Enemies getting stuck within you is a problem. Else i liked the pixel transitions and the art within the game.

I had a great time playing it.

The rolls a very unfair sometimes, others you get very lucky!

Well done!

Hey wow, we had a really similar concept :D Nice game, I mostly liked the mechanics and die effects, but losing my sword was my death sentence :)

It's a cool idea, but I found all the special effects unpleasant and distracting.

A very neat game!

Critique:

  • As mentioned previously, having the "-2 HP" effect was annoying because it often was the main reason for my deaths in the game
  • Hitboxes for the player could be made slightly bigger - quite often, I had to get almost into the enemy to hit it

Pros:

  • Giving the player the ability to roll as many dice as he wishes was an interesting idea. Kind of like allowing to gamble - you don't know what you will get, but if you are really feeling lucky, then go ahead
  • I like how you added debuffs as potential outcomes of throwing dice. It not only balances the game but also prevents you from exploiting the buff receiving mechanic

Good job!

Hi John! Thanks for the detailed feedback.

Wow, really cool game, well done. Your tutorial is great - it's a bit wordy, but it helped me to pick up the game play first go, and then stick around to try to beat your high score (which I wasn't able to do). I agree with a lot of the suggestions for improvement - but this is a really impressive game for a 48 hour jam.  A fun and challenging game, with good bug-free mechanics and a great soundscape.

Interesting idea of stacking buffs and weapon system - but I felt like the dice rolled too fast during gameplay and lmb for right hand while rmb for left hand wasa little unintuitive. Otherwise really cool mechanics for this jam :)

Liked the idea. Nice that you had the time to add a tutorial. The die rolling itself and killing me was frustrating. It feels too random and hard on me. I like the idea of curses that was posted below. Also, pickups might have been nice to get some life back after 3 -2 life rolls.

Really cool idea! I clicked play before playing the tutorial and was very confused but the tutorial managed to clear everything up so good job on that! The sound effects were really neat and i liked the "skeletons" left when enemies died. The die mechanic could take a more center stage to make rolling more of a gamble, instead of just trying to get a gun.

Nice art style and satisfying sound effects! Gameplay was enjoyable too in overall. I wish the sword and the gun were different colors because I had a hard time telling which one was in my hand. Also some of the dice effects (like “-2 health”) were a bit odd because they just happen without any way to prevent it, and dying that way was kind of frustrating. Maybe it would help if they were something like a curse (“-2 health in 10 seconds if you don’t kill an enemy” for example)?

That is actually a really good idea! Maybe I will incorporate that if I want to work on this game after the jam.

Nice visuals and sounds, gameplay was good but I wish the standard punch had a bit more range and that enemies didn't just sprint right up to the player.

Ayyy noice game :D

REALLY LIKE THE CONCEPT, thoo you could make the puch thingy have a bit more range?

but other than that, epic juice, cool music and sound fx, veri epic game :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I really liked the simple visuals! The game was hard too! The crunchy sounds are nice too. This might just be me, but I couldn't get shooting to work. It was right click, right?

Developer

Strange...I don't know what the problem might be. Did you get the gun from a dice roll first?

Submitted

That might be it maybe i misinterpreted the rules. I’ll try it again later!

The gameplay is really nice and i really liked the visuals!

Well done! The game feels and looks very nice.

The only thing that bugged me was the enemies that just sprinted right towards you when they appeared. The enemy blocks just kept piling up. I would probably prefer more if they came slowly (at the same speed as when they are following you)

I love how juicy this games feels. A little slow at times but the randomness of the dice and your stats was very entertaining to play around with. Nice stuff! :)

It was kinda hard. But I really enjoyed some of the random combinations like when I had a sword and a gun.  I think it would be nice with planned levels instead and fast paced kinda like Ape Out.

Thanks for the feedback! I had this idea for a while (about a year) and it was initially meant to be a turn based roguelike. When the theme was revealed, I wanted to use the idea, but realised I had no idea how to make a turn based roguelike and turned it into an arena battler. But I think that this suggestion may work really well assuming I turned this into a full game or something.

This is such a cool game! The punching and shooting mechanic is  really cool  :)
