Visual were cool.
Very nice concept, like the strategy theme, though I'm quite rusty in the genre and not very good. There were not too many things to do en route and I guess as the developer said maybe the whole point is to strategize about where to go and what missions to pick...? Anyway, technically it seemed like a sound game, had a resources system, a mission system, you could have crew (I didn't get far though so not sure what they do). So, quite a few gameplay elements there, well done.
What was the exact connection to the theme though, if any?
Thanks for giving it a try! The theme runs more along the lines of your ship being your home and the thing that is precious to you so you must keep it flying with food and fuel while gold should be more of a second thought. Wanted to go a more subtle route.
Ah yes, now I think I get it. Indeed I ran out of food and starved to death when I played haha.... got so greedy with the missions... greed is good! until hunger kills you...
Great gane!
The gameplay is great and the visuals just WOW, i liked how the game
looked finished and polished.
btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)
Thanks for giving it a try! I did give your project a try and rated it already, about 7 days ago, great submission you have!
Wow! This is great! I got hooked quickly :) I needed to remind myself to close your game as I still want to try others too :D You have created wonderful game in two weeks! A working game loop, all the features work nicely with the minimum amount of polish that makes them work well together. Oh, and special thumbs up for the resolution settings+the full screen toggle!
Thanks for playing and glad you liked it!
Pretty chill game, although those pesky space pirates kept stealing my gold! I noticed the missions repeat themselves over and over, which is good for survival but don’t make the player take any unnecessary risks.
I think having the possibility to play for longer than 50 days would be nice. Great work!
thanks for giving it a try! I do agree with stretching the 50 days out longer which will be in my post-jam continuation of this.
Great music. Great theme. A beautiful Start Menu and UI. Loved the name the most of all. A Home Among the Stars, it just sounds amazing, and has a lot of emotion attached to it. :')
Struggled a little with grasping the concept and the rules of the game, but overall enjoyed playing it. Could only survive for 16 days though. :D
Great game! There are certainly polish to be made, but a lot of things already feels right, like the control feels pretty good, and without reading too much of your explanation I was able get the feel of what this game is going to be like by just playing and trying things out. Props for working out the grid system in that short amount of time, good job!
Thanks for giving it a try and appreciate the feedback!
Awesome game, love the sci-fi theme! I'm not really good with strategic games so I struggled a bit but I think I've got the hang of it.
You accomplished so much in less than two weeks! Congrats!
Thanks for giving it try even though its not your type of style of game! I do appreciate the comments as it givea me motivation to continue on
This was a really impressive achievement within the two week deadline. I really liked the art and thank you so much for the initial tutorial screen, it explained everything very well.
I managed to win on my first attempt - mostly by careful travelling between Starship Box and Tanaris with the occasional trip to Keshian (I was too much of a scaredy-cat to take the long journey to Mathis - though I guessed probably the best crew members were there). I screwed up a couple of times and forgot to load up on missions, but my captain's 'luck stat' managed to get me by with the fuel / food random encounters (at the risk of looking a gift-horse in the mouth... possibly a bit too generous)
Really good stuff and congrats on this one. Might be nice to allow the player to continue past 50 turns - I had only just managed to upgrade my engine at turn 48!
Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it! Awesome that you made it to 50 days! I wanted to offer various scenarios to choose from as an end game goal but as my wife kept reminding me "Keep it simple in order to turn it in on time" :) But I am planning to continue on and expand this one.
I absolutely hear that - great to have the support from your loved ones (and bringing down to earth!). You got it bang-on with the scope in my opinion. Following this game jam I now understand all those comments in end game credits for older games where they thanked their girlfriends / wives for their patience!! Funny thing: today my good lady mentioned that 'there was a gaming conference and would I like tickets' - turns out it was the GMTK game jam that's on this weekend. I think doing a 48 hour gamejam at this point would probably end me :)
And please do expand your game - I love this style of game, it's a bit of a lost art. I had an idea to expand on the old EGA Trek game I loved as a kid...
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: loved the fact you added in graphical options. My PC is currently a graphical potato since my GPU gave up last year!
The support of my wife during this made a huge difference! She took the kiddo to his weekend classes, ran the errands, and did everything else to allow me to stay home and focus on this game jam, even though this has just been my hobby. Truly hope everyone can find such a gem in their life.
I don't know how you managed to do it in 2 weeks. It's amazing! A great basis for some big game. Are you planning to add any storylines?
As for the gameplay, I think it would be interesting to desing it more for the shorter sessions, something like "Into the breach", with a clear goal and different mechanics depending on the level. I imagine it could be a very cool and unique mobile strategy. But this is of course only one of the ideas. You can also make a second Stellaris out of it :)
Actually you did that in 11 days as i see - THAT'S INSANE XD
Thanks for the comments! I do plan to add in storylines, multiple star systems, and a lot more depth!
Balance might be easier if we started with larger food and fuel supplies. 10 food means a full crew can't even make it to the farthest planet. This is a very ambitious project but it works, well done. 1 possible bug(?) I encountered: I had 2 food, and 2 crew, but I lost a crewmate for lack of food, which didn't seem right to me. Keep up the good work, you have a very solid framework to expand upon here!
I wasn't sure at first, but then I actually got into and lost all my crew members. I don't know if it's the balance of the game that made it that way, but I feel like I ended up going back between the Tavern and the first Market planet a lot, not really going to any of the other planet... Might just be me though...
Anyway, nice game! 11/10 would lose my crew members again.
The balance is definitely one of the biggest issues I've struggled with along with the quests, a lot of it due to the time limit as well. I am hoping to start building a more dynamic quest system along with building upon this concept post-jam. Thanks for playing!
This is a keeper, I'm motivated to keep trying to win by testing the permutations.
There are no obvious faults, looks good, sounds good, is challenging.
Glad you had fun! I am looking forward to building on this project a bit post-jam
Wow this was fun! I love strategy games and I can't believe you pulled this together in such a short amount of time. You nailed the pace of the game and it looks really cohesive with all of the sound effects and the UI styling. Nice work. :)
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!
Well i made it to 50 days :D. Started taking chances and getting a crew half way through, but found them more hassle by the end :P. Think more "reward" needed for their darn food consumption :).
Have you ever played a game called Pardus? It's a web browser space game. If you're after some inspiration for furthering this game, i can highly recommend it.
Great work on bringing this together, well done!.
Thanks for playing and congrats for beating it! I will have to check out Pardus, ive already started the post-jam expansion and more ideas are always good (as well as playing awesome games)
Wow, very deep game for a game jam! Took me a few days to figure out what to do, but once I did, it was a very fun experience. Got a new favorite so far!
Really awesome what you have done. It feels like a complete game. The UI design is amazing, the gameplay plays well. The game is challenging enough to have replayability. Dude. You don't do things halfway done. For that, two thumbs up:   (imagine they are emojis)
Thanks for playing. Glad you liked it!
Wow, there's a ton going on here. I get big economic board game vibes from the conceit here, so that's going to make me love (and be very critical of) this game. I got to about day 18 before dying because I kept accidentally ending day without moving when I thought I would have enough to make it to the next checkpoint. You'd think that shouldn't happen because there's an "are you sure" popup, but i got into the habit of clicking it every time because it just became rote. I would suggest only doing the "are you sure" popup if there's movement remaining maybe? The events felt like a little too much randomness in that the early game is largely influenced by whether or not you find free food and fuel. If you don't get a lot of that, you have to turn in quests for it (which feels less efficient).
I did have a hilarious moment where I kicked Sally from my ship because I was low on food, but the end of day event gave me 10 food, so I chuckled at that. I then rehired her a few days later as she turned back up at the starport. That sort of emergent story telling would be a really cool thing to flesh out in a bigger version of this game.
Well done on this overall!
Thank you for the detailed feedback! Your comment about the event randomness was a good lightbulb moment on how I can help balance the game, change the percentage of the event card types based on number of days. It can start easy and gets a bit harder the closer to day 50. I think the idea of the Are You Sure message is a good route as well. I may put this together since it should be fairly easy to do for a next patch.
Thanks again for trying it out and leaving the comment!
This is absolutely awesome. Beautifully laid out and perfectly implemented. Amazing job.
Thank you!
