How does your game fit the theme?
Built to Scale is a puzzle-platformer where players must strategically manipulate platforms to escape five enchanted forest locations. The key challenge lies in balancing the scaling of platforms and the totem—the only exit. As platforms are scaled up by clicking arrows, the totem scales down, making it harder to escape. Missteps can trap you forever if the totem sinks below ground! The game explores creative spatial manipulations, with later levels introducing 3D rotations to clear paths. A unique art style with dynamic scaling and toon shading adds a trippy visual twist, enhancing the surreal experience. Plan carefully—your moves are limited!

Loved the art direction, it was dreamy and trippy, the shader on the arrow-like posts was fantastic. I played in web and yeah the controls were a little funky, but good game nonetheless!

Developer

thanks! yeah, spent a lot of time adjusting the toon shader, trying to make it match the vibe I was going for. I'll definitely fix the bugs and update the game after the jam.

artstyle in this game is quite unique! really appreciate the small details like the bugs flying around!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I wanted to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone with this one, exploring an art direction I wouldn't typically pursue

Very cool style.

Developer

thanks!

I really like the aesthetic, everything in the game is just really dream-like and beautiful

The gameplay is a bit buggy and it would be nice to have a sensitivity setting. But the graphic style is amazing, I really enjoyed wandering through the levels

Developer

thanks!

Cool atmosphere, well done!

Cool shader effect, nice atmosphere.

Cool take on the theme. Aside from the the difficulty of controlling the player and the fact that I kept getting caught on weird hitboxes of the objects, I though the game was great. I liked the aesthetic and would totally play more levels if I could.

What a creative puzzle game, and gorgeous aesthetic! Definitely had me scratching my head in a few places but never in a frustrating way! A small quality of life thing I noticed was that the bounds to click the platforms to scale them seemed a bit wonky at times, maybe adding a glow or some effect to the platform you're currently hovered over could give the player more feedback? Overall, very fun and satisfying game :)

yeah, definetly agree with you. The thing is, I'm aware of some of the issue certain folks mentioned in the comment section, but as I was making this in parallel with my regular full time job on Monday and Tuesday - then barely even had time to publish this before the deadline >< haha  BTW I'm planning of adding 5-10 more levels in a couple of weeks ,making it mobile friendly, and pushing it to google play so all these comments and remarks are more than welcome. A big thanks for that!

Submitted(+1)

Totally get it - deadlines are brutal and you have to prioritize making the actual game haha. Would love to see the full release!

Developer

thanks! will send it to you in a couple of weeks then :D

Cool concept. The atmosphere is suitably eerie though it took a bit to figure out exactly how to interact with the platforms. Had some issues with the controls feeling a bit slippery (Windows build) and unfortunately had to stop as it was giving me motion sickness. Nice job

Good game, Got some controls issues with the web build,  and I some time lose because I missclick the exit and make it go out of bound xD, but great environment and sound design !

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

@everyone , if you have mouse sensitivity/mouse not locking in issues, you can try the windows build  which has no mouse-locking issues whatsoever (+ has nicer looking shaders as web gl build does have its limits..)

web build seems to be pretty laggy, and like the others have mentioned mouse sensitivity and cursor not locking to the game. the game could use more polish specially with the movement and controls since it felt a bit too floaty, but other wise it was a fairly interesting game (˵ • ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

yeah.. the web build only has it for some reason . Works fine on the windows build (which is also available for download)

Submitted(+1)

Really cool atmosphere and look, the web version's mouse sensitivity is a little high, seems like the mouse isn't getting set to locked state. Very fun platformer though, well done & keep it up!

Nice atmosphere!

Submitted(+1)

very cool game, the mouse sensivity is quite high for me but gg !

Interesting visual style, but the sound effects are a bit obnoxious, especially the one for scaling things up

Submitted(+1)

Great game, had some difficulties playing on the web version but everything aside from that was very well done :)

Developer(+1)

thanks! yeah the windows build has no cursor locking issues..

Submitted(+1)

The game’s setting and lighting are beautifully mysterious.

Developer

thanks! 🎭🌲

The mechanics and graphics are interesting, I like the trippy visuals. My cursor didn't lock into the game, which made it sometimes difficult to navigate the stage.

Developer (1 edit)

@dan , thanks!

Yeah, it only happens in the browser version of the game for some reason... If you download the Windows build - it locks-in normally (+ the graphics/shaders are even better in the windows build)
