hey there, nice entry!
the zoom camera left/right is an intersting idea to kind of plan your move in advance, and the pixel art is very nice, too (though the scaled down devil is noticable).
so far I think there is not enough meaningful descisions to be made, so you would probably need units that act differently or the possibility to upgrade units.
but a cool little story for a setting.
good job!
Haha the scaled-down one was definitely one of my last minute edits!😅 I didn't want to create art since I was losing a lot of time already
You're definitely right about there not being enough decisions. That's what I was most worried about especially for experienced strategy gamers! I wanted to have an upgrade menu (hence, the credits at the top left) but again, not enough time huhu!
Thank you so much for the feedback and trying the game though! Will definitely keep note of these ideas!
Great looking game and the "tug of war" concept was pretty fun. Would be cool to see an expanded version of this with other units with different abilities. For 4 days, this is really good!
Glad you enjoyed it!:) I really like this game and I hope to implement an expanded version of it too! Thanks again for trying it out!:)
Great job for 4 days! Simple and fun. I felt dumbfounded at first until I discovered I *also* have to use the mouse to place units :D
Oh I see! I think I might make custom cursors to make it more obvious or assist the player without putting too many signs 😅 thank you for the feedback though this one's really helpful!
The art looks amazing. It's easy to grasp and there is potential for a looot of different strategies if you add more units. So nice job!
One thing I noticed is that I sometimes missed an enemy knight by a couple of pixels if I eyeballed it wrong. So maybe having a grid-based spawn area could help avoid that.
The potential is definitely there once I get them in! Thank you for the compliments!:) The laning will be noted. I really want to make it free from grid-snapping so I'm trying to figure out what would make placement more reliable, however, if I really can't make it fun that way, I might move to grid-based. Thank you!
I really like the art style and how you had that comic-style intro. The music was nice too. The gameplay was pretty simple but it's a very cool accomplishment for one person to build alone in the time of the jam. Nice work!
Thank you so much for trying my game! It's an art style I'm trying to figure out, but I'm super glad you were able to enjoy it!
It was a really cool game. Great job for doing all art and music yourself! 2 small things I would have improve:
- Units description details in someway (I mean what damage/hit points or whatever they have)
- Explain how you gain the money
Good work!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I think I will try to create a hover tooltip for each unit in the future. This will be noted! Same with the money, thank you!
I love this style of game. Couldn't win the battle, but it was interesting until the end.
I couldn't understand how the money worked, I was spamming click until I could use troops :D
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I agree, I think common feedback I had was explaining the game, and I'll be sure to make this easier to know!
Wow, first of all the art style is really stunning! You see the logo and think, that the game itself will be different. But no! Very impressive. I saw in the comment below that the game was made in 4 days. 4 days, my god!.. Maybe only one little nuance with visuals - walking animation looks a bit strange, is it because of resize?
Also music(and retro style sound) fits very well and really sets the mood. Are you an author or is it an asset?:)
The Game mechanics is good . When you just started you feel like "yea, strategy, roock!!". A small issue I met is hitboxes I guess - enemies pass each other in a situation where i thought the definitely should stop and attack, so it was difficult to catch a knight, when he goes on the top of the road.
Players below also mentioned that more units and upgrades will be nice, but as the game were made in 4 days its not an issue, I thnink.
So, anyway very cool! Don't drop it after the jam:)
Oh wow, thank you for the flattering comment!:) First off, yes, 4 days... and in Godot engine when I've made unity games all my life 😅but transitioning to Godot, I found the dev't in Godot actually made my life easier! I feel like this amount of work would take me 5 or 6 days in unity, but it only took me 4 total days in Godot!:)
Yes, the walking animation for the smaller ones are strange because of scale. Everything is scaled pixel-perfect, but the smaller ones were literally a scaled down version of the big minion, I didn't have enough time to create animations for a smaller minion😅
For the music, yes I'm the author! If you're familiar with VST plugins, I mostly used a mix of DSK and Sonatina plugins!:) They sound bad alone, but if used correctly in the right theme, could produce something like that!:) If you need a copy, I don't mind if you'd download the piece in the github repository! It's called "assets/audio/battle_theme.wav"
For catching knights, I noticed some knights spawn too far off track, it'll be noted in the future!
Thank y ou so much for trying it out!:)
Hey,
wow i love the game! Its beatiful and soo much fun. And you did this in only 4 days??? Wow pretty impressive. I like the pixelart look that you made so much!
Very very nice entry for this Gamejam!
would be nice if you play and rate my game too. Its a pixelart game, too :
Hey thanks so much! 4 Days was all I could do with university and all that 😅 however, I was still happy with how it turned out! Glad you also liked my art style:) trying something new and it seems like it's working!
Also, I left some feedback on your game just now too:) Loved your art!
This brings back good memories of playing similar RTS games on iPad back in the days. Very appealing art and music. The gameplay is quite simple but you got your idea across through your great execution!
I noticed the game getting more difficult as the health dropped. It would be even better if new units/abilities are available to help us tackle this challenge. Nice job!
Glad it gives that feeling! It was fully intentional! Same goes for the difficulty with hp dropping, the game was intended to have abilities or a third unit, but again, not enough time 😅 but I intend to perhaps update it in the future with it! Thank you for trying it out!:)
I defeated Lt. Galahad! Good job on this, I only ran into one bug where I wasn't able to spawn in my base at certain times, until the enemies cleared from it.
Thank you and good job defeating Lt. Galahad!
The AI for Galahad actually was meant to be difficult once you bring him down to 50%, (but the same applies to you if you'll notice!) but I'm glad it was still bearable for a "beginner" level!
I'll take note of this bug, but I think it might be the "lack of coins" when spawning? I never really created a warning for trying to spawn when you don't have enough coins which is pretty bad UX, but I didn't have enough time 😅 however, I will look into this bug you've mentioned!
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Wub wub wub really cool game
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it! I wish I got to emphasize the theme better, but I couldn't really figure out how to animate a person from the "afterlife" warping out😅 but thank you!
very nice aesthetics, story images little hard to tell whats going on. took me a bit to figure out i was to try to tear down enemy castle, probably cause i never saw it much cause moving camera was hassle. Maybe a zoom out to see both castle would be better than left and right for camera.
Thank you for the feedback!
Yeah, the story images were severely rushed and made within <10 minutes 😅 I wanted to make it a storyboard with extra scenes, but I didn't want to have to code that within this timeframe, but this will be noted in the future!
Camera movement will be noted! I've been trying to find ways to make it less of a hassle, and I was thinking of actually showing unit locations at the top bar, but I didn't know how to implement that at the timeframe! I might make several camera modes in the future to accommodate your suggestion, it sounds like a neat idea!:)
Really fun game! Very well balanced for such a short duration of creation time! Agreeing with the person under me. Sometimes i placed the smaller ocs out of line so the just passed the enemy. Other then that i enjoyed it!
Thank you! Yes, I had to cut down so much content since I only got to start with a couple days left😅 but I'm glad it was well balanced enough!
Will take note of aligning units! I might create grid snapping or way to align them easier, thank you!
The art is phenomenal! Maybe some visual indicators of lanes would have been helpful I sometimes but units down thinking they would intercept with the enemy but they never did.
Ahh this will be noted! I thought the camera hotkeys might help align that as you're staring down an enemy, but I'm thinking maybe adding a (hold) shortcut so that it spawns the unit all the way from base while hovering over an enemy unit. Will try to figure this one out in the future, thank you!:)
That is a great Idea! You could then have a small more transparent sprite at the edge of the screen towards your castle, to give the players even more feedback of what they are doing!
I really love the art and aesthetics of the game. I kinda wished my units could attack units next to them.
Thank you! The units attacking will be noted!
I wanted to keep it a straight line as a restriction with a certain hurtbox, but I think I might try implementing archers that can shoot a wider area to accommodate that in the future!:)
Very nice all around. It's fun watching the units fight, it reminds me of age of war.
Haha yup! Age of war was also a big inspiration for me! I really enjoyed the strategic aspect, but I didn't have enough time to implement towers and upgrades! Glad it reminds you of it a lot though! It was a huge inspiration for me too!
This game is incredible. One of the best games I've ever played. I really enjoy the game. The artwork is outstanding. The concept of placing minions in battle fields to win the game is brilliant.
Thank you! It's not my original idea though, I took inspiration from a game called Siegius!:) If you enjoyed this a lot, you might enjoy it too! Since it's a flash game though you might only find it on Flashpoint or if y ou're using a browser that can use flash, then great! Should be on newgrounds and maxgames :)
Also glad you enjoyed the artwork! It's a new style I'm trying since I've been on hiatus, but I suppose I can keep trying this new style!:)
this is such a cool little game! i would love to see multiple stages with different minion types to diversify strategies. i almost died so the difficulty was perfect for a first level. Honestly keep up with this project and you could totally make this a commercial product.
Thanks! I didn't have enough time to add more types, I seriously wanted an archer and shield type character! I lost half my time due to College 😅 glad the difficulty was just right! I had to tweak it so many times playtesting with my friend! Luckily she was awesome enough to bear with my ramblings😭
Will take note of your feedback!
