Nice game. I was intrigued by the blend of platforming and card combat – a brave, albeit unconventional choice. The transition from one mode to the other was an interesting twist that kept me on my toes. While the UI and level design need polishing, the unique concept and engaging storyline made my journey worthwhile. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of strategizing in card battles, despite some elements feeling underdeveloped. It's an ambitious game that dares to be different.

Game broken or idk, there's an invisible wall at the start that I can't go through. Not going to give any rating because of that.

Developer

Quest in top right says to go up elevator to speak to manager first, will unlock the invisible wall.

Sorry for the lack of clarity

This has a lot of potential to be an impressive game. The amount that you have completed in a month is very impressive. I like the RPG card game play. There's some other games out there that end up being just a card game -- they tend to annoy me. Hot take - Magic the Gathering annoys me - why I would play it on the computer, I don't know. All that to say, this is not Magic the Gathering on the computer. I appreciate the story... I wish I could have finished it to see how far it goes (like others said the checkpoints would be appreciated.) Great work!

This game is one big uncohesive nightmare. The only thing good in this game is the music. Where to even begin?

Overworld:

- The background is too polished and makes the NPCs look unfinished.

- The writing is word salad at its best. Thesaurizing every word makes for pitiful writing and some parts are just unreadable.

- Level design is sloppy, lazy, and uninspired. Why is there a transition into combat from a platforming game? That makes zero sense and kills any pacing.

- The pacing through the levels is a slog. There is no sense of urgency to do anything and exploring is not rewarding in the slightest.

- The UI is a mess. Permanently pasting the objective to fill up a portion of the screen is a miserable thing to do.

Combat:

- Again the UI is poorly done and the combat shouldn't transition from a platformer to a card game.

- The card game itself is just bad design. It feels clunky and unintuitive. The card text is so small that it is indicative of how irrelevant each card ability is.

- The pacing in the card game is annoying. There is no strategy involved in this at all. It quickly devolves into just randomly clicking cards until the combat is over.

- Having a dice-based damage system might be the worst cardinal sin of all. Like mentioned in the previous point there is no strategy involved in rng and its just a rush to try to end combat as fast as possible because it feels so bad.

Overall this is not a good game. This game can't decide if it wants to be a platformer, card game, or a poorly written graphic novel. Combining these elements together lends itself to lazy level design, terrible combat, and sloppy writing. There is no sense of place in this game even when its explicitly stated. Forcing different styles of games together is never a good idea. If you would have decided on a single element to focus on it mightve turned out decently but instead it became an unenjoyable mess.

Thank you for making an account just to give us feedback! Will keep these in mind moving forward :)

I lost a battle and I was a little surprised that I had to start over from the very beginning. Such an ambitious game like this one could benefit from some checkpoints. (Or maybe I lost too early before encountering a checkpoint.)

There are a few minor things that are a little rough around the edges, but in general this is a very impressive submission given the scale of the project. A card game alone could have been the whole entry, and yet this game has platforming, a story, dialogue, shops, and random encounters on top of the card game. It’s very impressive! Give yourselves a pat in the back, even with a large team it’s hard to pull off so much with so little time.

Cheers!

Tragically, a proper working checkpoint system had to be cut for time haha, it was something I really wanted to get in. If we continue the project, it would be one of the first things to fix for sure.

I appreciate the kind words :D We wanted to push for something less game-jam esc and more, game demo like, and while it ended up causing us to cut a few key aspects (like a checkpoint system, but also other small polishing), I'm really glad all the other elements came together as well as they did.

Thank you for playing <3  It's appreciated a lot

Enjoy your report ^^

I had a blast with this game - felt a bit like Slay the Spire but with a fun new environment. The art was very immersive and I enjoyed the general theme. On the first real level I booped into the stalactite and then got rekt by the hands coming up from the ground which was super punishing but luckily I wasn't too deep haha.

Love the combination of genres here and I especially like the card game mechanics of the game. The art is really neat too and the setting is unique. I do wish the game was a bit shorter, but I admire the ambition of this game. Great work!

Hey just tried it from discord :) Some feedback:

- On the far right of the entry area "equipment" is spelt incorrectly

- I felt like the inventory UI maybe could have been a bit better, that could just be my opinion though I don't know! I think it was the large spaces between the cards for me (I have a 2k monitor).

- I somehow managed to cause a bug after speaking to the supervisor where clicking "Do Your Job" didn't do anything but it didn't happen after reloading. Not sure on exact reproduction steps.

- Even though I don't play these kind of games I did like the card gameplay, and I can see a lot of effort went into this!

- Was nice to see all the written dialog as well.

Good work though, can see this will have taken some effort to pull together.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback :D

A lot of the UI clean up was done near the end, and some stuff didn't have time to be fixed which definately showed, but I appreciate the point out, it's something to take note for future.

The game has a few very small % bugs we couldnt figure out how to reproduce that only got found near the end as well.

I'm glad you enjoyed the gameplay, thank you for playing <3

This game is polished!  I also love the Dante theme xD.  Great music too!  It seemed like a sort of blend between Lufia's Sinistral theme and FF7's creepy music in the basement with Vincent.  If you haven't played those, I'm just saying "awesome."  Great job!

Developer

We definitely had a bigger team than most! So went for a proper demo more so than a proof of concept.

I'll be sure to let our music guy know, but thank you for playing, and the kind words

I love the idea of taking the concept towards a card game and I love the idea of purgatory, the arts are very cute and the audio is nice too!

Developer

<3 I'm so glad you like it! We really appreciate the praise <3

I think your scope was a little greedy for a month jam. The game would benefit a lot if it was shorter.

Developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback! We originally had a bigger group, and scaled for that, but lost members due to personal reasons, so a lot of the polish got cut for time.

It's probably not the best game specically for a game jam, but I hope it's still enjoyable :D
