Really fun, reminds me of FTL!

Simple graphics that work well and a fun hacking mechanic. Played two or three rounds before I re-read the instructions and realized I could use the scroll wheel instead of the Up and Down buttons; that made it much easier.

Awesome job!

I tried it 3 times. I event tried to cheat by spamming r with an script. but i still didn't beat it. Its quite hard. Maybe you add an easy mode xD

There is some potential in this game, but i see you already have ideas to improve your game. i will play it again ;-)

I liked the glowing level and how it slowly moved around!  The hacking was difficult for me XD I couldn't fin where the hints for the codes were (also I didn't read all the instructions and just jumped right in).  Still, congrats on submitting a cool hacking game to the jam! Please check out mine if you haven't :D

Hey nice game Lucas! It did remind me a bit of FTL. It was slightly confusing at the beginning but only took a few seconds to actually figure out. I guess one thing though is I wasn't sure what everything did. Like I knew the middle was Life Support, and the corners were thrusters to slowdown the ship somehow. Not sure what the middle left and middle right were, but I repaired them anyway because I figured they were important! I'm guessing one is related to the hull which I didn't seem to have a problem with. Anyway very well done! I enjoyed it quite a bit even if I kept losing!

really fun!  how do you win?!  we held out for quite awhile but still lost

Cool idea, but I didn't quite under how to perform the hacking faster. At first I kept timing out before I realized I had to spam R to get it to load. I think another mechanic there would go a long way.

Developer

Thanks for your comment! Yeah, I totally agree. I’ve already come up with an idea how to make the hacking better than just spamming a button. I’ll add it in when the jam is over. Thanks for playing!

It's quite hectic at first but I fell into a bit of a pattern and then it was just a matter of repeating it over and over again. If you keep working on it after the jam I think events that force you to change up what your doing could keep it going full throttle the whole way through. I really enjoyed it though!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Agreed, some randomized events could help break the routine. I have some ideas for that, I’ll just have to experiment for a bit and see what works and what doesn’t. Thank you for playing!

I like the hacking mechanic. It's not too simple but not too complicated either.

It's pretty stressfull trying to keep everything active. I think having things active for a bit longer might balance the game out a bit. Also the instructions that pop up at the start are a bit confusing. I think the text might be shortened a bit. They did their job though, I knew how the game works, after I played it for a few seconds.

The graphics are simple but clear and the shader gives a nice effect.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

I didn’t want any system to work for too long, as that would make the game too easy. Someone suggested adding some form or random events you’d have to deal with, I think if I add those I’ll definitely need to make the consoles active for a longer time.

As for the instruction screen - you’re probably right. I’m considering replacing that with a list of hackable systems and description of what each of them does. I’ll also add a more visual description of the hacking process, once I upgrade it.

I didn't get it. My approximated time untill the crash is 146s according to the timer, but I crashed onto the planet anyway? Gameplay could be made clearer, but it was fun and the and and music indeed fit the game well.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment!

There are three things that can cause you to lose the game: time/distance dropping to 0, life support dropping to 0% or ship’s hull dropping to 0%. If you had a lot of time left, it probably means one of the other two killed you.

Submitted(+1)

Oh right, I assumed that much. A different game over screen for each lose condition would have cleared the doubt I had. Multiple losing conditions are a super good fit for the theme, though!

This game seems really simple at start but once you get the hang of it, it starts to become really complex. It's also easy to get into without being overwhelmed by info, so the pacing is really good. As others have said the music and the art also goes really well with the experience, so overall, well done! :)

Very engaging gameplay, easy to learn, but also really chalenging. The music and graphics fit the theme of the game. Very nice!

What a hard game ! I liked it a lot :D

Nice music! I like the idea, I guess its inspired by FTL. I couldn't beat it, I guess there must be an optimal way I didn't find. I didn't get what do the terminals that are not the oxygen or thrust do.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Funnily enough, it wasn’t inspired by FTL, at least not consciously. As I was developing it I noticed it turned out quite a bit like FTL, so I had to be careful not to make it feel too similar.

As for the terminals - the right one shields the ship from taking more damage, while the left one repairs the hull damage already done. At first I wanted them to be a single console, but I’ve decided it would be more realistic to have the shields and repair system separate. It also differentiated it from the oxygen system, which does both things for the life support. I guess I’ll need to explain it better in game next time.

Thanks again!

Took me a little while to figure out how it worked but it's a cool idea. I like the audio, it really enhances the game in a way that makes sense. Nice.

Developer

Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. ;)

Great submission. It reminded me a lot of Faster Than Light with the panicking and running around. Some more depth can be added to the game through different environmental effects (like asteroids hitting you or something catching fire) and it can turn into a really nice game. Nice music as well.

Overall well done!

Developer

Thanks! I wanted to add some asteroids hitting the ship as another way to visualize damage being done, but actually adding it as another mechanic is a great idea. In addition to running around and hacking consoles the player would have to manually fix equipment and patch hull breaches. Might be something worth exploring! I’ve also had an idea on how to make the hacking something better than just spamming one key, I guess I’ll experiment with it once the jam is done.

I have played about 30 games from this jam so far, and I think this is my favorite music so far, very impressive seriously. It took me a little while to figure out the gameplay, but once i did it , it was pretty fun, the glowing effects were awesome too! Good job guys

Developer

Thank you! I was worried I haven’t spent enough time on the music, there are a few places which I would change or improve. But I’m glad you liked it. :)

Impressive! I was hooked. It's a simple loop but challenging and nervewrecking enough to come back to, although I haven't managed to get under ~0.38 yet. An explainer on what the systems actually do would be nice too, I'm still not sure what the one on the middle-right does. Seems to stop hull damage, and then middle left actually repairs it?

Developer

Thank you! You got that right: the right console is the shield system, protecting your ship from taking damage to the hull, while the left console is the repair system fixing the damage already done.
