I liked it! Was a really cool and fun game! I think if fire had a red halo I'd pay more attention to them XD I think I didn't have air control too, which felt a bit surprising for a game that is so about being in the air, but I suppose it is a way to pushes you to think more carefully to where you grab. Really liked the background!
Thanks for the feedback! The air control has already been substantially tweaked to allow easier movement, so I'm hesitant to add even more. I'll probably add difficulty levels in the future to ease up the trickiness of certain parts :D
Incredible what your team managed to achieve in just a week. Especially in your case, as this has been your first Game Jam. I haven't experienced anything in the 3 levels that I could critizise. Though I have 2 ideas for possible additions/improvements in mind:
- When I first saw the melee animation, I intuitively thought, you could stick an arrow into bonfires to light them on fire for increased damage. Perhaps there could be a level at pitch black night where you can only see through bonfires and burning arrows.
- It would be cool if the arrows were fired in an arc. If you hold the fire button long, it will fire farther and if your cursor is farther away when releasing the button, it will shoot straighter. Same goes vice versa.
Thank you! Your ideas are interesting, they'll definitely be considered if ever we decide to expand on this game :)
well done.
Thanks :)
I got addicted to it so fast! it was fun!
I'm happy you liked it! :)
It's a bit hard to play on laptop with no mouse buttons:) Good visuals and music, smooth and simple animations look great!
Hello! Thanks for the feedback! You may use F instead of left click to attack, in direction of mouse, as well as V instead of right click to launch the grapple, in direction of mouse. I specified it only on the game page and not in-game, so I understand why it's easy to miss. I hope you find those controls more suited to your setup :)
I enjoyed playing. Loved the music and thought it fit really well. Jumping and grappling around was fun too. Wondering if a controller option might be nice (I'm not great at WASD platformers). Also seemed like sometimes my grapple would disconnect too soon or not connect at all when it appeared to hit the ceiling. Definitely a challenging game (I was finding myself wishing I had more health or could pick up health pickups).
Great job
Thanks for the feedback! A controller option sounds easy enough to implement through the input map, though I'm not familiar with common setups for controller button mapping there. Do you have any suggestions? :)
Yeah, your grapple probably reached its limit before it hit the solid part of the trees. In future iterations, I'll make the solid part more obvious to reduce problems like that. Thank you! :)
As for it being challenging, I'll consider adding difficulty levels in the future! :)
hmm. I fired it up and held my controller (Xbox 360) and my fingers naturally wanted to use the right trigger to fire the grapple and the right joystick to aim. not sure if that's the best combo, but it was what my instincts suggest to start with. movement with left joystick and maybe add the attack and an additional option to jump using the other 4 buttons.
I don't mind testing future versions if you decide to add a controller option after the jam (@johnstein on discord or message me here).
So I replayed this one properly (the stream was a complete mess) and I had fun. Good job! Maybe just add some levels + different enemies and improve the parallax , because right now it looks a bit weird how it cuts of above the holes.
Thank you! Yes, if I expand on this, I'll definitely add more levels and enemies. I'll fix the parallax as well :)
Very well done, a lot of work went into this! It looks great, it plays good, so I think many things were done right. Congratulations!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
Damn, that's really polished. Art, sound, gameplay... everything top notch.
It sure is one of the best entries in this jam. Impressive!
Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed it that much :D
This game is my favorite!
Also i think that we have similar games, its funny :)
But one thing is confused me: so beatiful background, but so agly characters (not art, but resolutions. i think that u can do something with this and have very good game as result)
Controls, theme, gameplay, music. Its really fun and fantastic.
Good work!
I'm pretty sure the devs forgot to disable the filter option when importing character assets.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
Regarding the characters: yes, they're filtered right now. In my first upload I forgot to unfilter it, thankfully I was reminded by one of the earlier commenters. When I unfiltered it however, I realized that it messed up the outlines I placed on the characters. It also didn't match the background anymore, so I reversed my decision and filtered the characters again. Maybe in future iterations I'll fix the character sprites to mesh with the background better, even when unfiltered :)
The character sprite in the main menu is unfiltered though!
The background looks super good! Killing enemies with the arrow is really satisfying and I ended up mostly using the arrow to kill.
It'd be cool if the fires had a double purpose, maybe if something like you can shoot your arrow through fire to power it up as a fire arrow or something!
Thanks! Interesting idea about the fire! I'll consider it in future versions if I expand on this game :)
The grappling hook just feels so good. Good job!
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed the grappling hook mechanic as much as I did :)
One of my favorites so far! I think the game has a great level of polish, for example with the creative way to start the game by shooting an arrow. The graphics are also very nice, and work well with the animations you added for grappling.
I also liked how you taught the player how to play with tips in the background, so I didn't have to explicitly go through a tutorial! Overall, a lot of fun. I spent far too long trying to get all stealth kills on Lvl 1. haha
I'm happy you enjoyed it! In the past game jams I've joined, I've had experience with my players skipping the instructions or the tutorial, so I thought just placing the tips in the game itself would be better :)
Yes, those stealth kills are pretty hard to get perfect in! After this game jam is over, I'll try to put an online leaderboard so people could fight for the best time, best stealth kill percentage, and more :)
I enjoyed the graphics and how the controls worked. One thing that happened and I don't know if this is expected: after some time navigating with the grappling hook I surpassed the last land and came into a infinity amount of water of background. I tried to come back but apparently I got too far or there was some kind of bug that I couldn't find land again.
Other than that, very polished on the graphics and control. Good job!
Thanks for the feedback! I ended the land on purpose since that was the end of the level. After a certain point in the level it's all water. Ideally, you should've killed all the enemies before reaching that point though.
I guess I should put a wall there to stop people from heading too far into that area. Thanks for telling me! :)
One thing I forgot to mention is that actually the controls are well polished that I enjoyed just swinging on the trees. :)
Oh okay! Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I'll probably just add text that says when the player is heading too far then. That way, people can still swing if they want to :)
Fun game, I would loved to have air control. The game is very dynamic and stylidh, bu Iit is very frustrating slowly converging to a fire after a long jump without being able to do anything about it ;)
Noted! Thanks for the feedback. It seems I forgot to edit the code that would add the air control after grappling, and so it only worked when jumping. I added a quick fix in v1.1 to change that :)
very good game, you got a lot done, well done.
really liked the grapple and the enemy thought bubbles.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :D
Tons of fun! Love the theme and the mechanic being multi-purpose. The controls feel very good when pushing forward, but having to turn around and finesse around enemies can be challenging. Also, the lack of air control means I sometimes just flung myself into an offscreen obstacle and there was nothing I could do about it. Overall very fun, would love to see this polished!
Thank you! By turning around, do you mean the attack facing the mouse cursor? Or is it something else? I'm planning to make that a toggle-able option since I know players who prefer one or the other.
Noted on the air control! I planned to put that in, but it seems I only added it during jumps and not right after a grapple. Thanks for telling me!
Love this! The movement and controls are super smooth and the grappling mechanic is really cool. I also love that you can kill enemies with the grapple, it looks stylish as hell. Great job!
Thanks! Style points are important when on a killing spree :D
Very lovely game. Mostly smooth controls (liked the grapple, when I could figure out where to shoot it). Graphics were very nice. Music and effects were good too.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
Really fun! I love the arrow mechanic. However, please, PLEASE turn off the filtering in the sprites. It burns my eyes.
Noted! Thank you for your feedback. By the sprite filtering, do you mean the outline around the sprites? The outline width isn't that big, so I'm surprised it bothered you that much. Maybe it's showing up differently in yours in the HTML5 version?
Nope, I mean the "blurry" effect on the character sprites. You can fix it by reimporting them and turning the "filtering" option off. The sprites are pretty good by the way, I just can't stand blurry pixel art.
Ohhh. OMG, I can't believe I forgot to do that :( it's the thing I keep forgetting every time :( thanks for reminding me!
