Excellent use of the theme with a genre I haven't seen much of in the jam! This is simple, but it's a solid submission. It could benefit from some additional audio/visual feedback and juice, but I'm sure that's just a result of our short time in the jam. Great job!

Such a cool game! I don't know if I was supposed to fail after battling the 8, 8, 8, monster, but I did and it did feel like a satisfying ending to a "battling against all odds" kind of game. The strategy behind moving, merging and dividing is super well thought through and I feel like there are lots of was to play the game. It had a bunch of "oh yeah I am so smart-  wait no!"-Moments. Definetly one of my favourites so far!

This is pretty interesting. Really like the idea of dividing and merging, though I was lost at first. Cool!

Very interesting game with unique mechanics. It has a lot of potential for strategic depth and the graphics are good enough, except I would maybe change the default buttons to fit the sci-fi theme a bit better. I had to restart though, in the tutorial one of my units dissapeared and i got softlocked :/

Except for the one bug, really good work!

What an amazing design for a turn-based combat system. I love this !

Unique idea, and well implemented... well done!

Great game.  I may have lost two hours trying to beat it before finally wining with a single city left lol

Submitted(+1)

This was challenging. A lot of fun though. Nice job!

The color Palette 🎨 and characters you chosed for the game were mind-blowing. I have always had a great love for war and strategy games

Keep up the good work.

Check and rate my as well :}

You really nailed a vibe here. The sprites, palette, sound effects, and voice acting play really well together. I was a bit confused at first during the recovery turns why I couldn't click anything other than end turn, so some user feedback on click may have been helpful to make it clear it's not a bug. Otherwise, though, I thought the first few turns were really well tutorialized to explain the merge/divide mechanic, and the UI in general was easy to use and understand. Also, the ending (or at least the one I got) was so on brand for you. Commander's cameo was 10/10, XD.  Nice work!

Developer

Thanks! There's a few places where I was missing some obvious feedback for actions that don't do anything, unfortunately.

Also, yeah, I was really chuffed with the little moments with the commander, haha

i think it would be good to have the end turn automatic if possible. great job on the entry!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I thought of doing that (or at least having the end turn button ping or something), but I didn't have any way of telling whether someone is done dividing and want to move on. And I thought it was important for strategy reasons that you be able to divide after moving.

Anyway, thanks for playing!

A very interesting take on the theme. Reminds me of Pacific Rim a little (Sorry that I'm not super familiar with mech movies hehe)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, there's definitely a bit of Pacific Rim in there! Thanks for giving it a try!

Really cool game with a lot of movie and game references.

Really loved this entry! Rich, engaging, and polished. Dig the retro feel of the game. The style reminded me a bit of old-school games. Mech Commander's UI came to mind. The voice acting is also a great addition that really adds a cool edge to the game.

Took me a while to spot the End Turn button. Might look at placing it somewhere else or designing it to be more visible. Also, had a bit of trouble figuring out the 'Merge' mechanic. Still couldn't manage to merge after a few tries.

All in all, a great experience and would dig to see it evolve further. Great work!

I liked the game! Though I ran into an issue where I couldn't merge and I couldn't figure out why. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Hm. One other person has also reported that bug (assuming this is after merge is unlocked, in the third wave of enemies -- i.e. the ogre class). Did ending your turn solve that? Usually when things got weird, I could solve it with a turn end, but I think the other person said that didn't work.

Anyway, thanks for playing and letting me know!

Submitted(+1)

No, after I ended my turn I was still running into the same issue. Best of luck with the jam!

It felt a bit overwhelming at first, to much information and ui popping. But at the end was pretty enhoyable ;)

Submitted(+1)

Very nice submission. I like the implementation of theme, and it takes some strategizing. Feels smooth too. Well done :)

Submitted(+1)

It took me some time to fully understand the mechanics, but in the end I find it really clever and enjoyable.

Good job!

Submitted(+1)

I like the divide mechanic it's clever

Tried about 4 times, got to wave 6 I think, good gameplay. My strategy became splitting and merging to rebalance my stats for the current wave, only defending one or two cities. I like this interpretation of the theme, and style of game. Only issue I found — one time I died I had a unit get stuck with permanently 0 AP, could not move or divide.

Developer

Whoops, sorry about that bug. Don't know what happened there.

As for your strategy, yeah, I think because I didn't have time to put in some kind of grading for how many cities you lost, a viable method is to just have one massive unit defending a single city and just leaving the rest to be destroyed, which is not ideal.

Anyway, thanks for playing, and I'm glad you liked the gameplay!
