Game Description
A 3D platformer where you play as the fragile Window Man. Avoid hard, rocky surfaces, and use soft clouds to find your way home.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The main character is a window and thus fragile. If you walk on hard surfaces you start to crack.

you reminded me of why platformers are so much fun, good job, it might need some tweaks with world enviroment and movement, but that's for next endevaours, congratulations

Developer

Thank you!

Really good feeling game. I was a little surprised to be able to walk through trees but I suppose it was intentional. The jumping between moving clouds was a bit difficult. It would really help if the clouds stop moving for a moment at the extreme points of the corresponding paths. Overall, a great entry.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I kept the collision boxes for the trees super simple (boxes) to make sure the game would perform well in the browser. There were some instances where I accidentally placed the models rather than the scenes, so some trees appeared without any collision shape. I thought I had removed all of them, but perhaps I missed some. Even with the ones with collision, if you jump you can go through them.

Totally agree about the cloud movement. I wish I had spent more time making them feel better!

Very good game, make me smile, I even share this one with some friends. Good 3D work, congrats!

Developer

Oh wow! Thank you for sharing it with friends! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Wow, great audio work! Nice submisson!

Developer

Thank you! I enjoyed writing music for the game, and it was fun messing with the settings of Chiptone to find cool sound effects. :)

Nice submission, it’s a really cool idea for a 3D platformer! The screen transition was very banjo-kazooie. Some improvements off the top of my head are making the tape more easily visible by changing the colour to something that stands out against the grass, and pausing the clouds movement when they reach their end points. Overall though, this is great and it’s impressive how much you got done! Nice job :)

Developer

Thank you so much. Banjo-Kazooie is a huge influence! Glad you spotted it. I got the impression it was a bit of an influence for your game as well (which was amazing!).

Yeah the tape really blended in too much with the ground. I was going for gold to kind of mimic gold coins, but I am sure I could have found some ways to make them pop more. Maybe I should have ditched directional shadow for a shadow directly under them. Color could have been tweaked too.

I totally agree on the platform feedback. I kind of locked myself into an implementation that didn't give me enough freedom to manipulate the speed. Adding a pause at the destinations would have really helped, and I wish I had thought of that!

Thanks for the great feedback! :)

It gave me Banjo & Kazooie vibes.  I liked installing myself in the window frame at the end of the level.  It did feel like my camera was rotating on it's own and I was fighting against that though.

Developer

The camera issue is so interesting. Other people have mentioned it, but I never saw it. Wish I knew what was going on. Were you on Chrome or a different browser? Did you have a controller plugged in at the time? The code only looks at the mouse event, so I'm not sure what could cause it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the end animation! Banjo Kazooie was actually a big inspiration. One of my favorite games!

I had no external controllers to my knowledge, unless it dislikes my tablet which had no pen near it.   I was running in Firefox.  Sadly Godot WebGL tends to introduce bugs in 3D games out of nowhere, which is why you probably aren't seeing it on your end.

I had fun collecting pointless yellow duck tapes, wished for clouds to not switch directions so rapidly and have a sin wave movement, overall a really nice game

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it out. I used an animation player for the clouds, and at one point I messed with the easing on the keyframes, but I wasn't able to spend a lot of time on them. There is a lot that could have been improved with the cloud platforms!

Loved it! The window character is great and everything looks nice.

This was a really fun one! The mechanics were neat and everything was very focused in concert with them. I especially appreciated the pacing.

Submitted(+1)

Good game, it was really fun to play, for some reason the character facing direction resets when you jump(it doesn't affect the gameplay so it's not a problem)

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I never got around to looking into that. Not sure why its happening. 😅

Very neat - nice game well done

Developer

Thank you!

The game was excellent, especially considering how much there is in such a short period of time - very impressive! Can I also say it's great to see a Mono version being used? Good stuff!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! I work with .NET full time so C# is the language I am most proficient at. I love working with Godot and C#. I have very high hopes for .NET 6 support. Debugging and profiling are the biggest pain points right now for me with Mono and Windows.

Submitted(+1)

It's good you don't get sick of it then! After 8 years or so of C# professionally, I found I couldn't do it for games also, just faced too much burn out, so picked up GDScript, but still love C# for my day job.

Really nice game and fun to play. I like the window character. The sounds are nice. Good level design.

Developer

Thank you!!

Works on my browser flawless and I am impressed. Great game and was not expecting to hear the phrase "hop trough that healing windows" today or ever :).

Developer(+1)

Haha! Thank you! I wasn't sure how to handle healing, and I thought jumping through a magic window would be kind of cute. Also a good excuse to reuse that glass shader. 😅

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive what you achieve in that time. The game seems very complete. I really liked the controls. Especially the pace.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the pace. I wanted to make a light and fun atmosphere.

Submitted(+1)

Very impressive how much content you've got, and how complete the game feels (3d, menus, cutscene animations, collectables, audio, etc.)!

Like others have commented, I found the controls quite difficult. To the point where I kept missing the jump in level 2 (I think the next cloud was either above me or to the side, but I couldn't find a reliable way to line it up).

I hope you continue this one because it's a great start on a full game, and like I said impressive for only a gamejam. :)

Developer

Thank you!! I agree the controls need the most work. Good controls really separate the good platformers from the rough ones. One feature I wish I had thought of was rendering a shadow directly under the character when jumping. I think a lot of 3D platformers do this to help players gauge the distance to a platform. I also think just improving the controls all around, and maybe maintaining some velocity from the platform you are on could have made jumping from cloud to cloud feel much better.

Thank you again for all the kind words!

Impressive to make a 3d platformer for a jam :) Cute visuals, really adorable how you actually get installed in the house at the end of each level.

I spent a decent chunk of time waiting for clouds to come back. One way to resolve that would be to make the clouds start moving once you jump on them rather than having them move constantly (Though it doesn't work for every situation)

There's also some kind of camera drift? It looks nice when you're idling but it slightly changes your direction while you're moving.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and the kind words!

I wanted to create some platforms like that, but never got around to it. It would have been nice if I could have controlled their speed better too.

I am not sure what is causing the camera drift. This is the first time I've used the SpringArm node, so its possible I messed something up. Since it can handle collisions, I think it gets a bit funky with all of the trees. Also there is one area in the 3rd level where it acts strange despite nothing being there to move it. I'll have to learn more about that node. When I play, I'm not seeing it drift when I take my hand off the mouse. Do you happen to have a controller connected?

Submitted(+1)

I had a controller connected but it looks like it still happens without it. When I'm playing the drift happens even when my hand is not on the mouse.

Developer

Interesting! Not sure what's the source then. I've just implemented _UnhandledInput on the SpringArm and if there is any mouse event I rotate based on the x and y from the mouse event. I'll be interested to see if anyone else brings it up.

Bruh there is so much good stuff to say about this.. First I was legitimately impressed on how well my potato ran this (and on a browser!). The music is really good, and I love the rising pitch when getting collectibles. Only thing I would tweak would be the controls, but then again that is the hardest thing to get perfect on 3d platformers. The end goal of window man is hilarious. Thank you for the game.

Developer(+1)

Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words. I am so glad it ran performantly on your box, and thank you so much for pointing that out. I worked hard to try and keep things as optimal as I could for the browser. I'd occasionally pull it up on a laptop with no GPU to make sure things were running smoothly!

I'm glad you enjoyed the collectibles and the end goal!

Totally agree about the control tweaking! I have so much respect for 3D platformers. Getting the animations, the movement, and the camera to behave are all really difficult challenges! I would have loved to have had time to improve the controls!

Submitted

This game is AWESOME i love it

Developer

Woah thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

you should turn this into a full game it’s really fun

I love the animation for completing a level. I think the moving platforms could've given you a little more time to jump on them. Is it a coincidence that Windowman walks at the same tempo as the music (at least on level 2)?

Developer

It is a total coincidence! I don't think I even noticed. I'll check it out. 😂I was just trying to go for music that was a bit calm and light. Thanks for mentioning the level completion animation! I was pretty pleased with it!

I wish I had more time to tweak the platforms. They all ran off essentially the same animation so I had a hard time trying to get them going the way I wanted to.  I was able to easily tweak the path they took, but wasn't really able to manipulate the speed.

Thanks for the kind words and checking out the game! :)
