I didn't expect to see such a terrifying "boss fight" from the start with such a peaceful and cozy premise, big fan of the fish, big fan of the art too.

Developer

Yeah we were going for a little bit of shock value there! Hopefully the expanding camera and music helped clue you in! So glad to have you play our game!

Developer

I love twisting people's expectations so I'm especially glad the worm survived the cut. Thank you so much for playing, and so happy to hear you liked it that much!

Submitted

Holy cow! This is an incredible game for the time y'all had to work on it. Feels like a finished product. The art and characters are so cute! Music is really good. Lots to do and explore. I could go on but I'm sure y'all already know you killed it ; ). Really goes to show what an organized large team can get done!

Developer(+2)

WOOO Thank you so much for the support!! As an artist, I know I personally couldn’t have done it without our manager :D Really happy to hear that you liked the game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Manager speaking, coordination is everything! A team of two doesn’t magically double output and that extends to a team of six (plus an extra musician for a last minute track and VA) My job is to get us as a group to as close as maximum effectiveness as I can and I’m super happy to be working with people that can make that happen with me!

Took me a moment to realise what to do. I dived as far as possible without scanning any fish. Then I realised.

This game feels incredibly polished and fantastic artwork all round.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Looking back I do agree that we should’ve added in few texts for tutorial, or made it more clear in the opening comic that the player is supposed to scan fish. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it though :)

You could tell me this was a finished game and I'd be hardpressed to disagree. Very well done!

Developer

Hahah thanks so much for playing!!

What an experience! Everything about the atmosphere was perfect! Whoever worked on the art was talented. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! Me and Emiliano worked on the art together, with him making most of the lineart and color indication while I colored it in to be time efficient.

Developer

As the dev who implemented the stun mine*, I can say that it was one of the more fun things to make and balance. Glad you enjoyed the game :)

*No fish were harmed in the making of stun mines.

WOW this is already a fully complete game. Well done for the jam and a very unique take on the theme with gorgeous artwork to back it up. Not to mention the sounds! The voice acting! The music that changes when you find something spooky! Absolutely brilliant.

Developer

Thanks for playing! We have two very talented artists and a powerhouse for our music and SFX team, who are all happy that you enjoyed their work.

Genuinely the best game I've played so far. Polish it up a little more & I would even pay a little money to play this if it was on Steam. Good work guys!

Developer

That makes me very happy to hear, we were considering expanding on this post-jam. Thanks so much for playing and for your kind words!

Well i'm super surprised, the art is really really beautiful, the submarin is a bit slow to me but it might be to enforce the exploration in the depth. I enjoyed that you show every inputs on the UI. Also the UI is super clean and the transition super smooth (i'm curious on how you did that effect !) I loved to discover species and i could have kept playing for a looooong time, goood job !! :D

Developer

Thank you so much for the support :D As the UI artist, I’m super grateful that you like the UI :)) I think Daniel is working on a little transition tutorial after he saw this comment as well!!

Developer(+1)

Haha yeah, submarine speed was difficult to determine what felt right because we wanted to enforce exploration but also didn't want it to feel too sluggish. Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed it so much!

As for the UI transition, it's just a bunch of anchored squares that squash and stretch! I attached some screenshots to show how I did it.

Okkk it's way easier than i thought !! But it's working perfectly sogood job ! No need of shader so it's perfect ahah

Awesome game with a lot of depth (in every sense of the word) ! Beautiful art style ! Neat gameplay : It so fun to explore and scan more and more fishes ! A big "wow" for this game !

Developer

The entire team is ecstatic hearing all this positivity towards our game. This being a first jam for so much of the team it’s been a big thing for them to experience this all. Thank you so much for playing our  game!

Really awesome work! Though it's not quite my kind of game, it's got a good gameplay loop and and awesome aesthetic. Unfortunately I ran into a situation where one of the bigger ones kept circling me, making intentional suicide the only way to leave.

Honestly, with a lot of work, I could see this becoming a small full release.

Developer

With so many people telling us that Out of Depth could be it’s own game and my own head full of ideas we are genuinely making this exact consideration. It might take quite a few months and will probably involve starting from scratch so that everything can be exactly as we originally had imagined. Thank you for playing and we’re glad you enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks for checking out my submission! That behaviour was intentional but for some reason the worm doesn't close in more to hurt you and then push you out of the circle - for some reason if it catches you it'll keep encircling you sadly lol. Thank you for playing and glad you found the loop interesting!

Beautiful game, great execution! Fabulous work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for rating our game! It means a lot!

Submitted(+1)

So cool, I'm a fan of marine environments and deep sea creatures so this really worked for me (and the art for the animals was great). I also really liked the shift in dynamic and tone when the bobbit worm appeared, really changed from "chill vibes exploration" to "oh I might die". Very nice!

Developer

Thank you so much! That was the goal for us and we're super happy it resonated with you and so many others.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

At first I had doubts about the theme, in fact I think it works well.

It's not really my type of game, but I had fun. And wow the quality of the characters I love <3

The quality of the project is good, it’s impressive, well done! I will follow your work <3

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much. As a new group with a lot of uncertainty moving forward into commercial products and "going legit" hearing this makes us more confident that we'll be ok!

Submitted(+2)

Lots of lovely art on display!

I think that the menu UI could be more clearly separated from the background.

A good number of features implemented during the time frame - solid work!

Developer

Menus were one  of the big challenges to design for us since our UI artist wasn't always on the same page as our programmer putting the art in. If we had an additional couple of hours we might've considered redoing them but this is what we had at the time. We'll be sure to put visibility and ease of use further up the list of priorities moving forward. Thank you so much for playing our game!

Submitted(+1)

Super polished game! The game starts very relaxing, but the deeper you go the scarier it gets. I really like that! My only minor complaint would be too long menu transitions. Great work!

Developer (1 edit)

Hehe yeah you might be right about that. We’re glad you enjoyed the game! Thanks for the feedback too 😄

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that is awesome

Developer

Thanks for rating!

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game ! Well polished with lovely visuals (and CAT ! :3 )

Developer

Thank you! Our team does love cats 😁
