Pretty cool! Glad you don't have to do a 'perfect run' of each step :)

Developer

Yeah, I wanted the game to be tricky but not incredibly annoying so I gave the player like an extra 30 seconds I think from a perfect run. Thanks for playing!

Nice game, I like your idea. It is fun to play!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Mac build works! No matter what I did, my player couldn't get into the vent. I tried jumping onto the desk or chair with no luck. Would have been nice to continue, but none the less it looked great! Really the only thing I can suggest would be to make sure all doors into a room open inward as they do in real life (I saw one open outward). Also maybe when the player is close enough to interact with an item, it could glow or just do something to easily tell what things can be interacted with and what can't. Anyway, well done!

Developer(+1)

thanks for coming back to this! I’ve had a lot of feedback about the vent part already and I totally agree with everything. The game isn’t a platformer in the  slightest so there should be no need for such a hard jump. Probably would’ve figured this out if I did some play testing but I didn’t really get a chance to with the time limit. And that glow idea is really really good. That was definitely a minor issue that I was aware of and I tried fixing it with the little noise you get when you can’t interact with what you’re looking at, but I can totally see how there could still be confusion. I’ll keep that door think in the back of my head for the next time I need to make doors in a game too lol. Thanks again!

Any hints on how to get into the vent? I really want to finish it. haha

Developer

so first you have to get the screwdriver in the locked room. If you were looking for the key it’s on the desk in the room to the right of the starting area. Once you have the screwdriver you press e while looking at the vent to open it. Then you have to do the tricky jump up to the desk by running jumping and then crouching (left control) while in the air before landing on the desk. Hope that helped :)

I really tried to finish this game but it was just taking too long for my mind to figure it out so I never found the bomb but found out how to disable it and whats the point of the vent? Anyways it was super cool to see a fully fledged 3D game with such a cool concept, just wish I was able to save the player from death lol

Developer

First, Thank you so much for playing! The point of the vent was to get passed a door to get to a room that was barricaded from the inside, and you get in the vent by using the screwdriver you find in the locked room. The room you get to from the vent has passwords to all of the not broken computers, which have information about the bomb. Quick question, do you think after struggling with it for a bit, you would’ve been frustrated once you finally figured this out or would you feel proud of yourself that you stuck with it? I never really play tested so I have no clue how people who had a harder time with it felt lol. Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

I’d be mad about it but OHHHH I didn’t know the passwords for the computers and didn’t check the computers past the vent because I ran out of time

Hopped back on today and defused the bomb in 5 attempts, would have been 4 if I memorized the defusing things before heading upstairs, the upstairs is a little unfinished but its still cool, love how it also tracks attempts, I found the stuff behind the chalkboard before figuring out the passwords lol

Developer

Wow! Thanks for coming back to it! And regarding the whole chalkboard thing, I'm honestly not surprised, its pretty sus how its just there. It also appears that you were not tempted by the big red button that says do not press. Not many people can see a big red button and not press it (proven by other comments), very admirable lol!

dang it now I wanna go back and try that button

Great game! It took me a while to figure out how to use the screwdriver. Then I rage quit because I couldn’t climb into the vent. Maybe you should make the goal a little clearer?

Developer

Thanks for playing! I totally agree that the vent was annoying to get into, and in hindsight I should’ve put the vent on the ground so the player can just walk right in. That would however involve me to go back into blender and change a lot and with the fact it was a jam, I didn’t feel like I had the time. And regarding the game’s clarity, or rather lack there of, I wanted the player to feel confused and then have a nice aha moment and defuse the bomb in one cycle but it seems like that just lead to more frustration. Maybe I could’ve saw this if I did some play testing but I didn’t really think I had time. Thanks again for playing and leaving me some feedback! Much appreciated!

Played way longer than I thought I would, enjoyed every moment of it though, even went for a speed run world record (60s). Good Job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed!

Submitted(+1)

LOL I think we made the same game. Nevertheless, well done!

Developer

Haha no way! I’ll make sure to check yours out later when I get a chance

Fun game but bomb explodes too soon, I think. Also walking SFX starts with some noises and when it loops it becomes a bit annoying.

Developer

Thanks for playing! My rationale for the bomb timer was 1) to make it correspond better with the theme and 2) to give the player an added time pressure to make them more satisfied when he or she finally finishes a big part in one cycle. I never really playtested so that's just what I thought it would do, but anyway, thank you so much for the feedback!

Hi, I noticed your submission is missing source folders. Your source is everything someone needs to download your game, open it in the game engine, and hit Play to play the game. In your case, your source is missing the Assets, Packages, and ProjectSettings folders. Here is an example of what your source should look like: https://github.com/icepol/DeathIsOnlyTheBeginning

Developer

Thank you so much for letting me know! I think I have everything fixed in the github page now.

Jam Host(+1)

Yup, it looks good now :)

Developer

Cool! Thanks again!

I tried to check out the Mac build, but it says it can't be opened. Let me know if you can fix it and I'll play it!

Developer(+1)

First, thank you so much for letting me know that the mac build wasn't working. It should be fixed now. You may need to mess around with your privacy settings to get it running, but details on that are on the download page. Once you play it, if you have any feedback please let me know!
