Using your own engine is a neat challenge! The game looked great visually, my biggest issue was I never felt penalized for using a block in a suboptimal spot. I seemed to get away with just placing them at random just fine. Congrats of the submission!

This feels like there are a lot of strategic calculations of buffs and modifiers under the surface but I never felt like I was making much of an informed choice when placing pieces, just trying to slot them down as quickly as possible wherever they would fit. Eventually the shooting sound effect began to grate on me and I gave up. The mechanic of stacking the shapes was a really nice touch but it very quickly got too messy to know at a glance how high any given tile was.
Thanks for the inputs. I didn't had the time to put everything that I had planned and I focused on a simpler finished game loop instead of more complex one. The complexety will come with upcoming updates ! I already refactored the visibility of the tile height but I still need to work more on balancing the sound effects !
Really cool, creative take on a tower defense game! Like others have said, it would be nice if the blocks visibly changed as they got higher, and I think some upgrades and stuff beyond just stacking more would also be nice, but still a really good time. Definitely becomes some stressful clicking to defend off waves at the end, and I think it's great!
cool game! wish it was more clear how high each block was though.
my winning strategy was to build a 9x9 grid to lvl1 around the king, then a 7x7 grid on top to lvl 2, and 5x5 grid to lvl3, then a 3x3 grid to lvl 4. then try to build up more but I quickly forgot how high each block was so I just started spam clicking everywhere until I died at 11+ minutes
very cute game ! love this game idea so much ,wish for more content to play
Really impressive submission. Found myself too engaged to stop .
In the description it suggest that you want to build atop of this game, i would suggest a better height view using the right click (show more height numbers around the clicked tile, or nearby differences, or something like that. As it is now it is easy to lose sights of the height and reading the height one by one is not user friendly).
But this is just an idea. Otherwise this is totally above avarage submission for a jam. Good job!!
Making your own engine to make this game is an truly impressive feat so already that is worthy of praise. You have a great starting point for a deeper game here where your block placement and what you place on top of could create a lot of additional strategy. I would also suggest for readability it might be easier for the player to see the height of the towers if all blocks where the same colour on the same floor. Then at a glance you could see how tall your structure is. Great work getting this done!
Absolutely insane flex to do this in your own engine. The sound definitely gets a little crunchy when your base gets really big but it honestly helps to sell the scale. It’s very satisfying when a ton of the enemies are grouped together to crush them all by sacrificing a block. Ends up being quite the frantic battle in the end and I’m all for it. Very well done!
Innovative! I had fun playing it, but I think the tutorial at the beginning is unnecessary.
idk why, but I find the graphics very cute although hehe
Verry interesting take on a tower defense. Its really fun, id love to se what you do with it!
This was really fun, and amazing that it was built in a hand-crafted game engine. In the web version, I experienced a couple of crashes where the game would just freeze up, and I didn't even realise you could stack blocks on top of each other until the third time I played. I think making it clearer where blocks can fit when building up would improve the enjoyment. Fantastic work!
Thank you for taking the time to play the game ! Glad you liked it even with the issues that you had :/ May i know which browser you are using, I only tested with the latest version of chrome so I don't know how other browser react !
I am working on a new visual indicator that in my opinion will help greatly the visibility of the tower placement but I can do only so much during a jam xD
Thank you again for your review !
Fun game! The music was a great fit and I really enjoyed the strategic "layers" haha
Just placing things felt very fun and satisfying lol. Though I wish the game was a bit more faster or the item prices were more balanced. But yeah balancing during jams are quite the task.
Thank you for taking the time to play the game ! I did try to polish as much as i could the tower placement so I am quite happy that you found it satisfying ! Yes balancing is sooo hard and I didn't add a working mvp until the third day which made playtest a bit hard and rush ! Will try to upgrade the difficulty curve in future releases :)
This game gets chaotic really fast XD Cool game, my favourite touch was the binary 1 and 0 to show when you can/can't build.
One improvement would be to set a cap on the number of sounds at once, it was so loud near the end :p
