Dig dug with dice - nice!

Submitted(+1)

To think that you went from Scratch to Game Maker…

Anyways, it looks like a good game but it lacks some… depth. All you do is spam the x and a direction key to dig, trying to collect dice that seemingly don’t do anything…

The drills also insta-kill you around like level 3 so there’s that.

All I’m saying is that you could have like added some distractions like an enemy or other dice variants that give different results, the game’s pretty neat tho.

thanks! I've fixed some of the poor design in the post jam version that I'll release when the voting period's over. as for going from scratch to gamemaker... is that a good thing or a bad thing lol. not offended if its a bad thing just wondering

Bro, moving from scratch to a cool as nails engine like Game Maker is like one of the best decisions you could have made! I hope to play any games you make in the future!

Your games looks really pretty, but a bit empty. It feels like you didn't have time to add more elements, and it's too bad because the gameplay is really enjoyable! I hope you'll take time to add stuff to your game, I'm sure it can turn into something really amazing.

I had a problem while playing, after three of four level the drill would spawn at the same time as I did, killing me instantly, over and over again :(

Thanks for the feedback. I've created a post-jam version that I will release in a little bit. In this version, I've fixed the bug that kills you on level 3 as well as making the drill follow you a little closer. I've re-done level layouts and balanced stats a bit more. And I re-made some of the bad art like the tiles and drill.

I just followed you so I can have the chance to test this new build!

Developer

thanks!

A very good game with nice art. I wish that the collectable dice could be used for something else and force you to decide whether to use it on that or your stats.

The art was awesome! Cant wait to play the post jam version :)

Developer

thanks! I'll make a devlog when its out but fyi it will be as soon as the voting period ends/game pages are unlocked

The visuals are awesome, the animation is super cute! The sound of the drill from the top should be there even if you can't see it.

Developer

thanks for the feedback. I made the drill quiet when off the screen because i thought people would find it annoying but I will change that right now. also i've been working on brand new visuals for the post jam version :)

I really liked the gamble of each stat; if you have a 3 or a 4, you want to improve it, but a roll could also make it worse. A clever use of the dice mechanic; nice work.

I ran into a bug after two (I think?) levels, where the moment I dropped into the next level, the drill just immediately kills me (i.e. before I even drop to the floor). It then kicks me to the start, but if I go down (where it previously worked), the same thing happens.

But anyway, this was a fun little game; well done!

Developer

yes lol. you die on level 3. I've since fixed the bug for the post jam version. I'm sorry that cut your run short. But thanks anyway for playing and I'm glad you liked the dice mechanic :)

Maybe I'm stupid but I can't do anything, Ive tried evey key in my keyboard but can't get though the title screen :(

Developer

Hey, I should have made the title screen more clear. In the title screen, you actually have full control over the character. the basic controls are left/right arrow to move and "z" to jump.  Press "x" to dig in the direction you are facing, or hold up/down while you press "x" to dig up/down. to get out of the title screen, you have to just dig down through the dirt.

Reminds me of shovel knight dig! I like the stats upgrades but I didn't know if they stacked or were removed every level.

Developer

1) It is inspired by shovel knight dig. I was getting tired of waiting for it to release so I made my own. 2) the stats are replaced each round

The art is incredible. I really like the mechanic with the stats, and I'm legit astonished that you were able to do this in 48 hours. Nice job :)

Developer

thank you! Post jam version coming as soon as the file uploads are unlocked

Developer
