Great idea! I never would have finished without infinite lives, so I'm really glad that option was there. But I wish there was something in between the impossible difficulty and the ignoring constant death because I have infinite lives.

As someone else said, the screenshake is way too much when you die frequently. You need a seizure warning! And also an option to turn down (or decrease) screenshake.

Submitted

wow, you did a very nice job! especially for the feedbacks it gives to the player and the particles, which you used very well. i played for almost 30 minutes and i think it's a little bit too hard. by the way very good job :)

One small gripe that I had with the game was that I didn't have enough time to ready the tutorial text while also testing the mechanics. Maybe you could make it so that the text stays there until we dismiss it somehow. I'm personally very bad at bullet hells, but nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback.

The tutorial is one of the many things i would have spent more time on. But it was my first godot project and i lost a LOT of time figurine out how to do things. But i learned a lot of things and my next projects will benefit from it.

Submitted

I can certainly relate to that. It was my first Godot game too and it felt like I was spending more than half my time googling stuff. The next game is definitely gonna be better...except I'm sure I'm gonna broaden the scope and get myself into trouble! :)

As playing on a trackpad is pretty damn hard (and also I'm garbage at bullet hells), I switched to infinite lifes mode pretty soon, which then sent me to screenshake-valhalla while dying in a ceiling spike (this was awesome 😂).

I would have loved the movement to be a bit tighter (harder breaks when releasing the keys), I often crashed into the ceiling/botton when I felt I sholdn't have. But that was a minor issue (also might just be me).

I really liked the game nontheless. The changing colors gave a nice sense of progression through the game. Also the kickback made you think twice, if you really want to shoot now.

In the end I spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to defeat the boss, despite the title that should've let me realize much sooner 😂

Great experience! Would play again!

Forgot to add:

The sound was great as well. But in my opinion there should have been a soundeffect for shooting (which is the main mechanic of the game).

Developer(+1)

Screenshake Valhalla. It could have been the game's title 😂 You're right the controls needs some adjustments.

There is a sound effect for shooting but i admit it's barely noticable.

Thanks for your comments 😁

Nice, polished feel. I didn’t finish the game because of the difficulty, but I see in the comments there is an infinite life option so I’ll come back and try to get to the end (or lack thereof?)

Developer

Thanks a lot 😉

Waaaaaaay to hard. My screen fell of the wall because of too much shaking :-D But awesome music and awesome overall “feel” and polish. Invest some time in level design and build up difficulty gradually and this becomes a great game.

Developer

Yeah i may have added a LOT of screenshaking 😆

Thanks for your feedback

Loved the graphics for the game.

And your godot-head narrator was amazing :D

Very fun to play with very cool asthetics.

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. The aesthetics is rather simple but it works.

I really loved your game by the way

Wow! This game is so fun to play. Great audio, great effects and great gameplay experience.

Developer

Thanks. I'm glad you had fun playing it.

Good Job! I really liked the color pallet shifts between levels. I appreciate the  infinite life option, I was playing on a laptop so I definitely would have been unable to finish the game normally. The particle effects and glowing effects were nice too. If you don't mind me asking did you use Godot's 2D lighting for the glowing or is it a shader effect or something else? One small thing I wish was there was an option to skip dialogue, but then again the floating Godot head was great so idk.

Developer

Hey. Thanks a lot. For the glowing effect i just used the WorldEnvironnement node. There is no 2D lightning, i was afraid to make the game even more shinny.

I had a lot of fun even though the game is WAY to hard for me :D It looks great, however adding some contrast to dangerous areas would help a lot.

I couldn't even get past first level :) I played all the way through with inifinite lives and would love to play it legit instead, but the difficulty was too steep. Maybe if the shield would trigger automaticaly to give an extra life? Otherwise 1 shot death felt unfair against enemies that take so many shots.

But I enjoyed it and would love to see it worked on. There's a lot of potential here.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback. The auto shield trigger may be a good thing to add indeed.

I think the first level is the harderst one, even though you have all your abilities in this one.

Loved the minimalistic style and changing mechanics every level, it gives a fresh feeling. I liked the fast paced concept as I loved to play hexagon. At the end I died 14 times at first run, very nice game, good job.

Developer

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

First of, loved the idea of the Godot-robot head as an enemy narrator (fantastical adaptation and animation of it btw!). The tutorial being black and white and then the colourful gameplay had me by surprise! How did you manage that? Is there a filter for the tutorial?

Lot's of juice in this game: screen-shake, flashing enemies when hit (I assume an AnimationPlayer was used here?) the stationary-turret enemies had a nice touch with their guns telegraphing the shots.

I have a question: How did you pull the level design of? I mean, how did you craft it so that you die when you hit the wall-spikes? And what are the wall-spikes? StaticBody2D?

Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for this long and lovely comment. =)

For the color changing in all levels, it's very simple. Every "sprite" is made of one or multiple polygon2D nodes. I have a global script which contains a palette array, so that each polygon2D sets its color when it's instanciated.

For the ground and ceiling spikes, they're also polygon2D to which i added a script. When the ground/ceiling is instanciated, the script adds a rigidbody2D node as a child and a polygonShape2D (a simply copy of the polygon2D coordinates). The advantage is that i'm able to directly modify the shape of the background and then the collision shape is auto generated.

Wow! Thank you for a detailed response! I am still a beginner in Godot and in each of these game jams people always amaze me how they get creative and design their games.

I have to try out both things that you've explained, to try and understand them better! Thank you and have a great day!

I played this for over an hour, died 26 times, and ended up finishing it (despite the boss screaming about how it was impossible). I loved the soundtrack, the graphics where stellar in their simplicity, and the level design was unique and diverse. I would probably buy this for $5 if it had even more levels/expanded storyline. You should absolutely continue developing it and make it into a full app on the app store or publish it on steam perhaps. Its great!

Developer

That's a really nice feedback. Thank you.
I'm glad someone played this long :) How could you finish the game since it has no end? ^^

I might continue developing it, but not for now. This was fun to make but i spent a lot of time on this and i usually don't have much time for projects like this one.

Really well done for a first game.

The controls were smooth.

Overall, it was fun.

Developer

Thanks :)

smashed 3 keyboard already lol. nice game

Developer(+1)

Sorry for your keyboards :) I have to admit my finger hurt a lot when i played the "no brakes" level :p

Nice simple space shooter, tight controls and an awesome soundtrack. It's very hard though.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game. It sure is hard. I'm pretty bad at balancing difficulty. :p

Submitted

Nice little shooter.. i admit its too hard for me but liking the minimalist arts syle and sound track.

Developer

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the game :) Sorry for the difficulty :p
