This was really nice. But I feel like the gun should've been a minigun, would've made more sense for it to just fire indefinitely that way, lol.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

I feel like a minigun would fit, but if we went that route we would've also needed more work on the model and to make it spin (otherwise what's the point hoho) which would've taken a bit too much time. Though that'd pair super well with the rubbery barrels as they'd fan out while spinning. :'D

A pretty well done entry! It’s nice to see an FPS for a change. ;)

Both the art style and the sound design are nice, the animations and particle effects look good. One thing I didn’t care for were the particle effects on player projectiles. Given that we can’t stop firing, they’re constantly visible on the screen and they make it difficult to notice where the enemy is firing from.

As for the upgrade system, I think it is a great idea, but it would be executed better if the upgrades themselves were things that change the way the weapon works instead of just some stat upgrades. I guess the best upgrade I got was the one that gives you a percentage chance of launching a grenade instead of a standard projectile. Having your weapon constantly change to a different type and having to adapt to that would be really nice. I also didn’t really like the accuracy drop upgrade. In one playthrough I’ve started the game with two of these in a row and hitting something was next to impossible.

What worked really well was the enemy difficulty scaling. Not only slowly increasing the amount of enemies, but also introducing new enemies with different weapon types got the game a pretty good progression. It could easily give the game another avenue to improve, by adding more enemies with differently working AI systems (like enemies that only have a melee attack, so they try to move around the boxes and attack you from the sides / behind).

Overall, it’s a really great take on the jam theme, and a pretty good execution as well. I’ve enjoyed playing it. ;)

Developer

Thank you for playing and thank you for your feedback!

Agreed on the player bullet particles being a bit on the nose (though grenades essentially blinding you when firing quickly is intended).

Having the upgrades change the weapon to act differently (ex: shotgun, rocket launcher, etc) would've been an interesting path, but we ran out of time. On the plus side having a lot of grenade upgrades turns it into a grenade launcher and a lot of multishot upgrades makes it like a shotgun (and a lot of rubber upgrades makes you lose :'D).

Glad you liked the scaling and the game overall! <3

Before comments about the game: pretty neat thumbnail!
About the game: I didn't really feel the sense of being out of control, I think the changes should be more noticeable and drastic for a player from the very beginning. But the game itself is really well done! The models are simple but fit the style of the game so much, and the particles, explosions are really satisfying. The text for the UI was nice too, especially since a lot of game for jam don't have time for a good UI. Surprisingly, movement was on point too and well polished. So just to recap: not sure if it fits the theme as much, but the idea/concept is cool (I mean, not so much original, but the execution is one of the best. Just need more changes). Best of luck!

Hey thank you for playing and thank you for the criticism! <3

I agree - the upgrades should be more impactful to make the game scale faster. Very early on it was the opposite, where in 3-4 waves it'd get quite ridiculous (especially with the rubber upgrade, even 1 upgrade would make strafing useless) so we toned it down, though probably too much!

Glad you liked it and thank you again for the feedback!

Thanks for submitting your game to my stream!
I really liked the theme of your game. I don't know if you noticed, but this "uncontrolled weapon" theme was used a lot, but in your game you managed to create an environment very consistent with the style of the game. It has a lot of potential to become a multiplayer, or some very promising arcade game. Continue development, please!

This was way more fun than it had any right to be, and the chaos I felt by my 5th or 6th gun upgrade was GOLD. It would be really neat if the enemies started getting more varied gun types instead of just more health & harder hits -- I know the green one had its own bullet type, that was cool to see. Also, having the health indicator next to the gun was really nice. Good work all around!

Hey glad you enjoyed it, thank you for your kind words! <3

I agree with you, enemies were rushed a bit, it would've been cool to have them shoot grenades for example but i encountered a few issues on that end and time was tight.

Thank you for playing!

Great game! Very tight experience for a 48 hour jam! Would have maybe liked it to feel a little out of control faster (but maybe I'm just not good enough :D)

Developer

Hey glad you liked it! <3

Yeah the upgrades should probably ramp up faster. :)

I really like the visuals in this game --- the particle effects are especially nice! The game is a ncie fit to the theme too, but it takes a little while before I felt that was true.

The first few rounds were too slow for my liking. It was hard to find the enemies and they didn't seem to seek me out very well. So I spent a lot of time running around. This was fixed in the later rounds when there were a lot more enemies.

The upgrades started to stack up and really gave me a nice feeling of being out of control. The pushback made it hard to move forwards and the rubbery barrel was a hilarious touch (and a cool visual effect!).

The enemy scaling themselves felt a bit off. Once I met the green enemies the game became much harder as they took a long time to kill and did so much damage so fast! But otherwise I thought the enemies were well designed.

Overall the game was intuitive, well built, and felt great to play. I spotted a couple other small issues like my camera clipping into some of the meshes, but nothing unexpected for a 48 hour game. Really great work!

Really nice game! Fun and challenging (shooting grenades all the time became difficult to move around).

Developer

Hey glad you liked it!

Yeah the grenade and the rubbery upgrades are meant to be the main ways to lose the game, i'm glad we succeeded! :)
