The visual is fantastic! Loved these animations a lot! I feel like I played Ori or something, but a bit simpler.
Would like to see if you continue to improve this game!
thank you! I love Ori, can't help but be influenced. hehe. Yes we are updating it once the Jam is officially finished, so see you then!
Oki Doki!
We did an update if you wanna check it out!
the game looks really cool and the art is very cute, i couldn't get past the second level because whenever i got out the spining thingy, my character would fly up to the spikes and die, overall really good job guys!
yeah that second level is a part where we could have benefited massively through more play testing haha thanks for playing!
It's a bit buggy but I love the atmosphere, well done!
We're glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and thanks for playing :D Getting the vibe of the game was tricky because we wanted it to be a little spooky, but ultimately focus on helping the adorable baby bat.
As for the bugs, yeah....lol There's a lot of work we need to do to fix some major bugs in the future. Thanks again :D
We did an update if you wanna check it out!
Was the butterfly added? I don't remember seeing it before and it was a cool timed challenge. Other than that I'm not sure what changed, it still feels buggy and could use more work. There was a bug that let me control the bat and the blue creature at once and it was hilarious. Also one that got me stuck when I proceed to the next level without the bat. btw I think you shouldn't blend the keyboard inputs into the dialogue, that kinda breaks the immersion. Sorry if I'm being too critical, it would be great if it goes more smoothly.
all good! We appreciate the feedback. We did add the firefly to make it clearer that Baxter was following it. We decided to dedicate a small amount of time to just cleaning a few things up before we put it to rest in its final current form. Onto the next game! If you wanna check it out you can here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1614440/Bo/?beta=0
oh so fox bat is a little spinoff of bo, it looks nice, reminds me of hollow knight. Good luck on the game! Also I did a little update for Relink, if you want to give it another go.
A nice platformer with an interesting posession mechanic. I liked the last level as it was sort of an escort mission where you had to clear obstacles in time.
I took a while to understand that you are catapulted upwards when exiting some entities sometimes, maybe I just overlooked an explanation. Also, the "unposession" for the win dialog happens a bit too soon, I died once although I managed to complete the level.
Nice work.
Thanks for playing it to the very end! The unpossession of the ball which shoots you up was a last minute addition before we focused on designing the levels in detail (or at least as much as we could given the time lol). We could've done a better job including some sort of explanation of that mechanic and we'll work on improving that in the future. Thanks again :)
A couple of issues I noticed: 1) I could control the fox with WASD, but when I go into other entities, I can only control them with the arrow keys. 2) The camera in the room with the rollie pollies is tricky because it locks to certain areas for some reason, and if I understand correctly I need to jump left to break the one wall to progress with the bat, but I'm jumping outside the camera area and can't make the jump, 3) when I tried to make a previous jump, the fox did this little hop which did not allow me to make the jump, but then I realized I had to backtrack left and could barely make it through the light - this could have been explained (or it was just me). 4) When I go into the bat, then leave the fox and go into the rollie pollie, I end up controlling both of them, even though I'm no longer in the bat.
Just some critics, but overall I really like and enjoyed the ideas you've implemented! I think with some fine tuning and polishing this could turn out an amazing game! Good one!
Thanks for bringing up some of these issues to light and it's always helpful to point out these issues to us. We agree that all of those issues you pointed out and we'll be fixing, or at least most of them, in an updated patch after the game jam contest has closed.
The only bug that you mentioned which is particularly tricky in code to fix is the 4th one: possessing both the bat and the ball at the same time. That's because we are using a Raycast2D range around the fox to detect possessable objects, which can lead to possession of 2 objects at once if they're both within range. Hopefully that's something we'll restructure in code in the updated patch. Thanks for playing our game :D
I am stuck here because the hero keep shifting out of the bug's body at mach 1.
Yeah, I think the trick is to possess the bat and move it a little bit to the right, near the platforms. Then go to the other side as the demon and jump in the platforms quickly to possess the bat again and avoid dying.
lol. I guess that bug really wants you out of his body. Maybe there's another way to use that height to your advantage 🤔
I loved the game! I liked how intuitive the game was, there really wasn't a point where I didn't know what to do. The art was awesome, I really liked the design of the fox and how he turned into a flower shape at the apex of the jump. I had a few issues though. For one, the hit boxes on some stuff felt pretty large. I hit spikes when leaping off ledges and the bat ran into fire when the visuals didn't line up. I also feel like the possessed characters shouldve used WASD as well, it was a bit weird using both when youre either one character or another. Also i got stuck at the final section. I ran all the way to the right as the fox and fell below the map. Finally you can possess things when youre dead. Overall, really enjoyed the game :)
Wow! Thank you so much for checking it out. Yes the fox was actually a pre existing asset from another game we are working on so the animations are a bit more fleshed out. Glad to know someone enjoyed it. Also you brought some bugs to our attention that we weren't even aware of so thank you! Some of the hitboxes can definitely be tweaked. We agree. Admittedly we didn't have a lot of time for play testing. Thanks again!
Of course! I'd definitely like to see more with those assets. Our team didn't have much time to really play test either so we got some nasty bugs also :) . If you could check our game out, that'd be really cool. Keep up the good work.
Very impressive. I can't help but sees the similarities in vibe/presentation with Hollow Knight and that is a great thing. I like how you did not just create one way to join together with someone else but multiple and in a fun and interesting wait. I did get stuck here which is sad but it was a cool experience.
yeah that area has some missing dialogue that caused bugs so we cut it. But essentially the demon fox can pass through the fire but the bay cannot. Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback. We had one more possession in the works but it was cut for time.
I passed by with the fox but the rolypoly was too high to possess and there are spikes and light that kill the fox. Hence me going "I must be missing something" :)
Good concept, I think there's more to explore with this in the future. I really like the art style and atmosphere. Feels very Hollow Knighty.
It took me a bit to understand how to control the bat. I like the puzzles although I couldn't solve the one with the bug smashing through the walls. I can't get the demon back in time before the dookie smell (lmao) kills me.
Great job, especially in 48 hours! Would love to see a follow up on this.
Thanks so much for the feedback! yeah the key to solving that part is to time all the jumps perfectly. It's difficult but definitely doable! We literally forgot to add the burning timer sound effect in there to help make it clearer how long you burn before you die, so we can get how it discourages the player from continuing since they dont know how much time they have before they die. But yeah theres not really a puzzle there, jsut platforming.
Ah, yea I tried to time it a bit better or to release the demon earlier but died to spikes.
Would love if you could try out my game too.
will do
Awesome graphics, great level design! A bit creepy, but wholesome story. Great job! ;-)
Wow you beat it bugs and all! I think you were the first. Would love to hear about what we could improve. :)
I didn’t encounter any bugs while playing, except for the camera movement, it doesn’t seem to always follow me. But the biggest struggle for me was trying to understand what I need to do, because some parts of the game aren’t very clear. But once you do understand, it’s pretty easy.
Also, as a Linux user, I’d really appreciate a Linux build of the game. :-)
Pretty cool puzzle platformer; I can appreciate the puzzle design here! The music gives a nice "haunting" feel which I think follows the visual design pretty well!
Unfortunately I found I couldn't progress past a certain point (the first part the bat can't pass through) because I couldn't get the camera to consistently follow me. I can't tell if I wasn't intended to go to the other side because after respawning it did follow me, but then wouldn't follow me back to the left.
Great work for two days though!
Thanks so much for checking it out! yeah we are currently ironing out all the little bugs that we couldn't get to during the jam. hopefully the post jam update will improve everything here. Much love!
Good looking game, and it's quite fun but feels a bit arbitrarily punishing. Nice work in 48 hours!
Yeah, I guess you can tell that we didn't play test it very much. haha. I played through lot of the levels and they became little bit too easy for me and I made them bit more difficult, but maybe they re a little too punishing for someone who is plying it for the first time. Thank you for plying though!
Classic, haha :D
Wow you got around alot in 48 hours. I was quite confused as to why I couldn't control the bat. Apparently the bat can only be controlled by the arrow keys and not WASD, but hey ho! The artstyle is gameplay obviously inspired by Hollow Knight. I didn't play it through but enjoyed the beginning.
Yeah we could have been more clear with the controls for sure. That's good feedback! Thanks for checking it out.
Very hard game...
And pretty sad story though...
The ending was even sadder, but we didn't have time to put in all the dialogue to develop the characters. :(
The concept is great and ambitious.
I've found the controls confusing, and the level design might need a bit more work.
There was a section at the beginning with pikes above and below, that was a bit tricky. And when I finally got to the cut scene Bat impaled himself on the spikes :'
Keep it up !
Thank you! yeah admittedly, it definitely was a bit ambitious. This was our first game jam and got a little giddy. However, we learned a lot! Thank you so much for playing. The little bat gets excited easily and sometimes gets a little ahead of himself. haha
Very polished game, although it is a bit buggy
Thank you so much Jeremiah! yeah we really wish we had more time to finish it properly. Maybe we will iron out the bugs in the near future.
