Nice game!
I think the intro is a bit too long but overall really great,
The gameplay and espically the visuals are awesome.

btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)

Developer(+1)

I agree the intro is a bit long, but I wanted to squeeze in as much detail as I could lol, also will definitely check it out!

Submitted

Good job. Could work well as an educational game. :)

Developer

Depends on what you're educating them on I guess lol, thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

This was super unique and also quite challenging. Love it! I noticed a couple of typos in the recipes but no biggie. This is a game jam after all. :) Great work on your submission.

Developer

Lots of the recipes I had to make last minute so I couldn't check over to see if there were typos, will definitely have to fix it for a future patch, but thanks for the comment!

Cool version of Papers, please with dishes. I kind of like this better, it’s more light-hearted.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Cool stuff, I enjoyed it! After I completed the first day I was a bit worried the gameplay wouldn't be engaging enough, but once things get rolling it's heart-racing stuff - especially the line from the glutton that's begins with 'Not...'. Much more relaxing that Papers Please, though (thank God - loved that game, but oh boy, the stress). The last day was hilarious with the cooks trying to hoodwink you bigtime.

My day job is also highly analytical so things went mostly to plan except that one vanilla cake that ended up with vinegar in it (lol), and a couple of expired ingredients. Also had to convert the expiry dates in my head from MM/DD to DD/MM which added a lil extra challenge. In the end I made out with $340 of ill-gotten gains (well $240 I suppose as you begin with 100 bux don't you). Restaurant work is a tough gig even while you're committing fraud.

Does the 'load game' button do anything different to 'new game'? I didn't want to try exiting the game early in case game state wasn't saved.

Well done on the UI. Only things I can think of as improvements: maybe allow rejection of orders before the cook finishes their blathering - though it's kind of nice to have the breather once you spot a mistake. And as mentioned above it'd be nice to have a DD/MM/YYYY option (or even YYYY/MM/DD for the 100% sensible date format users) though I dunno how easy that localisation feature would be.

Oh yeah, one other random thing. The typewriter noise really reminded me of the David Crane Ghostbusters game from 1984...

Developer(+1)

I'm glad that you enjoyed my submission! For the load button, it does work, I should've explained it somewhere within the menus but after each day your progress gets saved (After each day, not meal). So the things that get saved are your current money, the current level, and your highscore.

I also did want to make it so you can reject orders while the chef is still speaking, but during development I was running into some bugs that happened as a result of that, and due to the time constraint I couldn't fix it so I locked the button so you could only click it after the chef was done their dialogue.

I will definitely consider having more accessible options like the MM/DD or DD/MM stuff for future projects too!

It is a very original game!!  I love it even if I was very bad at it!  Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Good game, but I was terrible at it LOL

Developer

Thanks, definitely not an easy game lol

Man I am the worst food judge lool. I kept feeding that child the worst stuff lmao.

Was a fun game definitely a 5 star for mood. great job.

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

Great game! Was really fun searching through the recipes trying to find the differences with the heat of a timer on you. Simple and yet challenging. Great submission!

Developer

Appreciate the response!

This must've been a headache to put together but it looks awesome and it plays smooth. I not much of a chef, more of a slam it all together but reading the recipes was interesting and made me wanna try them aswell so both educational and entertaining. Great job.

Developer

Definitely wasn't an easy one to put together, but I had a lot of fun figuring out ways to make it work and also learning a few recipes from online. Glad that you liked it!

Submitted

I was not expecting to find here a cook version of "Papers Please"!!!

It was fun enough

Developer

Appreciate the response, when you say "It was fun enough", are you referring to the fact that there's more room to grow? If so, in what ways would you change/update it?

Submitted

Yes, I think it is.

Right now the book of recipes opens directly on the correct recipe. You have not to search it.

The recipes are quite forward and direct, so you have to translate them directly to what the one who cooked them told you. It would be interesting to add some issues on them. Different kind of measures, that you need to translate, or "small master cheff improvements" as to cook something a little longer with less temperature that the thing written in the recipe, etc.

At the same time, lets begin with simple recipes. I don't know, a sandwitch, eggs and potatoes, a bocadillo, and in further levels go to more complex ones.

There are a lot of options, but at the same time I think that a game as the one you make is more complex than the one I did. It needs much more planification and to control the difficulty is quite hard. In some way, it is some kind of RPG (it is not, it is only an expression). There are a lot of stats to calculate to balance the gameplay.

Developer

For sure I think there was definitely more that I could've done in terms of ramping up the difficulty over the week and actual changes to the problems you had to spot.

I actually was planning on having simple recipes at first that ramps up to more complex ones at first but I had too little recipes in the game by the time the jam submissions deadline was closing in so I had to scrap the idea

In terms of the recipe book itself I definitely did want to make some improvements to it, for example in my original plan I wanted to have multiple menus on the screen so there were more aspects to it, such as having to check your mail for potential unkisted hazards and such but again, wasn't possible due to the time constraints.

I did spend about the first 4 days planning what the game would be without opening Unity so I think it was a good lesson for me to learn how to spend my time a bit better in planning my game

Thanks for the feedback!

This was a really unique game, I like the idea and how it all comes together for you to troubleshoot and look for clues. It shows that a lot of work went in to it. Well done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the response, it was definitely not an easy gameplay loop to come up with as around 20% of the game jam I spent fleshing out a solid loop.

Submitted

Nice base game! Maybe would feel a lot better if it tells us why it's wrong when we get something wrong. Also audio is on point, and just lacking a background song.

Good submission!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks, I wanted to implement it in a different way where it highlights the problem, but it was a little bit difficult with the time constraints so I just made it so when you accept bad foods there would be small dialogue with what was wrong with it (but not exactly), I may implement that in a future revision!

Submitted

Recipies please!

Great take on the theme, a little tricky to spot all the errors but that is probably a me issue and not the game. I liked the styling and the story, great job!

Developer(+1)

For sure going to be adding on new recipes, will provide a future upload with new recipes

Submitted

Nice different style of game.
My main complaint is the date being 2016 :D. I didn't spot that at first and refused expired ingredients, but i was wrong.

Developer(+1)

I probably should've made it clear at the beginning that the date was different, ill for sure watch out for that in a future revision

Submitted

I really like that it looks easy (yes/no choice) but at the same time it can be hard as hell because you really need to pay attention to the details. :D I also much liked the dialogs appearing "typed" with sound. I liked the overall design (visual&sound) of the game!

Developer

Appreciate the compliment, definitely wanted to emphasize on the fact that everything looks good and appealing, but some might still be bad

Submitted

Great concept, I was a little confused with the story at first whilst following along but understood it better on your main page. Ive learned I'm not very good at following instructions haha. Great Job!

Developer

Appreciate the feedback, will for sure improve on clarity for the instructions during the first day!

Submitted

I really like the way you did the text and how the sounds matched when the letters came on the screen. I felt like I needed to be a chef to get some of the recipes correct. Is there somewhere on the UI that is lets you see the proper recipe?

Developer

The proper recipe is displayed in the tablet on the bottom right of the screen, you click on the chef hat icon to see the current recipe of the food the chef presented to you. The information on there will always be correct, however the information the chef gives you through the chatbox could be inconsistent with the recipe book, or he could be using an incorrect amount of ingredients, or in the later days you may find yourself restricting what can be in the food.

Submitted

Thanks! I will try that.

Submitted

Well done. Papers Please for chefs? I'll take it. I appreciated the recipes being repeated so the player could start to memorize certain aspects. I felt a little rushed at first, but it had a nice ramp up. I didn't realize there was an ingredients tab at first and it felt bad to accept an expired dish, but once I found you could click between, it was a nice touch. Good job!

Developer

Definitely should've left some better indicators for it, polishing up the game took a bit so couldn't get to doing it, but I appreciate the feedback!
