Now that's a fun game! The ship was very uncontrollable at start but then it became a large branch killing everything in view. In the end I destroyed the flag ship in ~2 seconds. Very nice!
Love it! I had a crazy big ship with lots of guns and destroyed everything in my path. Awesome game!
The idea is cool, but in my opinion you should have taken it much further with the consequences of having more ships like slow movement, enemies getting bigger, enemy spawn rate increases, enemy moves fast. I am saying this because I was just madly collecting ships only and the enemies had no chance to come closer. Maybe you can make the ships destroy when they hit bullets of your own too.
yha annoyingly I did have some punishments which you can sort of see in the first wave but some bug I still haven't fount max's your stats at the start of the second round.
I had a pretty hard time moving the ship, but it felt the theme very nicely, the music was very good and it was pretty fun. Good job!
The movement is one of my only complains, the game is preety amazing other than that. Also the objects are way too small to see there direction or what they are, but again a really fun idea and concept, just needs a little more polish
Hey I really like the game! It reminds me of the game we made, with becoming one really big ship, just a totally different way to implement it which was awesome to play!
We made this one:
https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2021/rate/1082563
The game's controls are a bit floaty, as others mention. I often rammed into enemies (also because I didn't realize the movement was based on which direction you were facing).
But am I really the only person who couldn't get through this game? God, I'm not very good at this, am I?
Still, good job!
Neat game! I would really like it if the movement was irrelevant of the mouse position (W would always make you move up, for example). While I can see why it was made this way, it makes it harder to move and shoot at the same time.
With that one complaint out of the way, this game was quite fun and enjoyable!
neat!
As other comments mentioned, there are some GameJam-Symptoms to the game, so i'd just like to point out that that background image doesn't really give me space-y vibes, it reminds me more of a color flipped microscope. That said, it is a pretty neat game and fun to play.
The controls are a bit disorienting at first, i'd keep the directions the same no matter the orientation of the ship in theese kinds of games, but you get used to it. The main mechanic is really fun and it never gets too old seeing your ship become a huge spike of other ships, Even though maybe they shouldn't shoot in the direction you picked them up at? like i have no use for a second gun that shoots slightly to the left, it would be cool to be able to choose the shoot direction once you pick a ship up. The boss battle was very easy, it didn't last long, and it took a bit for me to find it, adding a permanent indication arrow would make the players feel less lost. Overall it was fun and you had a nice idea for the mechanic :)
annoyingly there was an arrow for the boss that broke at the last second, for any one having trouble it spawns in the top left.
pretty unpolished visually and the controls are weird, but the core idea is cool! i think if you polished the presentation and introduced the different ships more gradually (e.g. add new ones throughout the game instead of explaining all of them at the very start), this could be a pretty fun game. it's cool how the ship parts are both offense and defense, and the variety is cool (even if hard to learn all at once lol)
Game can be a bit hard to control and it took me a while to realize that W goes in the direction that your mouse is pointing! Game is a blast to play in a power fantasy sort of way even if it's not very deep. Just casually suck up every ship in your vicinity and unleash hell upon everything
This concept of linking things to build your ship is really clever, and fits the theme well! The art is fairly decent, and the gamplay is super simple, addicting and fun. Good use of sound effects and the physics movement felt fun to control.
Although feeling fun to control, the controls themselves were a little wonky and it took me a bit to get used to them. Acceleration is a bit slower than I'm used to so turning and getting to top speed was a tad difficult. Also, the game was very easy to get overpowered in early; you can balance this a bit more by having these joinable parts only be acquired by killing enemies (Like broken parts drifting in space).
Overall this is a really unique submission! Keep it up!
yha I deffo leaned towards easy, It doesn't help that starting at wave 2 for some reason your fire speed stat gets maxed out when you should need to collect satellite ships to achieve that. thanks for the feedback
Great game! Has been a lot of fun playing it! I absolutely love the idea you had there with building your ship! Cool stuff :)
Love the idea of building your own ship, although mine looked like a total mess after a while :D Fun and original entry, enjoyed it a lot!
Just thought I would throw out, there is YouTube vid of a full run on the games main page and I've timed a few runs and you should be able to complete the game in about 4-5 minuets if you follow the green arrow when it is on screen.
Fun little game, great that you can skip the intro :)
Hey I did something really similar to you! This was a cool take on the idea but as others have said the controls were quite hard to manage.
ooh, cool I will deffo give yours a go! Just to help me understand what people are finding hard, is it the floatyness of the controls? or knowing what they are? or something else?
Ah I mean the floatyness! Like holding a key and waiting for the ship to move and being slow to change direction. I prefer when it's more immediate however that being said there could be situations where less responsive controls fit what you are trying to do. Also I think it would be easier to control if the direction keys resulted in world space movement rather than ship relative if that makes sense. Of course this is just one opinion on the matter :)
Thanks for the feedback!
Very interesting concept, but a little bit difficult to control. I liked that there was a mini map, and I also like that you added a storyline into the game. Nice job!
Thanks! It was my first time doing a top down game so I probably made some rookie errors, also the space ships seem to have some odd physics once you have a few attached
some post release notes:
I might have messed up the buttons so they don't work on none 1080 resolution, if so sorry.
There is meant to be a boss direction indicator but it broke just before the deadline so as a hint the boss spawns in the top right of the map.
Also your stats get max during the second wave for some reason
