbie so I pretty much always fail at going for some specific style and end up just trying to make something that doesn't sound horrible and totally non-matching. 😅
Perfect visual and good audio, really liked the game
Really really liked this one, probably my favourite that I’ve played so far!
Very fun gameplay loop and I found myself going back for multiple replays without hesitation. Art style is nice too, got something of a feel of Binding of Isaac to it!
Great job :D
Ahh, thanks! ❤️
Glad to hear the gameplay loop is interesting enough and that the end isn't so demoralizing that going for another run is easy enough. I did make it more more about focusing on perfecting the score than actually surviving though of course you can quite easily fail too. But it is quite often pretty obviously your own fault when you build in such a way that there is an unreachable gap. But still keeps happening to me constantly. 😅
Hope the sheer amount of available skills (there is close to 100 unique ones) and their combinations keep the runs interesting too on repeated tries. Of course their number increases the RNG factor too and that's one of the big reasons I added the daily mode where the luck is same for everyone.
Oh and I am a pretty big Isaac/Edmund fan even though I don't think I've ever actually intentionally taken any (visual) inspiration from it but of course it could affect my style unconsciously. And there are tarot cards in Isaac too. 😆
Didnt quite get how to correctly combo, but I like the Highscore + a Daily very! Full Game, great!
The style of your game is fantastic. All actions give great visual and audio feedback - very well done!
Supercool game, the mechanics are great, the presentation is amazing and overall very polished!
I like this style very much, interesting game
This was really fun! I was confused at first about what I was supposed to do, but then I realized that the star was the target (duh). Really cool mechanic with upgrading the cards, too. And it's so polished, which a lot of jam games lack. Great work. :)
Thanks! Yeah, polishing is one of my favourite things to do in game dev. Adding some cool effects and shaders and so on. That along with the initial few hours of prototyping are my favourite bits really. Sadly indeed it is quite often overlooked in jam games but in a longer jam like this it really should be a given. In the grand scheme of things it really doesn't take that much time to add some effects, small animations, screen shake etc yet they really do a lot to help sell the look of the game and make it feel that much more alive, even with humble art assets.
I love it too! A lot of my games were made in weekend jams so I really enjoyed being able to add some polish to this longer game jam's game as well. (your polish is much polishier than mine though 😂)
Yeah same, I usually do 48 hour jams too but recently I've really started to enjoy these longer jams more as they aren't so strict timing wise having to dedicate pretty much whole weekend on it and can just semi-casually work few hours per day and even keeping some days off as needed. They also give much more freedom to experiment with different stuff.
This game is awesome!
