How does your game fit the theme?
You play as a door that has to reach the main character. We tried to swap the properties of objects to their reverse, like a ball pit being very dangerous or breathing underwater and drowning in the air

A nice spin a video game tropes. I wanted to see some alligators tho!

Developer(+1)

Oh we had an alligator but unfortunately it glitched out and sometimes it pops up sometimes it doesn't, super frustrating!

Submitted

Oh yeah. My game had you play aiast a guy named Tony. You never see Tony. He had art done, but I spent so long playtesting and balancing he was only in by name.

Nice little game! The idea of inverting standard video game environmental objects is neat! Just wish it was a bit longer, and maybe had some of those different ideas work together, rather than being one per level.

Thank you for the feedback! Oh gosh we would have loved to make more levels but 48 hours didn't quite allow haha, maybe we will in the future! I love the idea of combining levels too!

This game is amazing! Not only did you stick with the basic idea of reversing the role of player and door, but you're constantly subverting all kinds of expectations, in a very clever way. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for the kind feedback we really apricate it =)

Played on stream! See the video for timestamp.

When I started playing I thought. Okay, you control the exit instead of the character in a platform game. But then, what differentiates it (in practice) from a standard platform game?

But the game itself slammed the door in my face, never better said. Each level reinterprets some classic platform game mechanic in a super funny way. Overall, I laughed a lot.

Congratulations, good job!

We're so happy you think so! We thought really hard about how to implement the theme without just reversing the normal roles (I.e princess saves the prince) and thought the materials would be a great twist and hopefully humorous as well, so your comment means a lot!)

i love how quirky and unique this game is, i dont think ive played anything like it. the art and animation is perfect, i love all the door animations haha

Developer(+1)

Eee thank you for the feedback it means a lot!! <3

It only clicked for me on level five that the roll reversal in this game is the mechanics in each level. That being said, this game is not hard, but it is a fun little showcase of how mechanics work if they are the opposite of what is expected, without feeling blatantly and intentionally unfair. Also I appreciate the title only having to do with one small part in one level, nice game.

Developer(+1)

Yup! =) We wanted to mix it up a bit for the theme! The other part of role reversal is the door reaching the man instead, but we mainly focused on the materials and the jokes- more so then making gameplay hard. Thank you for leaving a review!

Great ideas!
All levels has it's unique feature was a clever move.

Well done

This game was very chaotic. Loved playing as the door.

Submitted(+3)

The game is cute and charming. I love how many things are reversed compared to a normal game.

I really like the animation for the door walking and it's a funny idea well done :) I had to jump in the ball pit I just couldn't resist!

Cute game! Nice sound and graphics! Loved the little taunts! The hidden corridor in the last level was perfect! Love finding secrets! Let's see, what else? Controls are a bit unpolished, but I guess you knew that. I really enjoyed your "let's try everything we can think of" approach to reversing roles!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

I've reused and tweaked over 3 games the 2d platformer control / physics system that I designed for a jam back in april. I'd really appreciate if you could let me know what exactly you find unpolished about the controls, so I could improve them. Thanks for the feedback btw!

Submitted(+1)

Perhaps I mispoke. Maybe it wasn't a problem with the controlls. I tested it again and they look fine. I just had a general feeling of something not really clicking for me and I blamed the controls. Playing again, I think it might be the level design? It's hard to know. It's a general feeling of "I feel like I should be able to make that jump" and not being able to. Also on level 3 there is an instance of sticking to the wall so you can jump again, and since I've done it once (the right wall of the pit is sticky) I expected to do it again for the rest of the game, and by not being able to, it gave me some kinesthetic dissonance?  Again, it's hard to really pinpoint what I felt, so I'm sorry if I'm not much of a help. Maybe if I'm the only one complaining, is something that can be ignored as an outlier experience.

It was really funny ! Definitely forgot about the name of the game, that gag was really good

There are theme ideas here for multiple games! Fun game with lots of subversions.

Submitted(+3)

Wonderful work! I loved that you took the theme and pushed it even further! Lovely art and music as well - also loved the alligator! ♥

Submitted(+3)

Very nice! The twists of each level were very creative, the death messages were funny, I loved the music, and the art was adorable as well. Great job especially for 48 hours!

Submitted(+4)

Really neat. The game needs a few levels before the gameplay gets interesting, but when it started, it was a really fun and challenging platformer!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback we appreciate it!

This game really caught me off guard. The deaths had me cracking up! The music/art were really polished, I loved it.

Developer

We're so happy it made you laugh, thank you for your feedback!

Submitted(+3)

Awesome game! The art, music, sound effects all combined creates a very distinct and enjoyable atmosphere. Really well polished, great work!

Submitted(+4)

Very nice game! I love the art and music as well as the whole theme of it!

The behavior of the door is weird... which totally fits this jams theme! I enjoy the animation of it and that it can jump of the wall, swim and get eaten by those amazingly animated alligator!

Just so cute and unique! Loved it!

Developer(+1)

Yay! Oh thank you for the feedback it means a lot!
